Could you share some more about the wine caddies? What brand are they? That sounds like fun for a few traditional wine gifts I give.

Thanks so much! that is really cute. Will be adding that to my stash of used Christmas card ideas!

Cat, I just like the little monkeys you can make. I'm not too fond of the SU sock monkey set. I think I'll make cards to go with the monkeys with one of my Changito monkey stamps. I think Changito is more appealing.

OK, I found my go to gift:

Book Thongs (check out Etsy for ideas and I have a family of READERS)...PERFECT!

Another idea:

Take Out Menu Binder
You'll need a 3 ring binder with clear sleeved fronts
Index Pages
Sheet Protectors

Decorate the binder as you like
Make index pages that say; American, Italian, Mexican, etc...
Put sheeet protectors between the index pages so your recipient may slip their take out menus in...

HTH someone!

Buy Forever Stamps to go with all of the cards you are giving as gifts!!!

1. I'm decorating wine bottles by taking off the labels and putting on handmade winter labels, matching tags, ribbons and white lights inside the bottle. This summer I gave away one of my decorated wine bottles as one of my stampin up hostess gifts. I did that one red, white and blue for the 4th of July with red ribbon and stars. They are quick and easy. I'll try to get one posted on my web site next week.

For my scrapbooking friends I make packages of die cuts using the Big Shot machine. I cut out chipboard letters for them that they can stamp on or use with designer paper. Sometimes I put vintage rick rack in, ribbons and lace. But a word of warning: once they get their packages they want more every year!! LOL!

My family stopped exchanging gifts a few years ago, but I still give out cookie/cupcake tins every year. They are a huge hit. They seem to get bigger every year too. Hmmm...

I love all of the ideas you have all shared. Thank you!

I ordered this set too, and I'm in the same situation. I have no ideas for colors to go with it, but I love the set! Let us know what you come up with.

I know I will be making the ornaments that were popular last year that are made with the tag punches. I think they will look great in the new Pacific Point color!

Here is how I make mine:
* I measure fishing line the average length of the book you want to thong
*I then use a base metal crimp(found at Hobby Lobby)and crimp(when I say crimp, I mean put crimp on fishing line, then put charm on and run line back through crimp and smoosh it with whatever tool I can,I don't do fancy crimping like when making bracelets) a charm(also found at Hobby Lobby)at one end.
*Then I use what ever beads I want for the first couple of inches
* Next I use seed beeds(tiny ones)to run length of line because this will be what is actually in the book so you don't want to use large ones or the book won't close
*Lastly add couple more inches of beads and charm and crimp as on first end.
* When finished the end ones should hang on either side of book and mark your place.

I hope that this is somewhat clear. I may try and post some of mine later. PM me if you need more explanation.

HTH Denise

I'd never heard of book thongs until I read this thread. Here is a site I found that sells them. From the pictures, they look like beads strung on wire with little fancy things on each end. Very cute, and don't look hard to duplicate at all!

I make mine with cord or string and pretty much the same as above. Crimp beads on ends and decorate with beads on each end.

I made 5 bookthongs last night...and that was beading the entire length of the string. I'm going to do some less elaborate ones, but they really are EASY to make!

My sister just posted a swap to make calendar pages for an 8 x 8 calendar. You buy a blank calendar (they have them at Archivers for sure, and I think Michaels carries them too...tons of companies have them online!), and then put the pages in for each month, top with your pictures...and you have a Christmas gift! I signed up for a spot and I think I'm going to give it to my grandma. I give her a calendar every year, but something with a twist might be fun! Here's a link for the swap:

I'd never heard of book thongs before, but they caught my interest, because I just LOVE to read. So after reading about them here I searched a bit and found this blog with them http://www.yarntomato.com/blog/ which looks quite interesting.
I'll probably make some of these with my dds. Sounds like something they might like to give to their friends too.

There is another thread here somewhere that gives poems to go along with the book thongs. I gotta find it though.

I mades cards and hot chocolate "cones" last year for my Bunko group and everyone loved the cones but really raved about the cards I made. So this year I am making them (12 ladies in total) each a set of Christams cards. I make a set of at least 12 cards every month so that come November they will have a good set of handmade Christmas cards. I am putting them in an altered tin.

For the past couple of years our local Childrens Hospital has a Radio-thon in November. So we make a 4 different donations to the hospital on behalf of my Mom, Dad, and Grandmother, and one for our family. I add a thank you note from the hospital to thier Christmas card. I think this year I will make the book thongs that everyone is talking about. My parents and Grandmother are all BIG readers.

As for all the others on my list I have no idea yet. Keep the great ideas coming!

~just as an aside~

I LOVE the idea of making a donation. It is nice to know that the hospital is there just in case heaven forbid we might need it and with 4 kids the odds are at one time or another we might need to use the hospital. Infact we already have need them twice once with our oldest who broke her arm at the age of 18months. And then again with our youngest, the day after he came home from the hospital he had trouble breathing so we rushed to the hospital to make sure everything was okay and as you can see from my photo in my name box he is just fine!! For family that may not "need" anything or don't really want another dust collector this is something that keeps giving.
For us it is the hospital but it could be anything that your family members are into. Just some food for thought.

HTH Denise
I would LOVE to see photos! This sounds like something I could do.

I also liked the crochet-version in the other link that someone posted. I don't know how to crochet though. I tell ya, I'd definitely be buying those if I saw them at a craft show! I think my nieces would love them! (I think... although I'm not sure if they read anything that isn't assigned.)
