Default Unfortunately I need lots of sympathy cards

Is that one set SU makes the best one? I mean do yall have some other go to sympathy sets? I do love the words in the SU one, but those flowers don't do a ton for me, although I guess I could just use them for an elegant card.

Sympathy is hard for me, I'm way cutsie in my stamping and that won't cut it, then also it's always sad.

Hmmm, I don't know if you would feel this appropriate, but something with religious affiliation, like a cross or other religious symbol? I know this could be a delicate situation with the different denominations and all, but I thought I'd bring it up. I also like swans, or a simple poem or statement in front.

I have done some really nice cards using the flowers from the "Thru the Year" set. Any flowers would do tho. I start with a darker CS, brown, etc, then emboss the flowers in white a few times in the left bottom corner. (Using an open-up/horizontal card). I stamp "In Sympathy" in black on the lower right.
Looks super elegant I think.

Oh Erin...I hope there is no need for one right now. I totally understand. I am cutsie stamping too...I can do elegant, but it takes time and I need to be inspired...and sympathy cards don't usually leave me inspired. I usually use the SU one as I haven't really seen any other really good sympathy sets. (Are all you stamp companies listening???? We would like a sympathy set that is elegant yet simple...and not really flowery...)

Good luck finding a nice set Erin. HUGS

Sorry - I'm not familiar with the set - but always think trees/roads/paths/beaches are good on sympathy - its the muted colours that help. Also, A lovely poem/verse/quote with maybe a ink technique on the card - I have only ever managed one sympathy card though.

I use the Lovely As A Tree set for my sympathy cards. I usually use cream base with either Bordering Blue or Mellow Moss as my only other color. Very soft look. Use either moss ribbon or cream to add.

Hope this helps. My thoughts are with you.

Having lost three membersof my immediate familly, I have received quite a number of cards. IMO everyone is making it harder than it is required. A single layer card with one image and I am thinking of you makes for a very elegant card. The last post on this thread is a very good example.

I need three sympathy cards right now. I'll do my usual pretty flower card and write stuff inside.

I think I will get the SU set though. I really like the messages:
Earth has no sorry that heaven cannot heal -Thomsa Moore
and
Your loved one will always be as close as a memory, and hte God of all comfort as close as a prayer.

If a person is not religious I can just use the "With heartfelt Sympathy" one.

I'm gonna go look in the gallery, I bet all you talented ladies have made that strange looking flower look cool.

*I'm freaked out by solid type images like that*

Ditto...A simple card with a simple "I'm thinking of you" expression is very nice.

Also, I've found that making sympathy cards for a stash is much easier than making them as they're needed....just for future reference...

I think the sympathy cards I've made with Heartfelt Thanks have been well received; that and Easy Elegance; pretty much any single flower stem alwasy looks pretty; I agree w/a previous poster; simple is better!

Oh and I actually feel blessed to need so many. If I didn't love so many people then I wouldn't be able to be there for them when they had a need. You can't have more love without more ache. But the blessings of knowing and loving people are well worth the heartache.

I've been using a sillouette type stamp by Hero Arts "lupine" and then either "thinking of you" or just writing a message inside.

I'm gonna put the Close as a Memory on my list though, I might have to get it.

I've used many of the SU sets for sympathy cards, but really do like the words in the current set. I've used lighthouses, ships, shells and trees for men; flowers and pastoral scenes for women; crosses and doves/angels for religious cards and elegant elements or some other set that looks nice but has no real meaning for either/or. Hope this helps.
Shalom,
Gail

My favorite Sympathy card was created by mamakimberly and it uses the stamp set Roses in Winter... Here it is...

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...=0&thumbcheck=

I've also used this card as 75th birthday invitations (stamped "your invited" instead of "with sympahy") and made matching thank-yous (stamped "thank you" on the front)...

This would also be a very beautiful birthday card...

It's a great card, just change the greating on the front...

Enjoy!!!

You will NOT believe this. Sense I posted I need two more!

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm in the Close as a memory gallery and getting nice ideas. I think I'm going to stick with simple and elegant.

Also I'm gonna make like 20 of them.

Hi Erin, Close as a Memory is one of those sets I kept putting off buying and now I will. I had to make 4 sympathy cards already this year, sad isn't it? It's just not a set I wanted to buy, even though I liked it...I guess I'd been hoping never to have a need for it. I ended up rummaging through my sets to make do until I finally get it and made the ones I needed immediately and a couple extra....

Anyway, here's what I came up with:

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=37719

I hope you don't have a need for all 20 anytime soon............

I'm sorry to hear that you need to make so many sympathy cards........sad.

I like to use Lovely As A Tree for male sympathy cards and pretty much any flower for female cards.

I recently bought these great sentiments for sympathy cards: http://impression-obsession.com/Merc...gory_Code=CLGR

Erin- I got the With Sympathy set from TAC- it had lots of different sayings so I have one for most sympathy occasions. Then I just use any floral or leaf set that I have on hand.

I'm so sorry to hear you have need for these

I often use pressed leaves or flowers, combined with stamping on sympathy cards. Or garden photos & stamping. Here are some I made:

Here's a smypathy card I made with the Time Well Spent set -- not really one you'd think of to make a sympathy card with, but I think it turned out well.

Try making a few "uncute" cards ahead of time. Don't need to be specific about whether you will use them for sympathy, birthday or just a note. Then when you need one you do not need to try to be creative in the middle of your sadness.

I love Close as a Memory, and use those flowers for lots on non-sympathy cards. I'm also a big fan of Lovely as a Tree for sympathy cards. I think anything works really, as long as it is not super bright colors and lots of bling.

Here's some of my faves from my gallery:

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=38298
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=38298
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=38298

Good luck....many find sympathy cards hard to make. It's really nice to have a stash for when you need them.

Artfully Asian makes a beautiful sympathy card if you have a sentiment stamp. Sorry for your loss...... last year was like that for me. I was never so happy to see a new year begin.

A standard sympathy card in my box is Lovely As A Tree. I usually do earthtones polished stone then use stazon to stamp the tree's in the center. I add a ribbon and sentiment.. it's beautiful, simple and heartfelt.

Sorry you need so many..

I LOVE the sentiments from Close As A Memory, but I like the flowers a little less, so I made this sympathy card for my cousin using the sentiments from Close As A Memory and the new Morning Soft flowers. (which I also LOVE!!)

Erin, I agree absolutely that you can't have more love without more ache - it's a beautiful way to look at it.

Solid flower images can look great, even if you find them a little odd to work with initially. I recently got the Cornish Heritage Farms Silhouette Blooms I set (which includes a simple 'with sympathy' sentiment) and one of the first things I did with it was make a sympathy card for stash - you can see it here on my blog. I agree with previous posters that it's easier to make these when you don't have an immediate need for them.

I just got Lovely as a Tree on eBay and I'm expecting to use that too when it gets here so it's good to see so many people say they find it a useful set for sympathy cards.

I've been lifting Papermoon04's idea, using Bravo Burgundy or Night of Navy and 'with sympathy' or 'thinking of you' as the stamped message.

(I've been needing a lot lately too.)

I have 2 sympathy SU sets that I use all the time for sympathy cards. I do have the current Close As A Memory and I have the retired Peace And Comfort. Sometimes I just use the flowers from both sets and leave the insides blank to write in.
Any flower or nature scene works for sympathy cards also so you really do not need a stamp set of them. You can also buy the Spmathy verses separate form many companies

My favorite set is Best Blossoms. Not sure if it is retired or not. I usually start with a one sheet wonder, and use the rock n roll technique. I pray the Lord will use you to comfort and bless your loved ones.
God bless.

Default Sympathy Cards

I make lots of sympathy cards for my church's prayer ministry as well as for myself somtimes. Some are simple and some more complex. I always use a single image like a lacey fern or flower, a verse with a stamped off cross behind it, etc. I also have cards for miscarriages and loss of baby in my gallery if you ever need them. Definitely best to make those ahead. Here are some of my favorites in my gallery.

uses CTMH Praying Hands and a beautiful verse from Morning Star Stamps:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Northwoods Fern:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Best Blossoms:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Fantastic Foilage:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...1476?nocache=1

uses Watercolor Garden II
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Art of Life (OLC, was a funeral thank you, would need to change sentiment):
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Anna Griffin (OLC) maybe use different sentiment:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Art of Life (I send cards like this maybe a month later or you could change the sentiment):
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Toile Blossoms (change sentiment):
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses Fashion Statement (miscarriage card):
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

uses I'm Here (loss of baby or miscarriage):
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=52833

Hope these help someone.
