I am thinking a few things...

For my SIL and niece I purchased the 3 clipboard from SU when it was on sale... I'll alter that and create the Jan page and the 3 of use will split the remaining months and create the calendar for the rest of the year.

for a bunch of my friends I am going to create a domino serving try with holiday images.

I just decided that since I have several nieces & nephews under the age of 3, I am going to make them all personalized Alphabet books. My thought was to gather pictures of the families and scrapbook each letter on a page (or two) such as: D is for Daddy, G is for Grandma and Grandpa, etc.

I'd like to laminate the pages so they can take them anywhere, play with them without their moms worrying they might ruin them.

anniesmom -- you said "I would actually like to make some type of ornament this year. WIll have to keep watching this thread for ideas." (I haven't figured out how to "quote" yet)

Last year my DD and I made ornaments using a couple of checkers sandwiched between scalloped circle punches -- like the peppermint patty candies that were showing on a lot of the blogs but with the checkers instead of the candy so they would last. You could use any small round solid item. We glued two checkers together, then using the three sizes of the Marvy scalloped punches, we layered a solid, then a print, then a stamped image of the Holy Family on one side and "Merry Christmas 2007" on the other. We tied a ribbon around the edge of the checkers, then tied the ends together to make a hanging loop. We added lots of stickles to the image to make it catch the light on the tree. They were really easy to mass produce and came out quite cute (IMHO).

I'm going to make perpetual birthday calendars and use my Bind It All to bind the top.

I made a really easy file in Publisher that can be printed out and then just cut down the center (at 4.25"). I've attached the PDF version.

Here's a link to the Publisher version:

Attached Files
File Type: pdf perpetual birthday calendar.pdf (30.3 KB, 1128 views)

Thanks for the calendar. It's really nice that you just have to cut down the middle! I think I'll put these on my list this year to make. I haven't done any of the birthday calendars in the past.

I just started thinking about this the other day...

I'm doing some card sets for family. Some with various themed cards, others just notecards with similar stamps/colors. I want to include perpetual calendars with card sets, but nothing big, just some sort of folded card.

I'm also planning a lot of homemade food type items, so I will need to make tags and labels for that stuff.

Also minature coaster frames. There will be some new babies arriving right before xmas, so i figure people will get use out of mini-frames for those wallet sized pics. I may even make them hanging ones in case they want to use them on the tree.

First I have a lot to make for the arrival of my new niece/nephew in December, so I have to get moving!!

Keep the ideas coming...

For some family members I am making a calendar with birthdays filled in and a greeting card organizer filled with various cards. I am trying to find a templete to make this into a book that I can use to seperate the cards: birthday, get well etc. If I can't find what I am looking for, they will just be folders. I have a couple of older women in my life that are like adopted grandmas and they will be getting the greeting card folders filled with cards and their envelopes will have the postage stamps added. That's all I have planned so far!

This is an awesome thread from last year. Tons of ideas, recipes, etc.

I'm wanting to make birthday books with my BIA, jewelry sets, sew some stuffed animals for the little ones, card sets for my grandmas, and I'm not sure what else. Frankly, I'll be doing great to get that much done. The baby just learned to crawl and he's all over the place!

Default Great idea

Gina,
I really like your idea! I was planning on making cards for several of the women in my family, I think will try to incorporate the calendar idea with some blank spots for them to add people.

sounds like a really neat project! i'm guessing you don't have pictures? but, your notes are really instructive... i might have the perfect stamp! these might make neat gift package tags too [i love dual-purpose stuff].

on the lower right hand corner of the post [not the thread] should be a button that says 'quote'. click on that and it will automatically quote that post. be careful to type before or after the auto-text, or you'll mess up the quote part. you can also use the html code of ["quote=SCS user name] and ["/quote] (minus the " mark) at the beginning and end of the text. hth

Since my MIL always remembers her neighbors' birthday and those of the neighbors' kids but can't remember mine, I'm making her a birthday calendar.

Default Something a little different

My MIL is a social worker and really loves to give to other people... so she is getting a box of cards to give away AND I think I have come up with her other gift (I am very proud of this idea, I think she'll love it!) I am going to get and AngleTree child and color copy the info card. Then I am going to buy the things for the child and take pictures of them and me wrapping the presents and taking it all back to mall and make her just a little book of those pictures, scrapbook style. I am very excited to do it!!! I always love doing angeltree anyways, this just makes it EVEN more fun!

Kimberly,
Adding my thanks for the perpetual calendar!! This will be perfect for adding to the cards and then each person can write any additional birthdays for their personal use!! This is getting me excited to start on Christmas gifts!!

Also, wanted to add something I made for dh grandmother quite a few years back. She loved to wear scarves, so I used some quilted material and covered a regular metal clothes hanger. You stitch the bottom closed last, but put matching ribbon loops along the bottom, then when it is stitched close, the loops hold the scarves. This would also work for friends who share your hobby and (might) have a ribbon collection as well. I found a pattern somewhere, but even without it, it would not be difficult to do.

AngleTree is what our community does where they taske the names and christmas wishes of local children whose families will not not be able to provide them with christmas (for whatever reason) and you go to the mall, pick one out, shop, wrap it, and drop it back off and they deliver it. I go thru our church when I do it because I don't like the mall!

a gift my kid's teachers really enjoyed in the past was gift tags. I got together with friends in July and we made several. Several teachers would ask for more! Most had stickles on them so they really sparkled and looked so pretty packaged together. This past yr. I used my friend's Sizzix and cut tags from Christmas cards I received. That was easy and "green".

Love this idea and the idea of using them as a gift tag. I make a snack mix every year and am always trying to find a clever way to tag the bags. This will work great! I saw a bunch of games at the thrift store last weekend so maybe I can find a checker game.

So far, I've planned to make a matching game that will hopefully go in an Altoids tin for some of the under 4 year old gifts I need. I figure their moms can pop them in their bags and have something to play with in a restaurant or whatever. I also found a cute notecard idea that will be good for my two 13-14yo gift recipients so I think I'll be making a set of 6 cards for each of them. I have some odd colored DCWV precut cards that I am hoping I can coordinate up with some patterned paper scraps. Would be good to work my way through the motherlode of scraps that live at my house.

I like the idea of making tags from Christmas Cards. Any other ideas using old Christmas Cards? I have a TON.

Both my DH and my grandmothers are 88 so it is hard to buy them gifts. Last year they each got a quilt so this year I am making a throw pillow to coordinate with the quilt. I am also making them each a set of cards that they will be able to send out instead of having to go out and buy cards.

I have 3 quilts I need to get down for Christmas - one for my Step-daughter, one for DH and one is actually a birthday gift but the birthday is the week after Christmas.

I have started on my Christmas cards but need to get those finished and need to start on the tags for the presents.

I bought a bunch of the White Chipboard Wine 'caddies' from Archivers (3.50 I think), so I will have these ready and waiting!! I am also going to make recipe books, photo cubes, picture frames and who know what else.
