Default Thoughts on gift tags...???

Hi everyone!

I LOVE to make gift tags. So, of course, I have been making Christmas ones. BUT here is my question for all of you. Do you feel like your tags need to match your wrapping paper or gift bag? I am making myself crazy with this! Either the colors aren't quite right or the theme is not the same or the paper is cutesy and my tags are vintagey.....Your thoughts?

If it's a pretty tag, I don't care whether they match or not! I've been recycling the same gift tag on DH's main gift for a couple of years now, regardless of the wrapping paper. But this year I can't find it, sniff.
You could always just go for plainish paper, and then it would be less of a dilemma ;-).

I love to make tags that match the paper. I'm lucky to have about a trillion Christmas stamps to choose from to make just the right one. Every year a friend hosts a "Wine and Wrap" party that everyone brings their gifts, some paper and ribbon, and a dinner item and we have a blast all night. I set up a tag station and every gift goes home with a custom tag, no stick-ons for us!

I am OCD with tags and paper even when I don't make them :-) I have a million tags so I can try to match with my papers so yeah, when I try to make them I do make them match. Usually it's at the last minute lol! :-)

Good idea, cheap and great for the environment. You can also stamp on them (bold patterns or even just polka dots look great, or things like pinecones...)

Way back in the 1970's when I was in high school, the ecology movement was huge. My BFF's mother wrapped all the gifts in newspaper (b&w) or the Sunday comic pages (had color). She used only red bows and ribbons. Boy did that pile of gifts, all wrapped in newspaper, look fantastic under the tree.

It's funny you should say that because I was JUST thinking that same thing! Especially with printed paper being so big in mixed media right now - my tags are all mixed media. I bet it would look amazing with gifts wrapped in newsprint or brown paper bags and then tied with garden twine or bakers twine - also all the rage and then topped with handmade tags....My daughter would hate it but it is tempting.......

I love making tags, as well, but don't have nearly enough gifts to put them on. I've already done all of my Christmas decorating for this year (the day after Thanksgiving), but next year I'm going to have a "tag tree" - using all of my lovely tags as ornaments. As far as matching tags to gift wrap: yeah, I'm kind of OCD like that...

I love making cards and tags but I am so relaxed with the whole thing that I never even think of the wrapping till the last minute. I never care if it matches cause I am happy with the card or tag as they are. Must admit I do more cards than tags and since they go in envelopes it doesnt matter as much (too me).

i don't feel that my tags need to be super matchy with the paper but i like them t coordinate style and color wise.
i've noticed that most years christmas paper coordinates very nicely with SU crd stock which makes it quite easy as far as colors go. I sometimes have a slightly more challenging time finding stamps that coordinate as well as the colors do but generally speaking
i maintain a relaxed atitude about it

I dont do matchy matchy... but, I tend to on my personal papers go with natural ones or ones that are red, green, kraft, with some gold. and maybe some cream. or Poinsettias...

so, my tags that I keep for personal use tend to use the same types of things. I have also recycled tags that are personalized with first letters of given names of my family since we all have different lettered names.

I go solid on the paper, then no matter what the tag can go along with the ribbons or anything else I use. It's the way I omit the OCD "It doesn't match"...... I especially like gold paper and Kraft paper.

I love making Kraft paper wrapping paper with a stamp.

We did this with White Butcher paper and I have a Happy Hanukah stamp that I stamped it in blue all over. It was really prettier than anything I could find at the store. Matching tags and all!! lol

I picked up a couple of rolls of Kraft paper with white snowflakes at an office supply store at the end of one Christmas season and that worked great with just about all my tags last year.

Tags don't have to match the wrapping, but should at least "go" well with it

Default Kraft paper idea

Enjoyed reading all the posts, Just have to share. We got a new Marshall's store, finally. I stopped and they have the most awesome rolls of kraft wrapping paper $2.99 great for wrapping, tags, cards, etc. I picked up one that was vintage advertising signs.OMG love it but they had so many more, my head was spinning with ideas, Just thought I would share. they also have some scrapbooking/cardmaking stuff. I found an American Crafts 6x6 Christmas slab and it has been so fun making cards with it $2.99
I love the idea of the tag tree for next year.

While I'm not a tag maker one of my stamping groups just got together for their annual Christmas dinner/night out/tag exchange. I came home with 15 different tags and they are so cute and unique! I decided when I saw all these cute tags that I'm getting a little tree still this year to hang them on. A tag tree is a good idea.

So, do you all of you save the tags or do they go in the garbage? I can't bear the thought of making all those tags and then they get thrown out, so I don't make tags.

I am not a big fan of tags at all. Although for last weeks F4A challenge I did make tags out of various shapes of die cuts.

I just buy the peel and stick name stickers for my gifts.

I always have good intentions to make pretty tags, but reality sets in and its a tag out of white or cream cardstock, punched out with the ornament punch. maybe next year...

I make them while I'm being held captive at swim meets. They are a small enough project to fit on my lap and I don't need to take a lot of supplies. I often don't even stamp but just hand draw holly, pine boughs, etc. Here's a picture I took with my phone on Saturday. I did take along a couple of punches that time and even used some shimmer spray!

I try to make my tags match. Not necessarily the images of the tags and the paper, but the colours.
This year for example my gift wrap is all silver/white/purple. SO my tags are also silver/white and purple.
However, if I were to receive a gift the and the tag doesn't match it wouldn't bother me at all. I would love any handmade tag! And you can bet I would keep it!

I just have fun making tags. I don't think anyone will notice they don't match, so I don't try. Too much of a hassle, I want to have fun crafting. The minute I get a headache because nothing is turning out right, all crafting stops!

I love making tags, and I do it for my own enjoyment.
My mother and sister get the most elaborate ones because I know they will keep them.
I have a large box full of elaborate gift tags I keep to my self, i know is very selfish of me, but when I spend hours cutting small pieces and assembling them, I'll be very upset knowing they will be tossed in the dust bin.

The less elaborate tags go to everyone else.

Yes, my tags match the paper. HOWEVER, I buy paper that would match my stamps and ink colours! So, no metallic papers for me! I also buy economy spools of ribbon from ReasonableRibbon.com (and I also make sure to buy wrapping paper that matches the colours of ribbon that I have). So everything matches. I love wrapping. This is the only time of year when card-making takes a back seat. I wrap all my co-workers' presents - all the gifts they buy and don't want to wrap.

I've seriously considered only buying solid wrapping paper - white, kraft and red. That pretty much would cover any eventuality!

Oh, they must match for me---color and theme, if there is one. I like solid paper, or maybe stripes or spots. We moved this year and somehow inherited a HUGE roll of wrapping paper---red with white dots. So they are the colors I have been using, along with silver and gold. The theme can be just about anything. The roll is so big, however, I won't be able to use it up in my lifetime and will get bored with it. I will be giving lots of it away, so I can do a different color scheme in the future.

I don't worry about it at all. Mine don't match if they are homemade or purchased.

We also recycled all our newspapers and brown grocery bags. The Sunday comics were saved specifically for gift wrapping (and not just Christmas presents). It looks terrific with brightly colored ribbon. We also used brown grocery bags for gift wrap (and a million other things) because it was sturdy and fun to decorate. I think that's why I love kraft cardstock so much.

For store bought wrapping paper, I coordinate my handmade tags but they don't have to match exactly. As long as the colors coordinate nicely and the styles are similar, I think it looks fine.

I'm a "who-cares-if-they-match" kind of gal. The last couple of years I have been fortunate enough to find licensed character giftwrap in characters the small fry in the family are fond of. I do not have licensed stamps to match! I make tags when I feel like it, using whatever shapes, colours and Christmas paper I'm in the mood to. When I wrap, I sit down with the pile of tags and just pull one out of the pile & attach.
However.......... when I have more than one gift for the same person, all gifts for said person must have the same paper and identical (if possible) or similar tags.

I always save the copious amounts of paper that Stampin Up pack their boxes with an use that to wrap presents with.
This year I've wrapped all the Christmas presents in it and have done a belly band with some actual Christmas paper and used a kraft tag on the pressies. Looks good
