I am the Queen of buying stuff I see demo'd...I always THINK (key word THINK) I will go home and create amazing things with my impulse purchases.
I go to conventions and do Make and Takes and usually buy the materials used. Then I forget the technique before I get around to making the stuff. It's the same way with the classes I take. So...I have alot of unused stamps and stuff.... I regret spending so much $$ but I LOVE having the stuff!!!
I'm lucky that I do have the $$ to spend and I have the room to store the stuff.

I don't live anywhere close to a stamp, art or craft store, so I like having a stash. I agree with another poster. There is nothing worst that having a creative idea and no supplies to work with. However, I do regret buying the QK Revolution (not on sale), quality product but once I got the CB, it got put on the shelf and never used.
QK alphabet
, I use the mini ones a bit but only used the big one once or twice.
Stickers, I have a drawer full of them and hardly ever use them for anything.
Expensive set of pearly embossing powder. I mostly use clear, black or gold.
I could go on and on...

My Curvy Cutter. I can't get it to cut a circle for the life of me. I'm much happier with my coluzzle.

I started out scrapbooking as others have mentioned, so I have a ton of stickers I bought when I first started out that I may never use. I also have a lot of buttons that I am holding onto and now trying to incorporate into cards since I see so many pretty examples on here!

I just switched over to stamping and card making in the last year but have always done crafts so my floss was left over from cross stitch, ribbon is so pretty I have quite a collection, but have a hard time using it. Again, I am trying to case some cards from here and learn to use it so I like the way it turns out.

Since my ds leaves for college this fall, I think I will have a lot more time to play and am looking forward to pushing myself to use some of the stuff that has been sitting. My niece also scraps and I just introduced her to stamping at Christmas (shame on me!) so I just passed some stamps I bought early on to her. Since she is still in college, money is tight and I know I can pass some of the more timeless stuff on to her and it will get used.

That said, I keep threatening to donate some of my old cardstock to ds's grade school, it is close by and I keep in touch with some of his teachers. I know they could use it for bulletin boards and with all the cutbacks these days, every little bit helps, so this fall may be the time.

I keep looking at all the stuff I have, and I know my 'collection' is small compared to some and thinking I need to purge. Of course my motivation is so I can buy more!!

Ooh, this is a fun thread! I hate to use the word "regret", but it is what it is. Here are some of my buyer's remorse items:
  • Pearl Ex
  • 1000 pack of eyelets (bought them in 2001 and STILL using them...will it never end????)
  • Hodgepodge Hardware (so cute, but I have no idea what to do with the stuff in it...it'll go to the "sell" forum next month)
  • Jumbo Roller and the wheels (if I can't CUT in a straight line, how on earth am I going to ROLL in one? )
  • WackyTac Vellum tape (I just need to suck it up and throw this away)
  • brightly colored embossing powder

Cheap (vs. inexpensive) paper/cardstock - doesn't happen anymore; I think it is something you learn as you go.

Eyelet setter (hammer/pad) - once I get my Crop-A-Dile I will buy eyelets.

My regrets:
A couple of SU sets

Yes, the black one that is very very difficult to spin, even after my "demo" fixed it for me. It is a little better now.

I'm short too with curly hair and would love to be at least 5'6".

Anyways, I started as a scrapper and morphed into a stamping card maker. I want to get back to scrapping though.

My regrets:
• Buying multiple (3-4) pieces of each patterned paper that I liked because I was afraid to run out mid-project. The result? A huge stash of patterned paper. I have a stack in a box that I'm going to give to the elementary school in the fall.

• Club Scrap. I have a huge stash of it and rarely, if ever use it. I doubt that I ever will at this point. It's beautiful and elegant, but my style is NOT elegant.

• Club Scrap unmounted sheets. What was I thinking?

• 65,000 acrylic alphabets (Technique Tuesdays, Stampendous, My Sentiments Exactly). Yes, I know they're clear. I still can't get them straight for the life of me. I'm a Virgo, so this makes me insane(r).

• Most embellishments that aren't ribbon, flowers, or gemstones. I have tons of acrylic, plastic, metal embellishments including fancy brads that I just had to have and never, ever use. Why did I buy all those button alphabets????

• EK Success Circle thingy. I liked my CM one, why did I need another?

• My melting pot and all the accoutrements. Still all in the original packaging.

I do have loads of uninked SU stamps, but I do plan on using them eventually.

I have loads of chipboard coasters, chipboard alphas, grungeboard, etc. But I do have plans for those as well.

I don't regret buying my punches, QK dies, Big Shot, CB Embossing folders, or Nestabilities. I love them.

And eventhough I have a motherlode of patterned paper, cardstock, ribbon, and gemstones, I continue to buy all of them. I think it's because they always fit and don't make my butt look big!

the only thing i regret is all the scissors i bought to cut paper into different types of edges (i know there's a better way to describe this, but i can't think of it right now!) it's so hard to line the next cut up, and to go in a straight line, and they're not pretty cuts, i think i might have one, out of 20 pairs, that i use.......

and fwiw, i LOVE the ink caddy! in fact, i had to buy a second one, for the new colors, versa mark, the spectrum pads, etc. and before long, i'll need a third one!

There are a few other places for you to look for a brayer. Have you checked
out your local art store? or maybe in your elementary school supplies
store ? Surely there are some cheaper ones out there.
just gotta look in a different place.
sometimes you can find stuff you can use in the hardware store or other places for way cheaper. They work just as good!

It's so funny how everyone has reminded me of so much more stuff that I regret that I didn't post earlier in this thread! Pigment powders, paper crimper, stickers, eyelets, hodgepodge, and so on.

If only I could have all that money back so I could buy other stuff, LOL! It's such a vicious cycle!

Regrets:

Fiskars circle cutter
paper crimper
stickers
mat stacks in some horrid colors
chipboard shapes
Crop-o-dile
SU alphabet stamps - I have two that I never use

That's all I can come up with now. I'm sure if I went up to my supplies my list would be longer.

OMG, I bought the crappiest scrapbook before I knew what I was doing. It's perfect...for a young child maybe!

And, when I started stamping I was on my own and was completely amazed when my (now) upline showed me ink that dried immediately after being stamped. You see, I'd purchased pigment pads because I didn't know there was any difference and I was always smearing my cards.

I also have "shadow" inks. No need for those since I now know how to make my own shadow effects.

I'm sure there are more but those are what come immediately to mind. I sure do love to buy stuff.

Ohhh I don't know if I want to start thinking of the things I regret buying...LOL It seems when we first start in this hobby we want and buy evertyhing!!! Then our taste change or we learn how to use things and think to ourselves..." WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!

Hmm for me a few things...

Sizzix dies, and alphabets. I don't use them!
H2o's cant get them to look right.
Stickers, Stickers and MORE stickers... I am not a sticker person...
Cheap quality 12 x 12 paper
paper stacks
pro-click binding machine
embellishments just because they were on clearance! LMAO!!!

That's it... its bringing back to many bad memories of all that $$$ spent LOL

I started scrapbooking when the hottest thing to do with your pictures was to use eding scissors and the only things on a pager were matted photos and stickers! So I have a lot of things that I bought in the beginning that just weren't my style. Thankfully there is a group of us that have a crafting garage sale every summer. My unused, unwanted, and why did I buy that items find good homes and have cash to spend on more goodies!

Me too!! My first attempt at a scrapbook was just solid colored paper with photos cut in those edging patterns and then stuck on with Classic Pooh stickers!

I keep meaning to go back and save it...but it's too far gone!

I regret buying a couple of stamps sets - like recently I purchased Ageless Adornment and Provencial from the BST, and I will never ever use them And they weren't cheap! I have seen them go for much, much less now on the same forum. I thought they would be great for some pages I was planning, but should have asked for samples first - seeing them IRL, I would have never bought it otherwise. I will end up passing them along to a friend.

Other than that, I love pretty much everything else and the sets I have, tons of PP, cardstock, embellies, stickles - you name it!

I regret buying several things. The first things that come to mind:

Stickles - the bottle always clogs up (hate em)
Sizzix alphabets
EKSuccess Coloriser heat tool
Too many $1.00 stamps
Gobs of chipboard letters and shapes

For me:
WackyTac Vellum tape
Stickles - just not enough glittery effect for me and too much glue
Embossing powders - I only use the same ones...over and over...
Papertrey Ink stamp sets - I had to have them and only use a few of them...I have big time buyers remorse with those as I wasted sooo much money!
Cricut cartridges - just dont use them enough - since I got my bug, my cricut just sits on the shelf!

I'm a collector, too, so there's lots of things I bought that I haven't used yet. (I do still have good intentions!) Some of the things that I do regret are cheap cardstock that I bought early on, monthly kits from early on with lots of stuff that I don't really like, some of my stampin up stamp sets that I like but don't really know what I'll ever do with them, mini fastenator, colored staples, marvy punches because I bought the nestabilities, and my quickcutz stuff.

A lot of my regrets have been mentioned already. I have:

way, way too many eyelets in colors that don't match my paper
ribbon I don't use
a lot of embossing powders and all I ever use anymore is I.I. and clear
crimper
a lot of punches I don't use, in fact the only ones I use are my SU ones and the circles
4 wheels and 2 cartridges I never use
SU's tag sheets that I bought in every color and only use occasionally

I have no regrets when it comes to paper, I only use SU and any patterned paper I buy I usually find myself using in my scrapbooks. I also love all my stamp sets, except for some Sellabration ones I earned. And unlike some here, I LOVE my watercolor crayons.

Yup! I totally agree with this one. I've pulled mine out of the box a few times, but never actually used it. I also agree with the post about the PTI stamp sets. There are several that I use a lot, but most of them I was sucked into buying by all the pretty design team samples.

It is really interesting how the regret threads are somewhat common on one hand (eyelets, cheap paper) and on the other, some of the things on people's regret lists are things I still want (cricut, atg gun, su sets, embossing powders). I did get the nestabilities, though I still need to make time to play with them. But I could see from the cards on here and linked blogs that they will fit my style and I should get lots of use out of them.

I guess it just goes to show that reading reviews from other stampers really helps one decide what they might 'need' and what they can live without. I just bought an 'embossing buddy' today and I never would have known about it without this site!!

I am sooo happy I found SCS!

Hands down it would have to be the xyron design runner. I did at least try it and its not something I will get use out of. I had purchased the disc maker to go along with it but I luckily did not open it and was able to take it back, whew.

I also regret the cricut and the cricut expression and about 5 carts I purchased but I luckily sold them on craigslist. I lost money but I did recoup something. It was just not for me.

I have since got a Quickutz Revolution and dies and I love it. Its funny they both kinda do the same thing? who knows?

I also regret buying the SU inks in all the colors, that is the biggest waste. They will end up drying out.

I love the BIA and I just got a scor pal and love it as well.

The first thing to come to mind is cheap adhesive. I've got some that I bought in bulk because of a great price and I learned pretty quickly that I got what I paid for... cheap stuff! It hard to get to roll off of the roller and when it does it barely sticks. The stupid thing is that I won't throw it away.. that would be waste!... so I just keep trying to use it til it's gone. I really should just toss it, and learn to buy quality over cheap prices (or both if possible!) This is a lesson I need to apply to several areas of my scrapbooking purchases.

Next would be some of my marvy punches.. you know, the big square ones that are impossible to punch unless you put them on the floor and stand on them. The trouble with punching that way is that you can't ever get it just right if you've stamped first (which I *always* do!)

Probably the last thing would be my cricket and cartridges. I got it because I thought it would be good for making words and getting the letter lined up, but I've only ever used it a few times and it's now gathering dust. Maybe if I get a proper stamping space instead of my kitchen table I'll have the room to keep it out and use it.

Do you know if there's a 12-step program for stamping? No, seriously, is there??

I don't have too many regrets, and I usually sell them once I realize I have regretted the purchase. LOL My most recent regret was alcohol inks and I have already sold them. I kind of regret buying my xyron machine. I like them, but the refills are just so expensive, even with a coupon.

I'm fairly new to stamping and still think everything I buy is the neatest thing! BUT, there are a couple of things:

a few ink pads that I ended up not liking and they sit there
the fiskars eyelet setter--and it's only a regret b/c now I have a cropadile so the fiskars sits. i loved it when I used it though, just wish I'd have gone straight to the CAD.
a few hand punches--seemed like a great deal until I never used them!

My Crop-O-dile that I had to have and it $19.99. It just sits there in the drawer.
