Default What do you do with your rubber scraps?

I've been stamping almost 3 years, and I have an ever-growing collection of rubber scraps! I keep thinking that I will use them to make some extra background stamps, but I've never been inspired to actually do it... however, I need space in my craft cabinet for some new stamps , so I'm considering releasing all of my little baggies of rubber scraps! (I'm a reformed packrat, so the idea of decluttering them into the trash can is very tempting !

What do you do with all of your rubber scraps? Make background stamps? If so, what do they look like?

I use them as dimensionals unless I really need the round ones (spinner cards, etc.)

I throw mine away. I know I would never use them, so why save them! I can buy prettier stamps than I could make ever make.

I also use mine to add dimension and for shaker cards.

I do have a lot and do sometimes throw a bunch away. I'll always buy more stamps. I doubt I'll ever run out.

Default scraps

I'be used my scraps to make several background stamps. I just use random pieces....rectangle, tiangles, squares etc. in different sizes and shapes. The end result is very nice.

I use mine as dimensionals since they will never collapse as regular dimensionals will over time...I also use mine for shaker cards...You might want to even offer up to give them to people that can use them (like a scout troop that can use them for a badge making their own stamp out of them )

I've always used them as dimensionals but also intend to use them to demo the scissors. Never woulda believed it without trying for myself, but the scissors ARE so awesome for cutting rubber. Makes it SO much easier to cut the sets!

I toss mine! I have to fight my dh daily to get rid of stuff ( I am a reformed packrat but my dh will only be reformed when I bury him 6 feet under! lol). I definitely don't need more stuff to keep up with!

I generally toss mine too, but for some reason those huge hunks left over from Petal Prints just begged to be saved, so I did.

Default rubber scraps

I also use them at workshops/classes for people to see how WONDERFUL the rubber scissors are. I have them cut w/regular vs. ours. Such a difference!!!

For those of you who use them as dimensionals, what do you make them stick with? I can't seem to find anything that the rubber side will stick to.

stacy,
peel off the rubber side too, so that all you are left with is the gray foam.
both sides are sticky then.

Default Rubber scraps....

I made my first mosaic background stamp with some of mine. (Took a LONG time, but was fun doing while watching TV and such). It is 5-1/4" x 5-1/4". If I had of thought about looking for a bigger scrap of wood, I would have made it 6 x 6. I've had fun with it - coloring sections with different colored markers or using versamark on it. It's fun to try to make shapes with it too.

I make background stamps with them.

Check out this picture in my gallery. I put long strips staggered on a wood mount, then stamped pattern in 2 different directions to get basketweave effect.

Thanks, Dawn! I feel like saying "Duh!" I guess I didn't realize the rubber would peel off the gray foam. When I first got into stamping like 8 years ago, the consultant always used the whole thing, rubber and all, and it didn't work very well, but it never occurred to me to take the rubber off too.

Thanks for clearing it up for me!

After yelling at my kids I peel them off my family room furnature and toss them out!

But I LIKE Theresa's idea of making a mosaic background stamp - I bet that is REALLY cool looking and they would ALWAYS be different!

I am a when in doubt throw it out kind of person!

I used to save EVERY little scrap of c/s - now I bag the big stuff and toss the little stuff.

Once in a while I will save it ALL and give it to a kids craft group.

Smiles

I have used the larger scraps to make shadow stamps, and have several baggies of other scraps to use for a mosiac stamp but have not tried it yet.
I saw on another card gallery ,someone had made a mosiac in the shape of a hand with some of her scraps. I usually throw all the little bitty pieces away.

Default give them away

I keep one tiny ziploc back to use for dimensionals occasionally. The rest I give immediately to my kids and they stick them on paper and make things with. They come up with neat "pictures" with the pieces and it is a good imagination game!

Or you could give some to a school class for the same purpose. We have a non-profit kids art studio that I donate a lot to when I get a little bag of them. Kids love anything they can stick on things!

Default rubber scraps

I have used them to create my own 2-step stamps. For "The Fine Print" I stamped the top of the umbrella onto a scrap, cut it out and mounted it on the side of the wood. Now I have the perfect fill-in. I got the idea from my demonstrator.

I trash em! I saved them for my older sis for awhile because she used them for dimensionals, but I got tired of it.....now they go straight to the trash.
