Default What's your favorite black ink?

What's your favorite black ink? I'm looking for something that gives great coverage, crisp lines and doesn't run if I color with Copics or watercolors. I've used Ranger's Archival Ink, Palette Noir, Versafine Onyx Black...what do you like to use?

Don't know about the Copics, don't have them. Favourite black depends on what I want to do with it. Most favourite all purpose would be Versafine Onyx Black, then Memento Tuxedo Black. Archival would be next, followed by Staz-on.
It all really depends on what I am working with, and what I want to do with it.

Check JenniferMcQuireink.com on her My Favorite Things section for inks. She compares lots of ink.

I'm not sure if there is something that you CAN use with both copics and watercolors. Copics are alcohol based, so you need a water based ink. With watercolors, you need a NON water based ink. I know some people like the versafine (which I think has an oil base?) but that always smears for me when I use copics.

I love using the Versafine Onyx because it stamps so well. I've learned to color carefully with my markers, and try to stay just inside or at the line, which minimizes smearing with this ink.

I got some Memento Tuxedo Black to use with markers, but thought it was not really black enough, so I went back to my Versafine.

Shaz said it exactly for me. I just got some Noir pens so I guess I will find out about with alcohol inks.

But the Versafine is my fav by far because it is so wonderful for picking up fine detail.

I learned what paper you use also matters for ink performance. What paper do you tend to use?

Forgot to add this to my post last night- I blame the meds, not old age, lol. I did this comparison of a few black inks on my blog a while ago. Mainly because I was trying out a new brand of black inkpad which was supposed to be the bees knees for clear stamps. A few weeks later, I noticed the site I bought it from had it in their 'discontinued' sale, so whether that means they themselves just weren't stocking it anymore, or it was actually discontinued, I don't know. However, I did use half a dozen black inkpads, with both a line detail stamp, and a solid one, so there is a good comparison.

For copics I tried all of the black inks and only Memento held, all the others ran some.

Thanks for all the input, everyone! I guess black inks are like black shoes/heels -- every one's different!

Truth!

Once you've determined whether you're using it for alcohol marker coloring, or for water color techniques ... remember that the card stock used will also have a significant impact in some cases. Play around with the C/S that you have & note the preferred results during a little "play time" done solely for the purpose of noting the results. As with everything else, something that Susie Stamper swears by, might not be the thing that speaks out loud to 'you'. ;)

For card bases, I generally use 100# cardstock -- I have plenty of that, so I think a little "play time" might be in order this weekend!

I'm loving my new Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black. If you heat set it, it will hold for both watercoloring and Copic coloring. I mainly do the latter. Love, love, love this ink since it's so much darker than the regular Memento dye ink in Tuxedo Black. However, it's a thick ink, so you need to be careful not to use a pad that's too juicy or it will glop up the stamp. Nevertheless, the ink is worth a try for anyone who craves a deep, opaque black (or another deep opaque ink, since it comes in some awesome dark colors, like Elderberry, rich cocoa, and northern pine). Bye the way, I'm not a Tsukineko employee or recipient of any give-aways (I wish); just an enthusiastic stamper who's fallen in love with this ink!
