Question What am I doing wrong?!!

Hi Folks!

As you can see from my membership I am a newbie to this wonderful site so please be gentle with me?!!

Being English I am appealing to all of you wonderful stampers/crafters across the Atlantic for help!

Please forgive me if this sounds really dumb but what exactly am I doing wrong?

I have recently purchased some clear clingy stamps and several sets of marvy le plume brush markers in an effort to finally get to grips with this stamping business!

I was under the impression that you could apply the pens directly to the stamp to individually colour each section. However whenever I try to do this the ink just sort of gathers in one place and leaves a really uneven messy impression. When I use a normal ink pad it works fine but what do I do if I want the outlines of my image to be different colours?

Also when I am stamping an image what is the best base colour to use as an outline to then be watercoloured in? (This I CAN do! LOL!)

Again I apologise if this all sounds really stupid to all of you wonderfully creative folk out there but seeing so many of all your beautifully stamped creations has made me determined to finally get to grips with this technique!

A huge English "Thank you" in advance for any help anyone out there can offer!

Love from Alison x:-D

Hi Alison!

You aren't doing anything wrong - you probably need to condition your stamps so the ink stays put better. You can either erase them or do what I did here http://krikeykreations.blogspot.com/...and-fairy.html which is put versamark on them first and then add the marvys.

The stamp set I used is a cling set. HTH

Check out the resources. There should be something there to also help you with coloring your stamps with markers.

Try this one: Misting with Alcohol Markers

According to what I have read about acrylic stamps, there is usually a residue on them left over from the manufacturing process. To removw that residue so that the ink sticks, there are several things you can do to condition the stamps:

1. wash stamps in warm water and a gentle dish detergent
2. rub the surface of the stamps with a white eraser
3. use an emery board (like for your nails) or a VERY fine grade of sandpaper and GENTLY rub the surface of the stamp just until it looks cloudy (not as shiny as when you bought it)
4. use Versafine inks and chalk inks rather than the usual dye inks.

HTH!

The first thing that came to my mind was, what kind of paper are you using? If you are trying to stamp on glossy paper, it will also react that way. I use Staz-on black or brown when I want a detailed stamp to be different colors. Then I use watercolor crayons, colored pencils or markers to fill it in. You can also use a blender pen with the markers so the colors won't be so intense. Hope this helps!

I moved your thread into General Stamping. I'll bet you will get lots of help here.
