I'm not a demo either...just a very loyal SU customer. My collection is mainly SU...I've weeded everything else out because it's duplicated in one of my many SU sets.

I'm not a demo either but I LOVE SU! I would love to be a demo but live in Utah and in my surrounding neighborhood there are 4 demos. Crazy, huh? So for now I'm just a very devoted, loyal SU customer!

I'm not a demo either. There are already two at my church. They have tried to recruit me. I am interested, but right now I can't. Thanks JulieHRR for the info you posted. It does make it sound a little more promising for the future.
One of my biggest issues is that I have 160 SU sets but 120 are retired. I guess you can say I'm a bit obsessive about SU stamps.

Default me either

I'm not a demo either - just a fellow stamping addict!

A former co-worker (and now friend) of mine got me started w/ SU! and has suggested a number of times that I become a demo just for the discount. Unfortunately, I know myself well enough that if I had that available, I'd spend more than I do now just because it's "on sale"!

I'm so glad there's scs that welcomes both demos and non-demos alike!

I am a hobby demo - I love SU products and when it got to the point of me spending way too much each month, I wanted the discount.
My suggestion to anyone who is on fence thinking discount vs. getting out there and hustling - if you are spending $300. every 3 months or close to it on SU orders you should take the plunge, since you will make your quarterly quota - believe me it isn't hard and so much fun to have so much at hand and for the discount.

Never thought about it like that before. I will give it more thought. It has crossed my mind before but I'm not good at selling stuff. I'm not sure if I spend $300 every three months. I will have to go back and look.

I am not a demo either. I do have 3 demos that I order from, and one of those is the other's downline. I am afraid that I'll take thier business, since the downline seems to be taking all her upline's biz!
nancy, we're both in Phx, we should get together to stamp!!

Thought I'd join in - just signed up for this site yesterday. BEAUTIFUL galleries and the people are SO friendly.

I'm not a demo, either. This may shock some of you out there, but I don't even own ONE SU product!!!
Don't send the hate mail just yet. I like the products but I didn't discover SU until a few years after I'd started buying stamps that I "needed".

I love lots of companies and can't imagine limiting myself to one, so I don't.

I can't imagine being organized enough to be a demo of any kind when you have a family. I can't even find a receipt from last week to return a pair of pants!!!
I'm glad some people can do it all. I just know I can't.

I'm a horrid sales person, but I'm a GREAT teacher!

If you can show someone how to make something, the stamps and accessories sell themselves. A customer stopped by my used rubber stamp sale last Sunday, and saw the retired Recipe Fun set in the box. She said she'd been contemplating getting it, but she knows I have my eye on the new one to replace RF ....she commented "I'm holding off buying this retired one, as I KNOW, once you show me what to do with the new one, I'll wish I had that one so I'm waiting until you demo the new one and then I'm getting it!"

OK, with a comment like that, I guess I better get it now--I have at least one sale already practically in the bag!

I consider myself a teacher first and foremost; I think that approach genuinely puts my "students"/customers at ease, and they feel much more comfortable about investing in those products. They also know they can call me any time with ANY questions they have re: stamping, scrapping, etc., regardless if it is SU! specific or not. On an interesting note, I often refer to my customers as my "students" ...

Do you feel comfortable teaching/sharing what you've made? If so, then see if examining it from that perspective helps you, as you sit on the fence! And, when folks purchase what they've learned to use from you, you are then a teacher with an income!

Default Demo

I'm not a Demo either, I LOVE the products and am a great customer (I'm in a hostess club) but hey, there have to be customers out there! Probably the biggest reason for me is that I use other products as well (CTMH) and don't want to have to give that up. But really most of my stuff is SU. I just REALLY like CTMH albums.

not a demo, but addicted to to SU and other companies supplies/accessories. I have thought about being a demo, but my area seems pretty saturated and I can only rely on my friends purchases for so long. I have TONS of ideas that I would love to use/share. I get frustrated b/c one of the demos I purchase from is not very good/creative (sloppy actually) but does a big business b/c she took over a client base for someone that was "retiring". I go to her workshops and think I can do that so much nicer and my friends (who are her friends too) agree! What to do!??!!

I just joined the site a couple of weeks ago and when I figure out this darn digital camera, I will upload some of my work.

I too would be interested in a swap that does not require total use of SU supplies. (I cant pass up a bargain and therefore have supplies from pretty much every co. out there!)

Thanks for reading my frustrated should I/sShouldn't I story!!!

Can someone who is a demo answer this? I hope this wasn't addressed earlier in this long thread...I apologize if it was. I'm not a demo but do spend lots of money on SU products. IF I were to sign up as a demo I would pay the fee for the demo starter kit but what if I don't make the $300 quota? Are there any penalties? Do I continue to get the demo discount? How does that all work?

If you love stamping as much as I do and spend about $100 per month, then it's to your advtange to become a SU demonstrator (discount demonstrator).

Discount Demonstrator is defined as : Likes the idea of buying stamps for personal use at a 20% discount and occasionally sells to neighbors, relatives, friends, etc

Top Reasons For Becoming a Stampin’ UP! ® Demonstrator

1. Never buying another stamp at full price again!

2. Attend the annual STAMPIN' UP!® Convention. Imagine...3500 + wild and crazy stampers all in one convention hall sharing ideas, learning new techniques and having a blast!

3. Opportunity to attend regional seminars and upline training meetings.

4. Receiving Stampin’ UP!’s® monthly newsletters packed full of stamping ideas, business tips, and valuable/fun information.

5. Access to exclusive Internet showcase, information, discussion board, and new ideas for demonstrators.

6. Knowing you are with a strong Family center company with a niche of its own.

7. A friendly and awesomely supportive help system to answer any questions you may have as a demonstrator to help make things go smoothly for you!

I initially joined as a discount demonstrtor because I wanted to get my stamping supplies at a discount. I think I will take this to the next level and try to make some money. I love teaching/sharing my love of stamping and will start to offer either stamp days at my home or teach classes/hold workshops.

I took this straight from the demonstrator manual (minus the typing errors, )

To remain on active status, demo's must have quarterly net sales of at $300. This min requirement can be met all in one month submitting a single order for $300 or by submitting a number of smaller orders over the three months that cumulatively total $300 or more.

If a demonstrator fails to meet the sales requirement in any given quarter, she will automaticaly be placed on pending status the first day of the next quarter. To return to active status, she has until the last business day of that month to cure the shortfall from the previous quarter by submitting orders totaling at least $400 in retail merchandise sales - the shortfall of up to $300 representing the sales requirement for the previous quarter plus at least $100 toward the current quarterly sales requirements.

Whew --- I cannot believe how long this thread is. JulieHRR thank you so much for giving insight into the demo aspect for the demo wannabe's. I'm leaning really far on the fence. Actually, my paperwork (I believe) will be mailed the first part of next week to SU. But, I won't make it an official announcement until the stamp is on the envelope. I have debated this decision for awhile. I always said "I'm content to be a good customer". But, with the low qtrly minimum I think I can do this. I'm not sure if it will ever be a business for me - but in the meantime I will be getting my stamps at a discount. I'm not sure if I will ever qualify for a free stamps - but I will have the opportunity to purchase new stamps before anyone else. Someone once said the $300 quarterly can be looked at this way -- spending $50 twice a month. I never broke it down that way.

Anyway, in answer to the original question -- I'm not a demo either. LOL

Can someone help me?

How do you delete the information after your name (upper left) when you post a reply. Mine says "cardstock collector". I don't remember entering that information and I can't find it on the profile screen so that I can delete it.

Thanks

You can't delete it, to my knowledge. It's entered automatically by the system--a fun way to mark the # of posts you've had here on SCS.

Altho, I suppose you could email the owner of the site--perhaps he knows a way to do this, without affecting everybody else's "status" (for lack of a better word)?

I just noticed that you live on Whidbey Island.

Our close friends live on Whidbey Island (Sandy Point Road) and my step-daughter also lives there (Rose Road).

Default Who here is not a demo?

Not a demo, just a loyal SU customer for lotsa years. I'm hooked on SU because of the quality and price, plus I've got TWO fantastic demonstrators to work with and learn from! Maybe someday...but right now, I'd rather just spend my spare time stamping!

So if you get a 20% discount, wouldn't you only have to spend $240 to = $300 in sales? Just wondering... and no I'm not a demo either. My aunt is. I may do it someday. Righ now I have 3 kids under 3 so it's just not happening! Plus I do like using non stampin up stuff too!

You must order $300 at regular retail price to receive that 20% discount.

Also, demo'rs are still expected to pay 10% S & H + sales tax according to their state/county requirements on demonstrator discount orders.

Wow, it surprises me too how many are not Demos. I thought for sure majority of you were.

I am not a demo, but contemplating it after the New Year. JulieHRR's information is pushing me further. My Demo & DH says I'd be stupid not to.

If you have your dh's full support, which is important should you decide to pursue it as a career eventually, I'd sign up!

My dh is very supportive--I don't know how I'd do it semi-career wise without that support! He celebrates when I have a great workshop, hauls my stuff to and from the car when I need it, helps set up tables, even cooks a surf & turf dinner for my downline when they come once a year for a retreat!!!!! He is also equally thrilled as I am when I'm lucky enough to get published!

Of course, the pay-off is $$$ towards family vacations that we otherwise could not afford with just his full-time position. This encourages him to support me because the whole family gets to benefit from my efforts!

And, when we first relocated here 4 years ago, he offered to float my entire year of sales, if I couldn't get things going again ... he knew how much it meant to me ....but, thankfully, I didn't need to take him up on that offer--not even close!

Hope that encourages you to take the plunge!
