I remember last year getting my first one on Dec 1st last year and I thought wow this seems early. I send mine out around Dec 6th or so if i have them ready.
I usually send them out the week after Thanksgiving, but as Turkey Day is so early this year, I'll wait until the next week this year. That's IF they are ready to go, but the down time of Thanksgiving weekend (I refuse to go out because of the crowds, LOL!) usually gives me a chance to get it done.
I think once Thanksgiving is over, the Christmas season has begun. Unless of course you're in retail, for whom the Christmas season begins July 1st. I usually mail mine the first week in December.

I send my Christmas cards out the 10th of December if they're ready.

I always make my C-mas cards in the summer and set them aside, The day after Thanksgiving while others are shopping and fighting the crowds I address and seal my C_mas cards and set aside. They go to the post office the second to third week of December

You mean you're supposed to have them DONE by December?
I usually am still working on mine up to a week before Christmas. I do over 100 cards, so it takes me along time. This year I'm making about 20 extra of each of the 4 cards at my 2 Christmas SAS. Those are going to be some of my Xmas cards this year! Brilliant, I say!
December is as busy for the postal service as the week before Christmas is for retailers, so if you want your cards to arrive before the 25th earlier is better. On principle, though, I won't mail anything before the 1st. The ONLY reason I show Christmas stuff to customers in November is so they'll have time to get their supplies in hand and make the cards.

I think anytime around December 1st is fine for sending your Christmas cards. That being said, I try not to stress out over mine and often don't send mine until the day or two after Christmas, I think people can enjoy them more if they are home from work! (And it relieves my stress of having to have them all done, but I do usually send out 140 cards!)

I always send them out the day after Thanksgiving--after Santa arrives in the Macys day parade that is the start of Christmas season. I am usually addressing them and getting them ready as I watch the Macys day parade
For domestic (US) locations, the USPS recommends sending Christmas cards no later than December 15th...at least that has been their guidelines for the past several years. For international locations, plan on 15 days...at least.
I'll usually get mine out by the 10th. I've not started them yet this year as I left my Christmas stamps at our winter home and we won't get there until November 2.
I try to send out my cards in the first week of December. However, it does depend of how organised I am!
For any of you based in the UK, here are the recommended last posting dates before Christmas 07 from the Royal Mail website:

1st Class to UK - Thursday 20 December.
International Airmail

USA, Canada, Japan and Eastern Europe - Monday 10 December.
I missed Christmas card sending one year and sent out Happy New Year cards in January. Seemed to be received well.
Christmas cards I would send by the 10th of December. Gives people time to enjoy them before Christmas Day.
My former father in law is a pastor, and he used to say that everyone else was sending out Advent cards, his family sent Christmas Cards, as they went out during the twelve days of Christmas (which is after Dec 25).
Wow, I can't believe how many of you send them out so early. Most of the time I send them out mid-month. Most of my cards that I receive tend to arrive between the 15th and the 20th. A couple don't arrive until the 22nd-23rd.
Gives people time to enjoy them before Christmas Day.
ICAM! We send our cards out to family as early in December as we can so they can have a physical reminder that we are thinking of them all through the month. We send any gifts to them separately from the family cards with either another card or just a tag attached to each gift. This year, I think if we receive any gifts in the mail before The Big Day, I will suggest to DH that we open the attached cards right away so we can admire them throughout the month.
(We are in Texas and all our family is in Canada, so we don't get to see any of them very often.)
