Whatever I have that I have regretted getting..I have given away. I have my friends pay me for shipping. OR I give them to friends who live near to me. I try to clean out everything every few months.

I did regret having my crimper, many small punches, and etc. I have been stamping since 1992 and I really do find things come and go. I do own an original Sizzix and a BIG KICK too. But I do use both of them most every day.

Great subject to talk about! Cyndi

I don't know what the problem is but I cannot for the life of me get any kind of tape runner adhesive to actually adhere for longer than an hour or two. I also regret that EK Success circle cutter. It cuts circles all right, but I could only cut on whole sheets of cardstock, thereby messing up a whole sheet of paper. The Fastenator, too.

I love my ATG gun! It sticks permanent. If u don't want the bulk of the gun though I suggest Kokuyo Tape n Roller Plus (red & white). I guarantee it will stick permanent. Plus I love the convenience of easy loading. You can purchase at scrapbookpal.com. I have found them to be the most reasonable.

This is the best thread yet!

All beginner stampers and scrappers could read this and learn from our mistakes....especially when an item is mentioned again and again.

My unused items include:

The Tearing Tool--what was I thinking? I CAN tear a piece of paper with the best of 'em!

Micro/mini/maxi beads--I think I bought these because they were 'on sale.' They do look pretty though!

Fiskars Texture Plates--never been used and again, bought those bad boys 'on sale.'

Fun Flock--Not so fun--can't get it to stick to anything in an even manner and when I try to stuff it back into the container....it's doubled in size!

Off to read the other 280++ posts to listen and learn, grasshopper.....listen and learn.

lol

Fastenator Decorative Stapler - - i hate this thing.
The stampamajig - have it never used it
The tearing edge - what was I thinking?
The SU crayons - - i'm sure they are great but I have the original big set and have never used it.

Ohhh let me see...
  • Fastenater - never used it, thankfully I sold it on ebay for what I paid for it.
  • Packs of designer papers when I only liked one or two of the designs - these have all also gone the way of ebay.
  • Craft Robo - great machine, but it didn't cut the weight of card I tend to use, and I didn't use it enough for other things - this one also ended up on ebay.
  • Lightbox and brass stencils - these are gathering dust.
  • Paper Flowers - I bought so many of these and while I do use them, I would have been better buying smaller amounts and more variety, rather than huge packs.

I'm currently trying to cut back on binge shopping. I have a tendency to buy a load of stamps, and then just don't get round to using them for ages...I'm trying to use my current collection more and think harder about new purchases. In fact, I'm trying to do that for everything.

I was surprised to see the Purple Cows guillotine/trimmer on people's lists - I love mine. It's much better than the one I had previously (don't remember the brand).

I went through all my magazines. Anything useful was torn out and put in a binder by catagories and the rest went in the trash.

No, unfortunately a Cricut and Nesties are very different.

Nesties can be embossed to give a beautiful edge to the shape.

You can cut ovals or squares or rectangles or circles with a Cricut, but I have no idea how to get the nice scalloped edge on them like on the Nesties.

I have both and use both for very different things.

My regrets:
- cheap cardstock
- cheap adhesive
- 2 containers of SU Pastels. One is still sealed!
- Sets that I bought on ebay when I was just getting started like Fun Filled, Happy Hellos, Garden Collage...you know those sets that EVERYONE has listed on BST
- Sets that just aren't my style, but I HAD to have because I saw a cool card or the set demo'd like Load of Love + accessories, It's your birthday, much appreciated, etc.
- Fiskars texture plates
- Fiskars cutter

No regrets for buying:
- stamp-a-ma-jig
- black craft ink (great coverage for solid stamps!)
- heat gun & EP in basic colors

I regret buying the Crop-a-dile Big Bite. I wanted to put gromlets in the clear paint cans (that is what I got it for) and it won't go past the lip of the can! Ugh. I am not one to put many heavy embellishments in the middle of my 12 x 12 scrapbook pages, and I don't decorate belts, etc, so really feel I wasted my money. I wish I had used the money towards more Nesties!

I love this thread. So interesting. For one thing I feel good about some purchases I didn't make because of the expense. I thought my world would be complete if I had WC Crayons, Copics or PTI stamps.

Don't get me wrong I have made some no so wise purchases.

The BIA...still in the box. But, I just can't let it go. I really want to love it!

Xyron - Too bulky for what it does
Embossing Powder (too much of it) - The honeymoon is over for embossing and me. But I still hang on hoping the same old feelings will come back.
Embossing Buddie - See above comment
Embossing Pal - ditto
Tearing Edge - sold this for what I paid for it. What is the hype? I can rip paper.
Wire - I don't think I used any of it
Encore pads - not my style?
Fiskars Shaper Cutter - I can never get it to work for me
cheap ugly ribbon

Last but not least. Tons of storage boxes and bins. I organize and reorganize. Is it just me? I think it is a sickness. I think I organize more than I stamp! : )

I've read bits and pieces of this thread since it was started, this morning I've taken the time to read it through and enjoyed it. On the whole I am not an impulse buyer so I don't have many regrets. Anything that hasn't been used for a while, there is always a good cause to give it too.
But for those who say they can't cut a straight line with ordinary scissors so why did they buy decorative ones - just rule a line in pencil on the back of your paper or card, and cut along that. I don't by any means use mine every day, but probably most weeks - and the ones I knew I'd never use went into rainy-day activity bags for my nieces and nephew.
And some of the regrets I've noticed are an earlier version of something and then the later one came along - like the Fiskars eyelet setters being superseded by the CAD, and Sizzix being replaced by Cuttlebug or Cricut. To me that wouldn't count - I have the Fiskars setters and the CAD AND the Big Bite, and I still use all of them .

I agree - I was having a bad day at work so I went at lunch time and bought th Cricut. I dont scrapbook and there is not a lot of use for it in card making.

I cringe a bit when I look at it. And it reminds me of the bad day I was having.

All around not one of my better ideas!

My big monogram letters from SU---I had so many ideas and thought they would be so versatile, so I bought a letter for each of my children's names, our last name, etc and they have yet to have ink on them!

I've bought a lot of stuff that I've only used 1 or 2 times, but I don't regret buying them......(my DD says I'm a "Collector of Stuff"), I know that someday they will be used again. When I do a project, I want to know I'll have whatever I need to do it. I hate to see a project and can't make it because I don't have something I did for it. So, I guess I really am a collecor of stuff...LOL

The quickutz....I got the pink one and then gave it away to my future dil to get the purple one...I've used it maybe 4 times in two years...but I refuse to sell it cuz you just can't get anything for them any longer and if I'm going to practically give it away I'd rather give it to family or a friend.

Default Interesting Thread

I have many of the same regrets as a lot of you do:

The Fastenater (both sizes) AND a ton of the staples
Carl Cutter (why does it only measure 8" wide???)
Several different circle cutters
ProClick binding thingie
Tons of Primas and other flowers
Way too much DP that I may never use
Brass stencils and lightbox (I don't bother using them in the Big Shot, it's too much trouble)
Shiva Paintsticks to use with the stencils I never use
A set of Sizzix alphabet dies because they were on sale cheap
The heat tool that looks like a hair dryer
All of the Marvy Clever Lever scallop and plain punches
More ink that I will ever need
Too many Christmas stamps - new ones every year!
I'm sure there's more but it's late and my brain is tired.

The things is....some of it I can't bear to part with in case I should decide one day that I need it again, or it comes back into "coolness" again. Silly, I know - am I the only one that feels that way? I am lucky in that our LSS has a Used Stamp Sale every year and I can unload alot of stuff there but I need to learn to quit buying it to begin with!!!

What I do currently love are my Big Shot, Nestabilities, Copics, ScorPal and Fiskars Ultimate Craft Trimmer, Cuttlebug embossing folders, among other things.

I'm planning on getting the Bind It All, but this time I've considered the purchase for ages, and I have some actual plans for it rather than just wanting it because everyone else has one. *grin*

Hah! When I started out I bought a load of embossing powder, thinking I needed to have every colour under the sun. As it turns out, while I emboss a lot, I really only like using clear detail powder, and sometimes silver or gold. So, I sold all my never touched embossing powders on ebay...I was quite surprised, I actually got a bit more than I paid for them (I bought them in a lot on ebay to start with).

Yep, I had a wire jig and loads of wire. I bought them on ebay, and they sat gathering dust for about two years. I got rid of it all earlier this year on ebay.

My ribbon regret would be expensive designer ribbon that looked oh so cool at the time, but which I never use because it was so expensive!

I use my WWC as another poster said, by touching the end of the aquapainter to them. Gives a nice, soft look to the image.
I give you my word on the Fiskars DESKTOP! That thing is AMAZING! I was going to buy the Carl about 6 months ago & went to Office max to try it out & was very disappointed with it. I went to Archivers and tried a really used classroom one and it was AMAZING! Bought it and I have had it for 6 or 7 months and wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING! I hop ethis helps you out a bit. HUGS! Creative Memories things - blech, every kind of embossing powder, Chisel it, corrugator, Cricut & 6 or 8 carts (all in the box/unopened still), some SETS of SEI things at convention, tons and tons of ribbon, bolio stamps, luna paints, every color of pigment ink from a company in las vegas...why did I think I needed 9 shades of orange and yellow?? (and blue, green, pink and purple too, for that matter).....wire in how many colors from SU? ACK! DCWV paper stacks, other companies' paper stacks, tools that I've forgotten how to use, embellishments that I don't know what they are anymore, and oh how about FIBERS? I have a lot of Sizzlets letter sets and Alpha Bars, and old fashioned regular sizzix letter sets & dies (they were about $250 a set if I remember right)....Fastenator & staples, Tag maker, plaid maker, the alignment tool for SU wheels, some small punches dorky shapes mostly...punch art books, oh so much more....

THINGS I LOVE: my Cuttlebug & embossing folders, Nesties, Dewdrops, May Arts Ribbon, chalk inks, chalks, punches that coordinate with stamp sets (SU), SU cardstock

I'm too tired to finish, but there's a lot in both categories....fun thread!

No. You are not alone. I only regret a few storage option purchases now...somehow, I managed to fill up all the ones I'd relegated to the basement as useless. How did that happen?

My major regret is purchasing Copic markers. I purchased all four sets.....cha ching....and do not really enjoy using them. I seem to use them to color brads or ribbon to match something but that is about it. I will never give up my watercolor brush and reinkers for the markers.

Oh so many many things!

The SU ribbon holders have to be the biggest boondoggle (for me).
And I could go on and on. Lots of bogus ribbon storage, now that I think about it.

Full set of SU craft spots. They were on sale and I never use them. Great product but I really don't need these!

Tim Holtz Design Ruler -- holes are not very thick and it slides around. Prefer SU's craft mat pack....

My regret is not being in the USA so that I have access to what you have access to. Because, I'm from down under (Australia), we don't have cheap & easy access to a lot of the things you're talking about so I don't have them. Now if I was where you were, things would be very different, you have nearly 50 more pages in your SU IBC than we do, & boy could I do some serious damage there, & that I might regret. Not to mention all the other lovely companies you have like CTMH, PTI, etc that just as much regret can be bought at .

On a more serious note, after nearly 20 years of stamping & scrapbooking, I absolutly love my CM personal trimmer, it's 10 years young, never been sharpened, used nearly everyday, & still cuts like it just came out of the box. I know that I use every stamp in my collection (about 200 stamps) each year several times, some much more than others. The only real regret that I have is the first stamp positioner that I had, a T shaped piece of acrylic, it was always hit & miss as to whether you would get it positioned properly or not. I now have a Stamp-a-ma- jig .

Thanks for this thread, I've had lots of enjoyable reading from it.

I laughed when I read your comment. I am a SU demo, but the trimmer is also one of my favorite products. You can't beat it for trimming your photos or small bits of paper. I also LOVE my circle and oval cutting system from CM. I am constantly using both while doing my SU cards and scrapbook pages. TEE HEE---my customers saying I am 'going to the dark side' when I bring out my 'non-SU' stuff!

I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread -- I have one box of these texture plates and didn't even think about using them in my new cuttlebug. Thanks for the info!

And I've been laughing out loud at all the people who regret their tearing tools because they can do it themselves. Sounds SO funny but true!

I love my Cricut but only use if for scrapbooking - mainly titles. So I do regret buying the Christmas cartridge because I just wouldn't use all the little images on my pages. I've stuck to 3 or 4 different fonts instead and seems to do the trick (plus I got it at half price when they were introducing the bigger, newer model.

Good lesson, Kittie....stick with what works for you no matter what the latest *trend* is. I like coloring with my aqua painter and SU inkpad (ink squished on the lids). My life's goal in all areas of my life is to do things the most simple and inexpensive way while still getting quality results.

I don't have any major purchase regrets, just minor ones like cheap cardstock, cheap ribbon, the SU metallic pencils, cute embellishments that I've never used, etc.

Wow! What a great thread!! As one poster said " listen and learn, grasshopper, listen and learn." I only a few stamp sets that I absolutely postivitely, had to have, that have never seen the light of day. *** heavy sigh*** and a few primas. So not me!! Love the sparkle, but can't get the hang of the primas. It's mental, I know. I feel a cleaning day coming on, and a big bag of crud ( ohhhh, I mean great stuff!!!!!) going to the Preschool and/or the girlscouts!!

Ok, I've only read to the end of page six, but it seems there are lots of cricut purchases that are regretted. I've never been one to learn from other's mistakes ... if anyone is interested in selling a cricut for a decent price, please pm me! This is something I've been wanting since it came out.

Fastenator! What a waste. I don't even like the look of staples on cards, so I don't know why I ever asked for it!

The other was the Punchular! I had to have it! Used it once, didn't like the impression it left on my paper and put it in the closet. I finally donaed it to Goodwill along with the punches I purchased.

Since joining SU, I am truly spending a lot less on tools I will never use. Instead, I am buying stamps & CS. So far, those I use.

I don't really have much for regrets...there are a few stamp sets that I don't use much, but I have mounted and used all of them. I guess if there's one thing it would be the SU crayons, but I'm still holding out that one day I'll like them better - you know, learn a new technique and use them more!

I've seen a few posts about particular Sizzix dies and some cricut stuff and so that brings me to my burning question. I'm thinking about getting a Big Shot - what do you guys think...will I regret it?? Right now I can cut at my lss for free, but it would be handy to have something at home, you know? Or, will I use it enough to justify the cost? (and if you are one that loves it...what dies do I HAVE to have??)

Thanks!
Sherri

So sad

I regret buying my light box, all that pearl ex (same as deipara, above) but my biggest regret is buying my Cricut. I only have one cart-George-but I never use it. It may be good for scrapbooking but I can't think of anything to do with it in card making. I know I might use some of the other cartridges but I just can't justify spending $89.00 for one cartridge!
