Default What do you do with your old stamping magazines?

Trying to decide what to do with all these magazines. Thought a poll might help.

I keep all my magazines but that's not a choice on your poll. The only magazines I got rid of were some of my Rubberstampmadness. I took those to a LSS to swap for mags other stampers wanted to get rid of. I refer to my old mags all the time. Once I start running out of room I'll have to start weeding out some really old ones and cut out articles I think I might use. They are such a great resource and, unlike the computer, I can bring them in bed to flip through.

Who says they're old???? Actually, at this point I don't have to make a decision, I still have room!!! I just keep them in those plastic magazine holders right now. I would admit, they're getting a little full, but those crochet magazines might need to go! lol

I've got to apologize to everyone participating in this poll. I didn't know your name would appear by your vote. I thought that option meant that you would be able to see the poll results. Obviously I didn't read the instructions, just winged it. But it is nothing controversial so I guess it doesn't matter. I'll know better next time. Tried to see if I could change it, but don't find an option to do so.

Where is the option that says "She who dies with the most stamping magazines wins!" I keep mine forever. I've been stamping since the early 80s and one thing I've learned is that what's old becomes new again. Every once in a while I go back to a very old VSN and find a technique that the old timesrs have forgotten about and the newbies never heard of.

I cut out the ideas I like and tape them to a 5x7 index card. I file these into a pretty basket that I've labeled "Inspiration". I have a file folder underneath that I keep some full page articles in. I do this 2-3 mo after I receive the mag.

Default Magazine & supplies

I PIF the ones that I no longer use or if there are not any techniques or articles that I find interesting. I also do the same with some of my supplies, things I purchased that I thought I couldn't live without and never have used or tried. And I PIF my scrapbooking magazines also. Especially the ones with all of the baby layouts, ideas, etc. Once I finished scrapping all of the grandkids' baby stuff, I needed sports, dance, and such so I swapped those with some friends from work. I have a limited space to keep my craft/rubberstamping supplies so this helps to keep things in order. I've never been able to tear pages out and just throw the magazine away.

I keep all my magazines as well. Last time I purged was when I moved from England to Alaska and we had a weight limit on our household goods!

I keep every mag I get. That goes for s/b mags too. maybe this thread can be integrated with the 80/20 one, it looks like a lot of us keep mags. I can never bear to rip up mags, to take an article out would be a sin, LOL. Of course my studio keeps on getting smaller as my supply stash grows.

Default binder it

I have 2 binders--one that I keep for all of the card ideas that I want to CASE from here and my inspiration sheets. They're all sorted by stamp set name. The other binder is for ideas that I like...either techniques, scrapbook layouts, gift ideas, etc... So far, it's working well for me and when I need inspiration, I just grap my binder and flip through. Good luck!

I don't buy many magizines but I've had plenty given to me. So in turn when I'm done getting ideas from them I give to a younger friend who can share with her teacher friends when she's done with it. You could say the magizines are well traveled.
And I don't see any name next to the vote!

I didn't respond to the poll because there wasn't an option that I agreed with. I personally keep all of them and won't ever through them out. They are a great resource for ideas and information. My customers use them when they come over when they need inspiration and my wall of cards just doesn't do it for them. Some of my favorites are even marked with little post it notes so that I can get to a card easily when I need to.

I keep them because each time I look thru them it is for a different reason. Once I may go back thru looking at how people use ephemera, another time to look specifically at collage, another time for new color combinations. Also, some of my mags have lessons on using chalks or watercolors or special techniques I might want to try at a later time. I wouldn't want to give these up. They are also nice to share with people who are new to stamping.

My set period of time to toss them is NEVER. I keep mine along with my scrapbooking ones. Maybe some day I'll toss them, but not yet. How else would I do anything without some inspiration from those who do such wonderful work to be included in a magazine.
