Tired of getting only bills and junk in you mailbox? Join our RAK group!
The Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) group is a group that has members running to the mailbox everyday! Instead of the dreaded bills, there are nice surprises that put smiles on your face. There is only one requirement to belong to RAK: if you receive a card, post a thank-you. Otherwise, it is completely up to you how much or how little you decide to do.
HOW RAK WORKS
Pick a name at random off the member list and send a card. On the envelope write SCS-RAK.
Also, any RAK member can request a RAK for sick kids/friends, someone whose family member has died or someone just in need of some happy mail.
There are also several sub-forums, all of which are completely voluntary:
Weekly RAK Challenges,
Welcoming Committee,
Birthday Committee and
Wish RAK
The Weekly RAK Challenge is a fun way to generate ideas for sending out truly random raks. Each week a new challenge is posted. You can do the current challenge or any older challenge. For example, the very first challenge was to take at least two letters from your FIRST name and send out a RAK to someone whose LAST name begins with that same letter (using the RAK membership list you will have access to once your membership is completed). If you want to do that you can but it's completely up to you. You can do as many or as few as you want, whenever you want.
The Welcoming Committee sends out RAKS to our new members. Once the RAK coordinators set up new memberships, we post the list of newbies in the RAK forum. The members of the welcoming committee make sure our newbies all get at least one RAK. There is a thank-you thread in that sub-forum for posting your thanks when you get your first RAK.
The Birthday Committee is similar to the welcoming committee only they send out Birthday RAKs (BRAKs) to our members. There is a thank-you thread under that sub-forum as well specifically for BRAK cards.
Then there is the wish-RAK sub-group. This is also completely voluntary but does require an additional membership request (once your general RAK membership is created). Wish-RAK is an awesome sub-group. It gets a little complicated but the general idea is that you send stamped images (or embellishments, paper, ink ,etc) to other members. It was originally formed to send stamped images from SU! set(s) on quarter sheets (4 1/4 inch x 5 1/2 inch) to share with other members within this group. Since its conception....brads, eyelets, prima flowers, die cuts, ribbon, designer paper, cardstock, punch wishes and other stamp manufacturers have been allowed as a WISH. You get to make 3 wishes for "free" to start with (things you would like to receive). Then for every wish that you fulfill, you earn another wish for yourself. There are a bunch of rules about what is acceptable quality paper, ink etc. If you join wish-RAK there are several posts and an excel file that contains all the rules. Wish-RAK also has weekly "challenges" and special exchanges (about once every 2 months).
HOW TO JOIN RAK
Go to you user control panel (one way to get there is to click on your username at the very top right corner). On the left side you'll see the control panel. Scroll down about 8 from the top to the Group Memberships link and click on it. A list of groups to join will be displayed. To join the RAK group, click on the Join Group radio button (circle in the right most column) and then click on the Join Group button. It will ask you why you want to join. Enter a little something. Then comes the hardest part.... WAITING.
RAK memberships (general RAK, not wish-RAK) are processed twice a month. There are 2 volunteers who take turns processing the new requests. Twice a month we go through the list of people who have requested membership. We send out a PM requesting the remainder of the info we need to complete the membership and ask everyone to respond in one week. Then it takes us several hours to update all the files, post them to the RAK forum and officially "turn on" the memberships (which is when you will be able to see the RAK forum and sub-forums). We will also send you another PM letting you know that your RAK membership has been enabled.
Please feel free to PM me with any questions about RAK.
I am an RAK member, but I have to be honest I find it very confusing and I still can't figure things out. Especially the wish RAK, I've just about given up on trying to participate because I can't figure it out.
Thanks Stacy and Tina! I didn't know that there were mentors to help me. I often time see things on someone's wish list and I have it, but like I said I don't understand the process in regards to opening and closing wishes and how the wishes are numbered.

Patty by now one of our wonderful Wish RAK Mentors has contacted you and has answered some or all of your questions.

Thanks for asking about Wish RAK.

Wish RAK Mentor Coordinator
Yep, Stacy has been such a big help. She's been so wonderful and answered all of my questions. She helped me figure out how to participate and I even mailed out 10 wishes on Saturday
I found that you really have to walk through it and give it a try to understand it better.
Bumping for Kerry and to look for some new members of the BRAK--Birthday Random of Kindness Group.
You need to be a member of the RAK forum in order to be a member of the BRAK, so PM Kerry to get set in the RAK and then check out the BRAK thread in the RAK forum to join us!
Thanks for considering joining--it is so rewarding!
I joined, just waiting to be added. I can't wait. Love sending cards to people. When we are added will there be an email stating so and with directions? thank you, Jaime

Jamie--yes, you will get info from the RAK coordinators on what to do next. Then, if you want to join the BRAK, there is a sub-forum on that with more information too.
Awesome!

I've been a member of Wish RAK for three years now. It's such a great way to get images you want but also to get use out of stamps you already have and making other people happy. I definitely recommend this group. It's great that you posted this info Kerry.
God demonstrated His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us ... being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Romans 5:8 & 9
I don't have alot of stamps, can you still join? Does it take alot of time?
Absolutely you may join! It is totally up to you how much you do. There is really only one rule in RAK (general RAK group) and that is to post a thank-you when you receive a card. Other than that, you can send as few or as many cards whenever it suits you.
The sub-groups and committees (like wish-RAK) do require more involvement, but those are optional. You don't have to join any of the sub-groups (unless you decide you want to do so). For the committees (birthday RAK, welcoming committee) you can state how many cards you want to send each month.
So sorry to delay so long in answering. I haven't checked this thread in quite a while.
To join a group, click on your username.
In the left column, about 8 down click on the link for Group Membership.
In the next window, in the far right column, click the radio button (open circle) in the row for the RAK Group.
Click the Join Group button below the list of groups available to join.
It will ask you to fill in a reason. There's no right/wrong answer (we don't use it, I think it's just to prevent spam robots from trying to enroll).
Then comes the hard part - - waiting. You'll get a PM from myself or Amy, the other RAK coordinator, with further info/instructions the next time we process requests (usually twice a month).
Kerry

Anyone, regardless of experience, is welcome to join. I see you on the list of people requesting to join so you obviously found the membership area/join button.
Please feel free to ask any questions. If you have questions about the RAK group feel free to send me a PM. While I'm also happy to try to answer questions about general stamping, you'll get a lot of great and varied feedback if you post a question in the general forum.
You can post a request in this thread. Note that only members of the RAK group will be able to follow that link; others will get a permission denied type of message.
Just signed up too! Looking forward to getting involved. In my 'reason for joining' I asked for more info. I found this thread and found what I need for now. TIA
