Default Where to find flat marbles for magnets?

So I went to Michael's yesterday and found the bag of round magnets. They're about 3/4 of an inch, maybe a bit smaller. But the only flat-sided glass marbles they had were too small -- you could see the magnet, if you put a magnet and marble atop each other.

Maybe my store was out of the marbles, but ... how large are the marbles you guys use? These were in a plastic or mesh bag, and they just seemed a bit too small to me. Too small even for a decent stamped image.

Is there an online source for these?

Thanks!!!

Got my large and small at Michael's, Walmart, Dollar Tree. My large ones were irridescent - you just have to search! You just have to check the flat marbles in the bags too - they vary in size. I've used the small ones for tie tack pins and saw some great thumb tacks - use the brass head thumb tacks and use crystal effects or other bonding goo. You can use parts of images or small stamped images. The marble makes the image look bigger too. I play around - stamp the image and then find the larger of the small marbles and hold it over. Cut out image and blot 2 way glue or crystal effects and stick that to the bottom. Then use whatever pin or magnet medium you want. You might use those 3/4 round magnets for tiles and just buy magnet strip to cut down for your small marbles.

I've only found the smaller ones (1/2") at the local craft store, however the larger ones are online at www.magicscraps.com - hope that helps!

I had a hard time finding the larger ones too. My Michaels only had really small ones. My Walmart used to have them but not anymore. I finally found large ones at JoAnns. HTH

I found mine at the dollar store and at Joanne's. The ones I got at the dollar store were pretty nice size, like the size of a silver dollar and were clear.

Thanks! I don't have a Hobby Lobby near me, and our Joann's kind of ... well, isn't that great. When I first did Internet searches, I couldn't figure out what to call the darn things, so I didn't know what to look for!!

I did find an online source: www.save-on-crafts, I think it is. I looked on eBay (I really like eBay) but there wasn't anything much. I think I'm going to see how much it would be per-magnet at save-on-crafts, and buy them from there. They're sold by the pound, so I'd have to see how much it would cost to put these together.

I've been thinking about doing little magnet kits somehow -- 4-6 or so magnets in a theme, either a color scheme, or letters or something. One idea I had was a red and pink color scheme, using the letters XOXO ("hugs and kisses"). Or the same idea with LOVE, etc.

Thanks, everyone!

Hey, that's a great idea! I'll try Dollar Tree first -- the WORLD HEADQUARTERS of Dollar Tree is nearby (our local claim to fame, hahahaha), so of course the stores here should have what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Default just found them and they are near you

Heather,
I just came back from VA (I live in Elizabeth City NC) and finaly found the ones you are talking about at Garden Ridge by Greenbriar(between the Sams Club and Walmart). I have been looking for the large, clear ones, but have only been able to find the small clear or large irridencent. They are $1.88/bag. And just a hint, if you dont see them in the top bins, look at the bins by the floor, that is where I found mine.
HTH
