What do you wish you'd thought of when designing your stamp room?
Lucky me, I get to move into a bigger room that's been totally cleaned out and new floor put down. I'm trying to think of things I'd want in there and so far it's more table space and those wire cubes from Target. There will be a bathroom right next to the stamp room so I'll have access to clean my stamps and get water for cleaning my watercolor brushes. (I used to have to go all the way upstairs for that!) Anything else?
(I've already checked out the stamp room gallery here and took lots of notes.)
I like the idea of a peg board. I have one and they hold so much of the stuff that I like to keep handy. Like my sissors. I was always looking for them, now I put them back on the peg board each time after use.

I allowed storage for what I owned but neglected to leave enough for "future purchases" ;) I quickly outgrew my stamp racks, had DH build me drawers to hold the overflow and now I'm converting to unmounted so I can keep shopping ;)
I have "areas" but again I wish I left room to expand the "areas"... LOL (like a cart for paper has now become a cart, wire cubes and a cabinet for paper...) so I am robbing Peter to pay Paul to fit it all :(
Iwould have liked a closet or two for things that I don't want my cat's to get into.
It would have been nice to have been able to repaint the walls a sunny yellow. redo the floors.
More space. a door on my stamp room.
Not having to share the space with Dh work area....I would have like to have a whole area that was just mine.
I have a pretty cool area now....It's just the cats like to free roam my area...and like to walk in and on my stuff.....to get to the little basement windows. To see the outside
My craft room in a little area in my basement. I am planning on putting up draywall and make faux windows with daylight lamps behind them, so I don't feel like I am in a dark basement and so the lighting is good.
I would love to have nice cabinets like Jen has. (Jen, I am so jealous!) I am just afraid to take the last bedroom and totally convert to a hobby room. I should just give in and forget ever having to sell.

we just bought our house and my husband is fixing the garage for me he removed the garage door and installed french doors carpeted the floor and covered the walls i wasnt so sure i wanted one whole wall of peg board but he thought id need it he is also installing two five foot bases with countertops and another 6 foot counter top as soon as i pick out the bases for it i have a four drawer file cabinet and a lot of stuff to organize whenits done because not only stamping but painting, soapmaking and sewing and afew craft things go in there i think im going to need more room i also get the computer and a tvw/ cable if i can find the room! im so excited but it is the last room to unpack! boohoo! im getting impatient! lori
A Nanny to keep my kids out of my hair when I'm in a creative frenzy.
I don't have a room, just a really cool, long desk in my living room. It has been good since the kids can play while I stamp, but my storage is WAY limited. I have to carefully assess all purchases for room.

Yes, I'm about to face the same problem with the cats. That's the only downside to this whole project. I'm hoping it will make me be more neat...ha!
First off, my ideal stamp room would be a barn. Not a small, chicken-coop sized barn, either. I'm talking full-sized-hay-loft-milk-the-cows-sized barn. That way, I wouldn't have to clean up after myself. I could just go set up a new table and create a new mess in a new area. Heck, I could even color code different areas, or even do it by color family! I make DH play Lotto every Friday just to keep my dream alive. Heck, he's so sick of rubber that it's actually become his dream, too.
That said....
- My current cramped quarters are in desperate need of better, more reliable lighting.
- A carpet-free zone where I could spill my ink would be great, too (don't ask.)
- A lock on the checkbook might be a good idea.
- A mini fridge, both to keep cool water handy and to zip-chill EP for cracked glass.
- My own personal remote superglued to the table -- as opposed to my husband's left hand where the up and down buttons are being worn out from overuse.
- Some form of easy-to-follow workout that I can post on my wall that I can do while sitting on my bottom and stamping.
Is this heaven? No...it's another world-according-to-Kaylyn moment. ~ K

Hmm....haven't thought about a maid.....and a stampin' barn sounds pretty good, too! Maybe I should start rethinking my room?
So far, I've really enjoyed my wire cubes, pegboard and over-the-door shoe racks, for both function and price! ;)
I don't have a spectrum light, but I bought one of those long-last fluorescent bulbs for my desk lamps, and nice, bright light really makes a difference!
My latest addition was a special treat - I have no cable outlet in my room, and sweet dh got me a portable DVD player so that I can watch chick flicks while I stamp. (And I really haven't been out of my room since!) If you're one of those stampers (like me!) who needs background noise while she stamps, definitely make room for a TV or radio to keep you company!
What a great question!! I think I'm going to borrow it and ask on a few other boards I belong to. My "craft" room is still in the planning stage and I'm scared that I'm not going to be happy with my design. I've looked at 100s of rooms, searching for the perfect one.
I know that I want my computer in my room. I hate running from my bedroom to my computer for journaling/casing/whatever. I want my computer easily accessible. I think I'd also enjoy a TV but I don't see paying for another DISH box. I may go with the portable DVD player though. I also want to have sitting and standing workspace. I work both ways depending on my mood.
I stamp in the basement now. I have a large area but I hate the basement. Our addition is almost complete and we have a laundry closet. Laundry was suppose to come upstairs. Not anymore, I want the closet for my stamping area. I think I will stamp more if I am upstairs with the family. only question is, how the h.....double hockey sticks am I going to get everything into that closet?
I do have a few things in my room that I LOVE.....
~a mini stereo (can't give up too much storage space) LOL
~A TV....with a remote-I like the idea to superglue it, mine keeps disappearing too...I tried velcro but the kids just peel it off :(
~A well stocked mini fridge
~a bar sized sink-no need to go "next door" to the bathroom ;)
~a sofa and chair so i can stretch out and peruse magazines when I'm stumped or need a break
~Pergo flooring so I can quickly sweep up the stuff that mysteriously falls there ;)
DH teases me and says if I had a micro they'd never see me!!!
if you are still in the design phase. This was a great source for all sorts of ergonomics, light, storage space, etc. for a sewing room. But that easily transfers to stamping if you think about. Correct sitting height, cutting height (if you stand), thread storage, think wheels and pads. Fabric=paper and basically a lot of the same tools. We used this when we remodeled our garage for my quilt studio and it turned out great. I can no longer quilt, but find my stamping stuff fits right in.

I worried about the ink on the carpet too. I went to Sam's Club and bought 2 boxes of cheap pergo-like flooring and covered the section between my stamping tables. Works like a charm and it only cost around $50.
For someone with limited space like me... I have about half the room of our office (built as a tiny bedroom) and use that closet for most of my stamp stuff but things are overflowing! Anyway, what I think may be helpful is to put up some shelves on the wall so you won't have to use up as much table space when you want to put things up. I put my Xyrons & baskets of stuff on those shelves. A little corner shelf would be cute too.

I use a Linen's and Things Kitchen cart/breakfast bar with stainless top- it is on wheels in my dining room and i can roll it to see my living room t.v., and push it where i need it to be...no closet in my dining room so the cupboards are great for stashing stuff. I stamp standing most of the time so it works great. I added legal size wall pockets from staples to hold things like templates and tools on the sides..
I wish I had thought through my paper storage better. I simply didn't allow enough space for all of the paper. I'm a wacko that can't put "reds" together. I also have to separate each pattern of designer series asst. packs. Every single shade/pattern has it's own hanging file, divided by color, then family, then SU/non-SU, then we get into the other "flat" stuff . . . vellums, tag sheets, acetate, polyshrink, mulberry. I just can't have any co-mingling of Card Stock & accessories -- I believe it's in the Paper Crafting Constitution somewhere -- go check!
Second thing -- better light! Copious amounts of bright cheery light. It's hard to stay up stamping all night wen the room reminds me too much of my bedroom.
Third thing -- shelving with re-positionable/versatile shelves. Mine are "pretty", but I can't adjust them -- a hassle when I'm trying to keep Christmas sets in one stack -- Kid sets in another -- Alphabets in another.
Maybe I should quit typing and go get some OCD medication -- I sound a little obsessive now that I read over my post . . . time for sleep . . . and dream about my (still MIA) Summer Mini . . .which will not be stored in the same file as my Spring Mini, or my Winter Mini, or my . . .
