Where do you buy your hardware for cards?
I love all the new hardware that some of you are putting on your cards....
I know that SU has some now but I would like to find more in bulk of certain things.....
Thanks for your help!

I love the new stuff as well! I took a trip to the local hardware store and in the section with the hinges they had all sorts of neat things! I picked up small hinges, you can attach them with brads or eyelets, next to the hinges was the photo hanging hardware. I got a whole bunch of the d rings. They came in a package of 6 for 95 cents. I thought it was a pretty good deal! I used one of them in a card last week for vsn. Here it is if you aren't sure what a d ring is. http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1

I picked up some cute charms and toggles at Wal Mart in their sewing section today. Quite cheap too!

The "flag things" are called photo anchors. You should check out your local custom framing department. These are used on the back of frames to hold the pictures in.

I went to my local art supply store and bought tons of those types of things for a nickel apiece. No choice on color of course, but still...a nickel!
This doesn't change the fact, though, that I'm totally in lust with my SU Hodgepodge kit.....

Estate sales!
Hit the estate sales. Old folks never throw anything away! Their estate sales are a wealth of old hardware and sewing notions, trims, you name it. Even clothing-just take off the parts you like such as the buttons, zippers, trim.... You can find jars or old bit of hardware that grandpa has kept out in the shed it all already has a nice aged patina too! hehe. Also picture framing supply companies have great metal things that you put in the corners of frames to "dress them up" in an old style. they work great with vintage photos in scrapbooks. Estate sales also may have jars of matchbooks, old stamps, lold postcards, lots of ephemera cheap. It is fun to hunt.
Good luck
Vee

I love all the hardware that SU sells but I don't even get eyelets from them. I scrapbook every week. You can get eyelets for 2 or 3 bucks so I can't see myself buing eyelets for nearly 5 bucks, plus shipping and handling. I have caught very good embelishment sales at Joanns up to 50% off on certain weeks you have to subscribe to their paper to know when the sales are on. The hodgepodge kits are a great deal if you are paying full price at your local store but if you catch the store on a sale date then is not really fair.
Don't get me wrong I love SU quality but I rather spend my money on the inks, cardstock, stamps and other accesories. This is just my consumer opinion I hope that nobody id offended by this. If I do offend somebody I'm sorry.

Have to add this one fine point that when you look at the price of eyelets and brads at other places and SU yes SU are more expensive but you get WAY more, so in the long run they are not really more money just more at one time, same with the ribbon. I buy the new hodgepodge stuff individually at my local scrapbooking store, I don't think they are any cheaper but I can get just what I want I bought 8 ribbon buckles for 3.50 which seemed high to me but didn't see them at Micheals and all I want from the kit is the buckles so it was cheaper than 27 dollars.

Shelley-
I've been trying to talk myself out of wanting Hodgepodge Hardware too (so far - ain't workin') but I found these two sites that had some neat items, rather inexpensive:
http://www.cherrytreetoys.com
http://www.scrappiness.com/
I still love the finishes that SU is offering, and the card samples in the gallery look soooo beautiful done with the HH. (Still, my Miss Frugal alter-ego is wondering if I can mimic those finishes on the cheaper hardware!)

Nancy,
Those are both great sites! Have you actually ordered from them yet?
I know the SU kit is the best but I want to see if those are my "style" first and if so then I will use the SU stuff for my scrapbooks!!
Thanks again ladies!

Sorry for my tardy reply, Shelly, it's been a busy week. No, I haven't yet ordered from those sites, but I'll probably try them out. I wonder if you can get embossing powder to stick to those d-rings.

Hardware
Well I'm blessed with a Pack-rat Husband. He has saved all sorts of odds and ends for 20 years. So when I want or need something I go looking through his stuff in the basement. I look at it this way...He never miss it!
and if I want to get brave I can find some really cool odds and ends in HIS Gargage....His SPACE.....
So I don't buy my stuff I find it!

Not to mention the fact that all your colors will coordinate if you're using SU! inks, cardstock and designer papers. Also, people have posted many complaints about some brands of non-SU! eyelets that never set properly and the fronts always come out looking horrible. They may have been a little "cheaper", but if your project ends up ruined there really wasn't any money saved!
Shelley, have you tried Googling for online sources?
