Question What do I teach at a stampin' class?

I have been offered the opportunity to teach a class at the local stampin' store. I was wondering what I should teach:confused: . Should I teach a technique(bleach, faux tape, faux linen, ect.) and use it on a card, or multiple techniques? Or should I teach a project(altered clipboard, gel card, shaker card, waterfall card, ect.)?

If you could help me I would appreciate it!

TIA.

How about different techniques with glossy papper? Perhaps 3-4 techniques and mount on a card front

I agree - maybe stick with a theme. Embossing, Glossy CS, Faux Techniques ect.... Are you going to have to supply the materials for the projects, if so you may want to stick with cards.

No. The store will supply all the materials.

I was also thinking of teaching these sour-cream candy holders!

That's much better for you The sour cream containers are always a hit. How long of a class is it? And how many stampers? That would be a factor in how many projects.

When I demo I usually mix it up and do a couple of cards - 1 really quick and a couple that take a bit longer. I also do some type of a treat bag, sour cream thingmy, or a small box of some kind (think something that would make a inexpensive thank you gift).

I think I would do no more than 3 things. The Sour Cream and quick 2 cards. Remember that newer stampers will take much longer to get a project done. I would rather have less projects and have my stampers not feel rushed on their projects.

Momma said that it will take longer than I expect.

So I'll do three things. Probably two with glossy and then the sour cream.

I'm getting ready!

I bought some glitter because I didn't have any:rolleyes: . I don't use it much.

I don't have any sable hair paintbrushes. So I'll have to settle with camel hair.

I think the camel will work - I think someone said that as long as it was natural hair it would work.

Momma's always right! Just ask my 4 sons

Kurtis, do you know what their stamping experience will be? You don't want to overwhelm a newbie. You'd still want to get the attention of an experienced stamper too. Your sour cream container would be a great demo for either Valentine's Day or Easter. Depending on when your workshop is (calendar wise) perhaps add a card for there too. You could do something simple and then have one already made to show how to jazz it up.
Momma is correct- it will take longer. You'll have to stand your ground and gently keep them on task. Stations are a good idea if your group is large.
Will they allow you to have a busines card available? If not you could innocently leave your info on premade card that you've laid out for them to see. Don't forget, momma is always right!

Oh, so are your adopted aunts!;)

Kurtis,
I say, go with a single project for your first class rather than 3 or more things for people to complete. The reason I say this is that when you get a fair number of people (probably all ladies), there is going to be chit-chat going on while you are trying to teach, and it will take longer to do the demo and give the steps than you planned for.

I think it will be easiest if you have one thing to teach tor your first class- like a waterfall card (I pick that because I would love to take a class & learn how and not teach myself!). You will give the instructions, a few will catch on right away, a couple will need hands on full time help and couple will probably not even get the project finished and will take it home uncompleted and be perfectly happy! You will be amazed how chaotic a room full of stampers can get -- do you have a big voice? It would be good to practice a "drill sargent" tone so that you will be able to get everyone's attention when necessary! ;)

By all means, teach the class! You will learn SO much from doing this...the organizational skills you will develop should earn you some extra brownie points with mom, if nothing else. Enjoy the process and keep reminding yourself that others don't always work as fast as you might like. You might persuade your sister to bake some cookies for you to take to share with everyone -- that is a nice way to get everyone in the right frame of mind for stamping!

Susy

How about 2 classes, one for newbies and one for experienced? I think three projects are always a good idea. I usually do two quick and easy ones and then one that is rather putzy.

Before your class, have some stampin' friends over and let them be your practice class to give you a feel for how a real class will work.

P.S. I'm available ;)

HI Kurtis!
So glad you decided to take the "job"! You will do great.
If it were me I would teach one project and a couple cards (using your techniques) and have a back up card in case they are super fast ;)
I love the faux linen and think it would be a big hit and maybe even something like embossing or how to use a brayer.....shaving cream too!
Then for your next class you could do a clipboard with some stamped (personalized) note paper.
Or an assortment of cards and the card holder...
or beaded pen and a post it pad holder....
the ideas are endless!
Gosh hope you have a lot of fun with this!

Your ideas for the class are great! I love that sour cream pouches (I call them squish boxes). I just thought I'd mention the bagalope. That is the project that attracted not only me, but all of my friends to stamping! The bag could be what is used to take the cards that are made home in.

What ever you do...have FUN!!! I wish I were there learning from you as you make very awsome cards!

Your ideas sound great! I would go with the sour cream container, Faux Linen card and a Crayon Resist card. I would definitely plan more than an hour for these 3 projects. No matter what - it will take longer than you think! Sounds like so much fun! I hope you are paid well.
