Default What to do with purged stuff?

I am moving my "crap" (DH's term) room to the first floor from the basement and am using this opportunity to purge....I have been enabled to many times by you all!!!! So what do I do with all the stuff that I know that I will never use. I don't want to give it to Salvation Army. I don't have the yard for a yard sale. My friends have enough of their own "crap" and don't want any more. I am going to give some of it to the school art teachers, but where else can get rid of this stuff. I feel a little guilty cuz I spent good money on it, but I'm feeling a little relieved to be rid of alot of it. TIA, Debby

What do you have?

papers, glitter, more kid-friendly stuff could go to teachers or daycares for art projects.

Tools can be ebay-ed or sold here, or on craigslist.

RAK lists? the buy/sell/trade?

Maybe OT's at a hospital could use some of it?

Maybe a retirement community or scout troop?

My LSS has a yard/garage sale twice a year. Maybe you could talk yours into doing something similar. Here's how it works. If I have things I want to sell I pay $10 for the privilege to do that. I take all my stuff (crap - LOL!) to the store with my prices on it. The store conducts the garage/yard sale and does the advertising to their customers. After the sale the store gives me store credit equal to the amount of my items that sold. It's a win/win for everyone.

You could look for local senior citizen centers, after school programs, churches, scouting programs, etc. I'm sure they could use some of it. I know what you mean about 'purging'. I sent some stuff to one of the 'Cards for a Cause' places in Jan. It was a place for children who were temporarily displaced.

Thanks for asking this- I'm purging my supplies, too, and was wondering what to do with them. I'll try the trade list and see if anyone is interested.

Default purging

I'd like to see some suggestions, too! I have several storage baskets full of stuff that's put away in a closet because I can't bear to throw it away, but if I put it in the church yard sale, they won't get much for it and I don't want it to just be tossed. I tried sending out an e-mail to some rubbery friends listing about 14 of my SU sets, but I've only had one response and she's not come over to close the deal. I have bunches of loose stamps to get rid of and no ideas.

Freecycle?
I have a friend who sends hers to me, knowing that I will take and keep what I want and then Freecycle the rest, or pass it to someone suitable.

I've had a lot of success with Craigslist. It's free, and local, and easy to use. I am using the profits from a recent Craigslist sale to purchase some old stamp sets that I've always wanted.

I send all of my purged items to the local pre-school...They have almost no budget to start with and these children need crafts!

I purged my craft room a few months ago and sold a ton on ebay. I ended up making about $1,000!

I wanted to add, the stuff I sold wasn't all new or in good condition. I even sold lots of designer paper scraps, misc. embellishments, etc. It all sold!

Ive always had good luck selling my stuff at garage sales, I have one each spring to make money for my annual trip to Vegas. I usually donate whatever is leftover. Churches, after school programs, senior centers. But it usually sells pretty well at garage sale and then you recoup a little bit of your hard earned money!

If you don't mind shipping things, check out this post about an organization that helps women escape prostitution in Nicaragua and needs donations.

How about a local Ronald McDonald House? I've donated some of my stuff there before.

There's always the WISHRAK here, too, if you want to turn those unwanted things (unwanted by you, that is) into wanted -by-you images, paper, etc...
Just a thought...

I echo Sabrina's suggestion of Freecycle. I just gave 3 bagfuls of crafty cast offs to an 11 year old girl who has ME and can't get out of the house much. She loves to make cards and this lot will keep her going for a while. She made me a very sweet card to say thank you, bless her!

An elementary art teacher is my thought. I know my neighbor loves to get crafty stuff to use with her students. It's a nice supplement to the small school budget.

A friend of mine and myself just donated LOTS of stamping/crafting things we bought from our last Fiskars warehouse sale to our local BOYS & GIRLS CLUB.
They love it and the stuff gets used by the kids for art classes and such.

There's always RAK (Random Acts of Kindness). Divide it up and send a blessings to someone on Splitcoast...There are many ladies who have lost jobs and would love to have your purges for inspiration and uplifting their spirits. If I have learned nothing else in this walk with God...I have learned that the only way to pick yourself up sometimes ist to reach down and lift someone else up! Also, try Ladies Ministries at local churches. Just some thoughts from me. Have a blessed day and be a blessing to someone else.

All my purged stuff goes to my mom or my 9 yo DD, both of whom are just getting into stamping/scrapping.

Mom generally gets the tools (Cricut, QK blue handle, Sizzix, etc) as DD can use mine. DD usually get the paper and stickers and such.

I'm also going to check with the art dept at our elem school and see if the teachers need any of my junk. I'm feeling the urge to purge again myself.

I also think an ad on Craigslist will bring you some $$$ and pretty quickly. I have always had great luck listing and selling there. Just list the whole lot and a price you would be happy with. Good luck!
Blessings.

I have a group of about 4-5 people and we are planning a "craft supplies" sale this spring. We figured that the more of us the more crafters would come to the sale. We will have everything from fabric and yarn to scrapping and stamping.
We thought we could advertise the sale on Craig's list.
I have sold stuff at my Mom's garage sales and have made pretty good money. Everyone loves to get a good deal.

I recently gave a BIG trash sized bag of "stuff" to the girl scouts, and even offered to come show the gilrls how to.....
I also sent a similair sized bag to the preschool. Don't have kids there, but they still love it!! What a relief to move out some of that stuff!! And to a good home too!!

We listed our first item (a sofa and chair) on Craigs List this past Saturday. It went like hotcakes and it was super easy and no fees. I'm actually thinking of doing that on some other stuff instead of selling on e-bay like I had been. Much more complicated and costly with ebay.

High schools are also good donation places as well. For example, my daughter is coming up on "Intersession"--each of the kids in the highschool picks one activity to learn and/or do for 3 days, whether it be golfing, scrapbooking, "dinner and a movie," travelling to NY, DC, even China and Denmark (those are 5 day trips). My daughter chose the scrapbooking activity for those 3 days.
