I went through the 46 threads one at a time using the "If you want to unsubscribe to all threads" notice in the e-mail. It did not allow me to unsubscribe to all at once.

To unsubscribe to multiple threads at once: click on your name at the top right of the screen where it says "Welcome, ValH." Scroll down a bit and on the left under "Subscribed Threads" you will see "List Subscriptions." Click on that and it will show a list of every thread you are currently subscribed to.
To the right of each subscriptions is a checkbox. Check the box by each thread you want to unsubscribe.
Then at the bottom right of the list of subscriptions there is a dropdown box that says "Move to Folder" and a button that says "Go." Click on the right to make the box drop down, then click "Delete Subscription" and click Go.
You can check every box or just the ones you want to unsubscribe. That is how I unsubscribe to several threads at once.
As for responding to threads without emails coming in. The only thing I know is to unsubscribe right after replying. There is probably another way but I haven't found it.
