I'm grateful for this thread. It makes me think twice about buying some products. On the other hand, wish I'd read this thread a long time ago before I bought some products.

A few of my regrets would be:

Gel pens except for some
Too many eyelets
Cheap DP
Primas
Fiskars decorative scissors
stickers
Cuttlebug dies
Rub Ons
Chalks
Pearl Ex
Tim Holtz ruler
Too many Marvy punches
Embossing powders
Pigment Ink Pads

Things I Love:

Cuttlebug
Cuttlebug embossing folders
Crop A Dile
Scor Pal
SU rubberstamps
SU DSP
Stamp a ma Jig
Stickles
Stardust Gel Pens

I have far too many regrets as far as unused product to mention here but live and learn.

What don't you like about the Tim Holtz ruler? It is one of my favorite tools and I use it almost every time I make cards. I agree about eyelets.

I am a card stamper and I LOVE my ATG. My house contractor just asked me to buy him one because he is the rapper...no...Wrapper in the family!

Hope this goes to the right place. I am a newbie

Admittedly I haven't had the ruler all that long but every time I pick the thing up it seems I've got it backwards or on the centering side or whatever. Also, I prefer a metal edged 18 "ruler so I can cut alongside it with an exacto knife etc. without damage to the ruler. What DO you like about it?

I'm another that doesn't really like the Tim Holtz ruler as the lines are too thick and I also seem to always have to flip it to read the numbers in the direction I prefer.

I do like the metal edge but I'm going to find a metal edge clear ruler with thinner lines.

One thing I bought that was a total waste is the Stampress. I rarely use wheels and I thought it would get me to use them. Now the Stampress sits in my sell pile. I've unmounted most of my wheels and I use them like an unmounted stamp.

Red face

I regret buying:
1. Fiskars Texture Plates- too hard to use with the tool they make and even when I put them in my Cuttlebug, I can not get a deep impression. They are just not cut as deeply as the Cuttlebug Folders and once you have tried those, the Fiskars are a dud.
2. Too many eyelets-found out I prefer brads better. I just do not like that hole! Plus, I'll die before I can use up that many eyelets!! LOL
3. 2 of the 3 stamp aligners that I bought. One has an "arm" that I have to swing around and I am just too clumsy. The paper moves while I am trying to juggle all this. Found out that it would be better to give it to a "stamping octapus." At least, they have enough arms! LOL. The other positioner was $30 and I only used it in one class. We were all disgusted with it and wound up buying the $10 Stamp-a-ma-jig. That's the only one I use now.
4. Cheap cardstock from A.C.Moore and Michael's from when I first started stamping . Found out that Stampin Up is MUCH better so now I use the cheap stuff in my Cuttlebug to punch out die cuts for kid's craft projects.
At least THEY enjoyed making Halloween scenes on construction paper, Christmas cards and Valentines . LOL
5. Circle and oval cutter from Fiskars. Never used them even before getting the Nesties.

And the list goes on and on and ..........
I have to stop. I am making myself nauseous.LOL!!!!

I won't say these are regrets...because when I bought them, I thought I REALLY needed them...but I never use any of these any more - and would love for them to find a happy new home...

Eyelets
pearl ex
twinkling H2os
SU Watercolor crayons
SU watercolor pencils
SU Chalks
tons of SU sets (I still have plenty - but too many - and need to make room!)
a few PTI sets
some DSP - ok, a LOT of DSP
hodgepodge hardware (the original ones...I only used a few pieces...)
pretties kit
Primas LOTS of Primas...

I'll leave it at that...I could be here a while

I am buying a Scor-Pal this week with my 30% off coupon to Archiver's. I keep seeing these cute boxes and bags in the galleries made with them. What do you use other wise?

Yeah, so when I first started stamping I don't think I was making the best purchases. I joined a club in January a coupe years back, and the very next month, during SAB, was my turn to hostess. I earned about 4 different free sets plus $45 in hostess credit, in addition to my own $50 purchase. I don't think I still have any of the sets I got. I just didn't make good choices. I think I initially bought the first few things that caught my eye. Being new to stamping, I should have started out getting things that would really help me out a lot. I can't even remember specifically.

Last winter I discovered the things I didn't think I had made a good choice with was a whole bunch of packs of DSP....and in the In Colors that were going to retire. I hoarded them like crazy with NO intention of using the in colors any more once they retired. So, I had all this paper and nothing to do with it. Then of course I sold it for a ridiculously cheap price (grr).

As for big purchases, haven't really made any yet that I regret. Thankfully the first few times I had a big chunk of money to spend, I bought a lot of organizational stuff, and things like getting all the rest of the SU! color family ink pads...

I can't believe someone didn't love their ATG. Hmm, definitely something I loved a lot!

Hmm, I really can't think of anything else. I am sure I will have more things to add to this list over the years.

Sadly, I'd also have to say a lot of my SU! sets. Makes me sad, but it's true. Oh, and several CB and QK dies. The embossing folders I LOVE, but the dies are underused.

Things I totally regret:
the cricut and all the carts ( have a silhouette too much versatility with it)
all the shaped eyelets
fiskars shape cutter
fiskars texture plates
tons of paper
some sizzix dies
several things of distress embossing powder (never could get it to work right)
I'm sure there are others but those are the ones off the top of my head

Wow - I guess I'm a total newbie (only been stamping for about 5 months) because half of the stuff featured on everyone's "regret" list is on my "desire" list. lol

Except the Cricut. I bought it for myself as a birthday gift and I've only pulled it out twice. I also stamp at my kitchen table and find it difficult to use in a tiny space. But in my own defense - I bought it around Thanksgiving and it's just been a whirlwind of crazy holiday business here. Maybe 2009 will be my CRICUT year! lol

This thread started out a while ago but I'm really glad I read through all of it. I saw that a lot of people didn't use the Stickles. I'm a huge fan of fine glitter and thought I must be doing something wrong if everyone says not to use loose glitter. lol Glad I'm not alone!

Not alone - I have a couple of bottles of stickles and a huge STASH of loose glitter and I really prefer the loose. Yes, it's messier to use, but I can write and actual word with my Sakura Quickie Glue pen and sprinkle it with fine glitter and be able to read the word when I'm done with it! Can't do that with stickles.

Here is my list

-SU Watercolor pencils. Hate the colors! ( I do want the watercolor crayons so bad as I love them)
-Fiskars Texture templates
-Fiskars Scrap Emboss, Card Emboss
-Alot of scrapbook papers that I don't use
-Some clear crappy stamps (Very cheap ones)
-Some Martha Stewart border punches - they are crap and don't punch good at all.
-Martha Stewart bone folder - it leaves the cardstock way to shiny where you used it - great for burnishing cardstock though!!

This definately has been an interesting thread. I would say that my biggest regrets are either impulse ebay purchases or all the stuff that I bought as an overly excited newbie to stamping and scrapbooking with Michaels and Joanns coupons. Specifically:

- The spinner with something like 30 fancy edge scissors
- Tons of DCWV stacks and misc cheap cardstock and dsp
- Studio G clear stamps
- Lots of stickers
- Heat and Stick Powder
- Country Living SU Holiday Kit (ordered it and then decided I don't use chipboard, so I have all the chipboard popped out but sitting in the bag undecorated)

I do however love, love, love
- my Scor pal
- the Stampin Up accessories caddy (seriously, so happy I bought it!)
- the stamp-a-majig

This is an interesting thread. On my regret list there is -

- My fiskars shape cutter - I hate it.
- Lots of cheap paper
- Cheap stamps I bought before I discovered online stores (I mean ones besides eBay)
- Peel Offs

Lots of things really must sort out my stuff into sell, send (RAKs) and Bin.

I went to a stamp show and bought a TON of cardstock, but it's all not what I LOVE I just got it because it was a good price. I should have gotten like one pack. (it's marcos papers, it's good, just not my personal favorite)

I don't know what else, usually I just sell whatever I turn out not to use a bunch. I sell about half my stuff about once a year. Well it feels like half I'm sure it's not really.

Oh and I LOVE my ATG, Scor Pal and stickles. They are three of my most favorite things I own.

What I regret buying are Studio 2 alcohol markers, light box and brass templates, a zillion eyelets, stickers (I couldn't just buy 1 sticker, I had to buy 10 of the same kind!), Pearl Ex, too many different colors of embossing powder. I love my Cuttlebug and use it alot, if you get it on sale I think it is a good value for the money and the EF's are inexpensive. One of the best things I did for myself is to set up a good organizational system for my SU cardstock that works for me. I can easily select the color I want and see what paper I own. It took me years to realize that I should have done this a long time ago. I gave away most of my non-SU cardstock and it's been wonderful.

Purple Cows Freestyle Cutter. I think, for me, this has to be one of the worst products. Fortunately, I was able to return it to ACMoore and get my money back. Everytime I pass that section in ACMoore, all I can think of is "what a waste of money!"

There are a couple other things around, too, but nothing quite so blatant for me.

I won a Quikutz Squeeze 2-3 months ago, and I was excited at the time. Still haven't used it though.

How did you organize your cardstock? I've been trying to figure out good ways to organize all my paper and love to see how other people do it.

What are peel offs?

I regret buying the silent setter. It wasn't really expensive, but the zipper on the case never worked correctly, and now that I have the cropodile, I don't use it anyway.

What I regret buying:

Colored wire

Gel Pens

funky color mixes of embossing powder

eyelets

SU vellum packages

30 too many American Crafts ribbon assortments (the ones where each spool only has 3 or 4 feet of ribbon -hate that!) I buy and use the spools with 3 yards on each - I guess I'm afraid I'll use it all up and want it for something else...how ridiculous!

Sizzix original die cut alphabets...one set was almost $200 - I don't think I ever used it, and don't know where it's at...maybe it was donated or something.

any sort of fibers that were sold maybe 5 or 6 years ago...blech!

funny shaped brads (like dog bones, fish, kitties, etc)...

Scrappin kits from Micheal's (the ones with 500+ pieces for only 39.99)...something like that - it was a waste of my time and money

SU original Craft pads - they never worked well for me (the later versions with spongey pads were fine).

Fiskars Shape Cutter - don't even know how to use it...still in box

What I should have bought sooner:

Organization system/cabinets/shelves

Nesties

Tonic Cutter

Tombow Mono Multi adhesive (green/white bottle), Zip Dry, UHU glue

Cuttlebug

I use my Stickles "Crystal" & "Diamond" all the time...never hardly ever open the other ones!

Still need to GET RID OF:

Old magazines & catalogs (Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, Cards, Simple Scrapbooks, PSX catty, Hero Arts, All Night Media, etc. etc....)

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones off the top of my head
Distress eps? Are they Tim Holtz ones? If so, pm me - I could be interested in a trade or buying from you

I'm a Girl Scout Leader and I just donated a bunch of old paper to my troop to make crafts for our local craft fair. I bet a lot of this stuff that isn't really worth selling, paper, stickers etc., would be great to donate to a local Girl Scout troop, and you could probably use it as a tax write off. Just a thought...

There are a lot of things I have bought that I don't use. But, I try to challenge myself and go back and find ways to use them. Like all those scissors to make edges. There are a lot of my wood mounted stamps I don't use much anymore. My paper crimper I hardly ever use. If you can tell, I have a problem letting go of things. So all these things I keep, because I am hoping inspiration will strike. I may need those scissors, paper crimper, and stamps...you neve know.

We all have those "things" we just had to have. Recently, instead of buying a new stove, I helped out a friend by buying all her sizzix dies (at least 30 of each green, yellow, red), alphabets, machine, etc. That $600 would be nice in my kitchen right now. Have not used them ONCE! Next I just kept waiting for the price of the Cricut to come down so I could justify it in my mind. Well, it did, I did, and it is still in the shipping box. I do use my CB all the time for embossing - however, just order the BS and am wondering what other BIG $$$ item will end up in the pile.

As for donations, I do it every year - to schools, troops, Goodwill, churches, etc. For nine years now and never been audited for making such high donations. I could not sell any of the items for what it helps my taxes. Now if I would only realize upfront that I should not have bought... We all know hindsight is better than 20/20!

HL has a lot of scrapbooking stuff 50% off this week. I am visiting my DD in TX and wonder what I can fit into my luggage. Like I need to buy more. I cannot walk in that room now. My kids told me to get the bed out of the room and I had have more space to create. Wonderful idea! Now if they can just find me more TIME!

I organized my SU! CS by buying some white plastic magazine organizers from a catalog company, can't remember the name now and I am away from home so I can't riffle through my catalogs to see. If I can find it, I will post it later. They look exactly like the ones that SU! sells, but they are much cheaper and available in the 8.5 x 11 size that I buy my paper in. I put each paper color in a multi-page page protector and label it on the spine, then arrange them in color order in the magazine holders. I always put all scraps right in the page protector so that when I want to use that color, I always reach for the smallest piece I can use and I don't have to sift through a separate file of scraps. I love that and it works so well. I think that it helps me make better use of my supplies. The magazine holders are lined up on a shelf right next to where I work so they are quite handy and out of the fading effects of the sun.

I haven't read the whole thread, but am so glad I am not alone. There are several items I've bought over the 3 yrs I've been crafting that I have regretted purchasing.

They are:
Cricut, I do regret buying it as I feel I don't use it as much as I should. I got it on sale at M's (it will be 2 yrs in Feb), but I just don't use it as much. I have 3 carts and haven't used them hardly at all.
Heat embossing gun and the embossing powders (I never really understood how to use it after I burnt my kitchen table lol, and haven't tried since)
Glitter
all the decorative edge scissors (I only use like 3 and I have like
Crop-a-dile (I wanted this for so long and finally bought it w/ a coupon and just can't get it to work for me. I've used it a couple of times, but just don't like it)
Eyelets (bought a bunch in the beginning w/ my eyelet setter, which I didn't mind using the hammer as it helped me get out my frustrations lol, but then it just became on of those items I don't use anymore)
Stickers (I bought so many in the beginning, I know I will never use them all, I do like some of them though)

I love:
Stickles (used to hate them until I got some tips on how to use them/let them dry, etc...now I love using them)
Cuttlebug embossing folders
Sizzix
I love all my punches, I have the SU! tag punch, 4 of the Marvy Uchida punches, love them all. I use them more than anything.
bone folder (am wondering if I should purchase the scor-pal)
I love paper! I will always buy paper and ribbon and primas and brads and though I have a huge collection of paper that I may never use, but "needed to have" I don't regret buying it. I love paper and will continue to buy it

That is all I can think of for now...I am sure I will think of more later on...

Darleneh710 , embossing powder/heat embossing is stamping crack! you MUST have someone show you the proper way to use it. you really really must!

Nesties can be embossed to give a beautiful edge to the shape.

You can cut ovals or squares or rectangles or circles with a Cricut, but I have no idea how to get the nice scalloped edge on them like on the Nesties.

I have both and use both for very different things.
I use the Story book cart with my cricut and love that I can have scalloped circles, rectangles, ovals, squares etc in whatever size I want. I have no desire to have the embossed edge, but there are tutorials out there on how to do it with a Cricut. Not sure where, but I saw them somewhere.

I love my cricut, I use it for cardmaking, scrapping, homeschooling (can't wait to get my free community one), Embellishing ready made stuff (can't think of what that is called right now). I litterally use it almost every day.
