French Script BG is a winner and Blooming Happiness (Hostess set) and Sincere Salutions and Garden Collage. Good luck.

- Petal Prints (retiring end of June) - Great for so many different techniques (watercoloring, 2 step stamping, emboss resist, poppin pastels, etc.) and very versatile
- Lovely As a Tree (retiring end of June) - very versatile for every season, masculine cards, sympathy cards
- Linen background - adds a little subtle oomph to your card

I love the Floral background stamp...that stamp is just so gorgeous and really makes a beautiful background for a feminine card. My other favorite set is Heartfelt Thanks...it's just so lovely.

You can't go wrong with Lovely as a Tree. I don't think it is retiring, though if I am wrong, please let me know. I love Linen BG, French Script BG, and Weathered BG, along with Itty Bitty Backgrounds (not retiring, either).

Welcome to the stamping world, and prepare yourself for a very thin wallet!

I think what you choose depends on what you like, the type projects you do, and to whom they are for.
Ditto, maybe it's an OHIO thing. I also use French Script and Canvas background stamps alot. But at least one background and you will be amazed how your cards turn out.

Ask 100,000 women what their favorite stamp set is and you will get 100,000 different answers. LOL. My favorite stamp set changes each week. One of my favorite sets is Mixed Bouquet. It's a very versatile floral set and very easy to use! Check out the huge gallery for it here on SCS. It is retiring at the end of June too. So many of our favorites are. But there will be new favorites come July 1!

The ones I still seem to grab are A Greeting for All Reasons, which is retiring, and Itty Bitty Backgrounds. I think Greeting is a very versatile set if you don't have many. Itty Bitty does a great job of filling empty spaces when your card need "something".

l love all my sets! If I had to pick just two that are still available (I think), though, it would be Doodle Alphabet and Mon Ami.

I don't have an absolute favorite but I am a sucker for flower stamps (more realistic) and vintage stamps. I think 2-step stamping stuff is really fun for beginners. I really like 2-step because it is really quick to stamp and easy too. If you're doing a lot of something it is much easier to do the 2-step than to have to color in detail images. I go through phases where I really like my 2-step stamps and then I stay away from them for a while.

Both of my favorite SU stamp sets retired this year: In Full Bloom and Petal Prints. Hope there is something similar to these sets in the new catty. My next favorite set would be Lovely As A Tree.

It's so hard to advise new stampers because we all have such different styles, as you can see just by the posts to this thread! That's why I really like SU... they seem to have something for *everyone*. My style is more contemporary but still feminine. Doesn't make a ton of sense, I know.

I love Simply Said and the wheels that go with them, Linen BG, Canvas BG, Print BG. I'm also all about circle/square punches. Makes life *so* much easier. I don't have the round tab punch yet, but I've already thought of a million things to do with this, so I'll own it soon!

btw... don't like Roses in Winter, either.

Currently it's Doodle This, but my favorite never stays the same for too long. But right now about 80% of my cards are Doodle This.

Note I exclusively incorporate stamping into scrapping (vs cardmaking, stamp art, etc.) & my favorite & most used SU! sets are It's a Date, Simple Shapes, & So Very (SAB 2007). HTH & happy stamping!

This is a bit of a hijack. Sorry. But I was in Gloria Jeans Coffee yesterday, and they have coffee mugs and accessories with a black cat on them, just like Cool Cat. So if you are a Cool Cat lover, and a coffee lover....!!

My favorite sets change all the time, but here are some of my thoughts.

I think that Unfrogettable and Loads of Love are great sets for stamping scenes and the two of them cover all kinds of events (birthdays, christmas, thinking of you, moving, friendship)

For flower sets I really like Heartfelt Thanks, Mixed Bouquet and Roses In Winter. First of all I think they are beautiful. But secondly, I think you can't go wrong with these as a beginner. It's two step stamping so things don't have to line up perfectly. When used with good color combos, they always come out looking good because the stamps are so pretty in and of themselves.

Background stamps are another great investment. You can create your own patterned papers with these and you can also use these for texture and embellishment on your projects. My most used background stamps include French Script, Linen and Weathered. I also really like Floral, Paisley and the Flannel one.

Wheels are also a good way to create patterned papers and texture. But these easily turn into an investment when you start buying the ink cartridges for the wheels. So maybe hold off until you are more of an intermediate stamper and sure this will be a hobbie that sticks. Heee Hee heee.

Hope that helps.

I know a lot of people are tired of it, but I just got Looks Like Spring after a tear of pining over it. I live this set. It matches so many other's, SU and non-SU. Also, I just adore Doodle This and Doodle That and In Full Bloom.

That's supposed to be "LOVE" this set, not LIVE it. Sheesh.

A really good way to tell which sets are most loved is by looking in the gallery and seeing which sets have tons of pictures. I've noticed that the more people love a set the more cards there are! My favorite set is Treat Yourself!
