Default what brand is your favorite for black ink?

I LOVE SU products except for their black ink. I tried momemto also but it seems so "wet" that it takes along time to dry and I smear it. Do you like CTMH black ink? Any suggestions? Thanks!

For images I color with copic markers, I like tuxedo black memento ink. I wish it was a darher black, but it is the best ink I've tried with copics. For a darker black when stamping sentiments or images I won't be coloring, I like Versafine black and the archival black from ctmh. The archival black will stain clear stamps, but I love the color and how well it stamps.

I love SU! too except for their black ink. Always looks purple to me! I use Copics quite abit, so I use Memento Tuxedo Black for those images. I find it's pretty quick drying for me. For sentiments, etc. I like Palette Noir. It's really black and it dries quickly.

I use Archival black (and it is waterproof, an added bonus) and Memento for copics, and Versafine black for detailed images. Don't like SU Black at all for me. I know it has been reformulated, so it is probably fine now, but since I have 3 that work for me, I won't bother with it.

I hate SU black too! Here are my favorites (for different purposes)

Memento - Copics
Stewart Superior India Ink - Waterproof
Versafine - detailed images
Brilliance - glossy surfaces or vellum

Versafine Onyx Black is my go-to black.
I have Ranger's Archival, but I tend to keep it for stamping on stuff like alcohol inks/polished stone, gesso finishes and so on. I have Memento Tuxedo Black for any time I might want to use alcohol inks (don't have Copics, but sometimes RAK images to people who use them), but I don't find it gives as black a result as Versafine.

I like staz-on black. It dries fast and doesn't smear when I use markers or blender pens. Stampin' up sells it, but you can also get it at Michaels.

An FYI. I like Staz-On too, but it tends to stain stamps easily. I'd suggest also buying some of the Staz-On cleaner to remove the stains right away.

So long as they're not clear - it's not recommended for use on those.
UltraClean is, I believe, safe for clear stamps and does a great job on rubber ones too - but I hate the greasy feel of it!

Another vote for Versafine Onyx!

I just convinced my mom to pick one up at Michael's. She was sold when I told her that I've had mine for over three years now, it's never needed re-inking, and it works like a dream!

I love SU inks, just not their black.

Another vote for the India Ink pad. Its waterproof but unlike Stazon it dries on non-pourus surfaces without the smell and the pad doesn't need to be re-inked constantly.

I also love the Archival Coal Black, probably the darkest ink I've seen but the pads get torn too easily.

I like the Memento for coloring with Copics, otherwise I use Versafine. I used to like Palette, but haven't been able to find it locally, and my 3 pads have dried up.

It depends on what I am using it for. I love my Memento to use with my Copics, but if I am stamping a sentiment I love Versafine. It stamps so crisp and vivid .

Memento for copics (although I've gotten into digis and that isn't a choice for printer ink )
I like all of Ranger's black inks - Distress, Archival, etc
VersaFine for those detail images that need a little extra oomph!

Another vote for Ranger Archival black. The detail is amazing with it. It does stain clear stamps, but it makes them work better with Distress inks anyway.

I sometimes had this problem also...So I started storing this pad upside down to keep the ink towards the top of the pad and I do need to re-ink it more often than others as it has an alcohol base and the alcohol tends to evaporate, but once it has been re-inked it works fabulously again...

Memento ink is supposed to dry instantly, maybe your ink pad was over 'inked'. Try pressing the ink pad on some scrap paper or a folded paper towel to suck out some of the excess ink.

StazOn is my go-to black when I want to stamp on a printed background - it just seems to cover better. After years and years with SU, I finally gave up on them being able to make a black that didn't look purple. Memento is what I use when I need to get the paper wet with watercolor pencils or markers. And, if I really want a thick black, I will just use black embossing powder.

I have most every company's blacks, but the one I keep on my work space and use 99% of the time is India Ink Black. It dries quickly and doesn't run with any medium I use to color with.

I only have 2 or 3 black ink pads and my favorite is Stewart Superior Memories. It is 12-14 y ears old, I keep reinking and it keeps on working. It never smears, it's never too wet and works on everything from polished stone to reg card stock.

It depends on what I'm doing with it.

Versafine for crisp images/sentiments that I'm not going to color with alcohol markers
Brilliance - for embossing and use on vellum
Memento - for use with alcohol markers

Versafine is my go to ink for almost everything though.
