I know someone posted instructions awhile back in a watermark thread... I'll see if I can find it.

No, but I could point you in the direction to buy one...that's what I did, but I am somewhat computer challenged! After I bought it, I was almost in tears trying to figure out how to actually get it on my photo's! After a few hours of frustration and a lot of help from here, I did finally get it though!

Hi gals,

Microsoft Publisher is a wonderful software program... so much you can do with it and so easily too! It is a breeze for making digital scrapbook pages. (I used to the be the product manager so I'm a little biased!)

The instructions posted above should do the trick but I wanted to clarify a bit about adding the actual watermark.

You will need to use the WordArt tool. That is the blue 'A' button on the tool bar (not the button that has the letter A in a white box with lines). Type the text that you'd like to have in your watermark and say OK. To get the copyright symbol you need to hold down the Alt key while typing in 0619 (please note that some fonts to not include this symbol). You will then need to select a fill color. A light color (like a soft yellowor light gray) seems to work best. To make this color *transparent* you will need to select "more fill colors". When the dialog box opens you will see a transparency option at the bottom. Slide this over so it is approximately 20%. and say OK.

You can resize the WordArt (your watermark) just by grabbing one of the black handles and dragging it to the size you would like.

Save your file as a JPG file. The default is set to 150dpi which should be fine. The file saved will be the size of the page that you created (standard is 8.5 x 11 for North American users.) If you do NOT have a photo editing software program, you can always set your page size (File, Page Setup) to the desired size and then make your photo the size of the page (like 4" x 6").

Hope this helps!

Just a note to add...some of the older versions of Microsoft Publisher do not have the ability to save the file as a .jpg........if you have an older version just be aware of that. Newer versions - no prob.

Linda, thank you so much for your reply to Karen's question. I have been wanting to do my watermark for a while, and the other process I saw was much too complicated for me!

Yep, I need a LOT of help

Thankyou thankyou....I tried it and I now have a "watermark" that I can use for now.

I think the real photo editing programs seem to look more professional but I'm tickled to have a way to mark my images, till Santa brings me something better to use!

Just a question... so, do I have to paste every pic into publisher now and place the watermark on then save again??? bc I can't seem to get it to paste into MS Picture Manager onto the picture!!!

Also, I couldn't get it to make the copyright symbol at all!!!
(I'm still tickled... 'I got a watermark'... 'I got a watermark!')

Hi Kathy,

Here is a fast and easy solution for your photo watermarking with MS Publisher. MS Picture Manager postdates my experience so I cannot help you with that, sorry!

Create a page that is a custom size for landscape photos (6"w x 4"h) and another one that is a custom size for Portrait photos (4"w x 6"h). Now create a blank picture frame (using the icon that looks like mountains and a sun). Add your watermark over this blank picture frame (use the Arrange, Order, Bring to front command) and save these files as templates to use. Each time you have a photo you would like to watermark, simply open the appropriate template (portrait or landscape) and double-click to insert the picture and voila! Be sure to save as a JPG file when you are done.

Which font are you using for your watermark? If you use a more commonplace font, there should be a copyright symbol. Be sure to hold down the ALT key while typing in 0619 and that should insert the symbol.

HTH,
Linda

Karen,

I'm so glad you were able to make this work.

Now, wanna have some more fun with your watermark?

You can create circular text very easily with the WordArt tool. It doesn't come up as one of the options when you first use word art but once you have created a WordArt object, you should then have a new toolbar on your screen (the WordArt toolbar). There is an icon that looks like a melting A. Click on that and you should have a whole bunch more fun shapes to play with!

Have fun and let's see your new watermark!

For those of you that don't know if you have Microsoft Publisher, be sure to check your list of programs in the Microsoft Office folder... it comes bundled with MS Office Pro. {It is a MS Windows only program.} Otherwise, this program is not expensive and it is by far my favorite software application!

Okay....I must be having a dumb moment. (I'm so glad this thread is here because I was wondering how everyone made these.) When I open MS Publisher, how do I create a custom page to get the 4x6? I get the rest of it, just not that part. I don't see anything to customize... Help!

Kyann: Go to the File menu File and select Page Set Up. One of the size options is custom and just specify the size you want.

Linda*Loo can you come over and give me lessons? I know Publisher has so much more to offer than what I use it for but I just don't know how to do it all. Thanks for the mini lessons.
