I always dislike how the ultrasmooth white and vanilla cardstock kind a feathers when cut with our paper cutter. However, today I accidentally cut 2 sheets at once and it didn't feather! So after experimenting to make sure it wasn't a fluke, i will now cut the white and vanilla paper in layers of 2 whenever possible.
Less time cutting, no more feathering....kinda like getting a little gift ;)
Oh boy, wish I would have seen this post yesterday! I had to cut 80 mats for my Mother for a party invitation she is making and it was annoying the heck out of me that the u/s white was feathering. Thought it was just me, I even went out and bought new blades for my triple track SU cutter, but no luck. I don't use u/s very often so I failed to remember that this happens! Thanks so much for the tip!

I have 2 different cutters (both fiskers) and have never noticed this except for when my blade is dull or if I cut more than five sheets at a time on my big cutter.

Thank you so much for sharing htis info! I have been complaining about my US paper for months! I have switched cutting systems, I replace the blades constantly, I even have blades that are just for the US paper, and when they get rough, I switch them to my color paper. So, I'm very gald to know that 2 sheets is the answer! And Now we can get twice the cutting done! WoOHOO!
I've noticed that my old SU Fiskars cutters (I have 2) don't feather as much but my BRAND NEW Fiskars cutters just new in this year's catty, feathers horriblely every time with the US White.
I can't understand how the old product can work so much better than the new one. Humpgh...

Recycle all of your printer / copy paper and use it when cutting USWhite!! I also hated how the USWhite would shred when I cut it... It is NOT your blade or cutting machine, on the contrary, I do think some packs of USWhite are more likely to shred than others. To have crisp clean edges when you cut your pieces, recycle your white printer paper and put a sheet underneath the USWhite while you are cutting- it really works!!
I read about this from JHRR, and didn't believe it until I tried it. At first I thought, how would another piece of paper make a difference??? But it does!! And, I think it acts as a sort of filler so the USW paper doesn't shred in the groove of your paper trimmer.
I noticed that the white & vanilla were thinner, but I didn'te think it would make that much of a difference. That's why I "recycle" my blades. I use the new ones only on the US paper. When the paper starts to feather, I mark that blade with a "c" so I know to use it only with color paper!

I have 2 Fiskars paper cutters - one is a big one with a rotary blade, the other one is smaller with a rotary blade - I think the smaller one is called something like "Ultimate cutting system" It uses EZ change blades. I've never had a problem with feathering. I have more of a problem with cutting crooked! (Even when I have the paper up against the top I still seem to cut crooked!) I had one like in the old catalog but I didn't like it so I switched.
I have found that the feathering is a lot worse when I cut slow, but if I zip the blade across quite quickly, it's not nearly as bad. I have the new cutter now, and had this cs problem on my new and old fiskar cutters.

I never had the problem with US cardstock feathering except when I use my Fiskars cutter, which is of course the one I keep on hand when demoing! At least now I know how to fix it, or tell my customers to fix it.
