Default Weekly Organizational Challenge #5

Hello ladies, and welcome to another challenge.

This week, lets work on all our paper scraps. I know some have allready done this, so carry on with past challenges that you may not of finished.

There are always little its and bits left over from making a card or SB page, and naturally we are lothe to throw them away - we are crafters (and horders ) so we always think - I can use this somewhere, somehow, for some project in the future - dont know when, where, or how, but I 'really' will use it!

...... and it just sits there for a while...... sometimes for a VERY long while........ so long that you forget that you even have it.

So, we are going to do something with those 'its and bits' so we know WHERE they are, and might actually look there first for a little scrap of blue instead of cutting up yet another sheet.

There are many ways of doing this. I found at W*Mart a nice expanding file folder that has 13 dividers that are tabed. I bought one for each color family, and an extra for all my 'other' papers. I cut a strip of cardstock, wrote the name on it, and slipped it into the tab. Then, all the scraps went into that pocket. So easy to find scraps now, and in the right color - dont have to guess between colors anymore.

Some other ideas that I have seen are getting binders with protector sleeves, one for each color, and having one binder for each color family - I suspect some might need 2!

Or giant ziplock bags, one for each color, grouped by color famlies, in vertical files. Some have it with the full sheets of cardstock, some not.

Find what works for you, and post pictures to this thread of your soulution to help others that may be stumbling for ways to organize the 'growing' problem of paper scraps!

Here are the links to the previous weeks challenges:

Week 4 Week 3 Week 2 Week 1

Remember, there are prizes for the first 5 people who complete the bonus challenge in week 3!!! Still some available!

What I have done with scraps is I put them in the same file as the original color. This way if I need a small piece of that color I can go straight there. The paper that I have a problem with is 12 X 12 and non SU paper.

I've done this already with the 1st challenge which I've never posted a picture of, but I will for this one. I bought an expanding file pocket which has a bunch of pockets and put different colors in each one: one for which, off white, yellow, brown, etc.

This is finally a picture of my filing system. I still need to put names on the folders for the different colors.

How did I do this? I actually worked on my scraps a week ago. I spent $.50 (at a dollar store) for a nice coupon holder. I separated the smaller scraps by color groups.

Then I used the expanding folder, about 8 1/2 x 4, for the larger scraps. This works for me.

I have all my full and half sheets of cardstock in file folders. In each file folder, I also have a legal size envelope where I put any scraps of that color. This way everything is in one spot and I always check the envelope for small pieces before cutting into a larger sheet.

Here's a pic of my 8.5x11 paper file system - my label font is a little crazy and it is getting so full it is bending the hanging rods! yes that's wally world paper I use for scraps and non stamped pieces shhh!

I have a rolling paper carrier that has folders for every SU color. I organize them with all the pinks near one another, all the blues near one another, etc. Each folder has the color on the tab and all my scraps just go into the corresponding folder so that I know where everything is. I tried putting my scraps into a different area, but I never got up and looked through it. I think putting them with the original color in the original folder works great!

Will post a photo tomorrow.

I put all my mine in a photo box. It works for me, so I'm leaving them there.

I'm putting mine in Iris drawers by general color family. I do like the idea of putting them in folders with regular size. I could do that! I have more file drawers than I have purposes for. Sounds like a good use for them.

I have all my scraps organized by solid papers and patterned papper organized by size. Size works for me but this system doesn't really. I'm just starting to get stampin up products, I love that everything is organized by color catagory because I always spend most of my time trying to coordinate colors. I think once I have Stampin'up paper I am going to organize by size in color catagories.

I have my scraps organized in an expanding folder as well. I got a folder from Regal with 24 dividers, so this works just nicely. (2 colours per divider with neutrals in the front.) I too have labeled them with the colours in each section. This works very well. I also have a Tupperware box that holds all of the scrap stamped images that I have stamped and not needed. When I'm feeling the need for a card idea, I sometimes go to this box and work from what I have in there.
