Default What's your favorite coloring technique for tiles??

I want to do some things on tiles as gifts. I've used StazOn to do the image and borrowed fabrico markers from my demo before but was wondering what else is out there that works! We heat set those. Does your technique require heat setting? Is it washable? Does it need to be sealed?
Thanks in advance!!

I made tiles at Christmas - I used StazOn for the outlines and colored the images in with my blender pen and pastels and watercolor pencils. I put two light coats of Krylon Matte on top and they look great!

People use the markers you mentioned and Sharpies to color so they don't have to use Krylon.

Good Luck - they turn out beautifully!

I've used Crystal Effects mixed with re-inkers to color in images stamped on tile - it gives the tile a neat glossy effect and doesn't require heat setting or any kind of sealant. Just use an old watercolor brush or some cheap ones from the dollar store to dip in the crystal effects/re-inker mixture. Have fun!

I have used plain old sharpies and then heat set in the oven - after that the image is not budging unless you use some type of heavy duty solvent and even then it will only fade the image. Belive me one of my daughters scribbled all over a bunch and I have tried even "normal" household cleaner to see if anything would budge - nope....

I never would have thought of using my Crystal Effects (I love that stuff!) for painting. I think the Sharpie markers are on sale right now too. May have to try all these cause I already have the chalks! Thanks so much ladies!

The crystal effects idea sounds cool. Do I seal them just in case? If I use the pastels or watercolor pencils with blender pens then do I heat seal them before the acrilic spray? after the acrilic spray? not at all? I plan to do tiles in April at a stamp camp and I'm trying to gather all the instruction info I can before then. Thanks.

Here's what I did and they came out perfectly:

1. Stamp with Staze-On
2. Color with pastels
3. Spray with Patricia Nimrock Acrylic Matte Sealer (2 coats)

No heat setting and the chalk is not coming off! I ran the tiles under water just to be sure!
