Default Thomas Kinkade stamps is anyone else overwhelmed???

I bought two Thomas Kinkade stamps and I am completly overwhelmed by them. There is NO way, I could ever color these in. I think I am going to put them up for sale. If anyone is in the market let me know.

I had the same thought about trying to color them so I haven't ordered any. They are also very pretty for making monochromatic cards. For example, stamp it in blue or burgundy and mat it using coordinating cardstock. No coloring involved! Since you have them already, experiment a little before you part with them. Good luck.

and they are great in lots of different ink/paper combos. Even black and white is stunning.

I feel the same way and because of that, I haven't purchased any...but I want the lighthouse stamp so bad. I was at a 'Adventures in Stamping' this weekend and they had them (not the newly released) and I debated for a long time, then walked away. Now that I have read just using one color and matting, I think I will take the plunge. Thanks for this thread, it helped me out, hopefully you will use and enjoy your stamps.

I felt this way at first and when I got my first three it took me over a month to even put ink on them.... And then two weeks to try and color them and finially get an image colored I liked.

I can honestly say that entry was the first time I saw the possibilities in the TK stamps and felt that the average stamper (ie me) might be able to create something worthwhile with them.

The owner of my LSS had a really nice sample she'd done. She told me the trick was to stamp on vellum and color on the wrong side. I tried that and though I'm not completely satisfied, it wasn't bad. Of course, I agree that monochromatic is gorgeous.

Thanks for linking me Tandra! I also found using pastels for a subtle coloring was quick and try using silver Brilliance ink...it gave a different look with no coloring...

Tandra, thanks for mentioning me! I LOVE the look of these stamps when stamped monochromatically! Here is a lighthouse set I made for Jay's aunt. It's my favorite project so far. Very simply stamped and understated, I can see myself duplicating this one using various TK images.

I'm voting with the monochromatic crowd. That is the only way I would use these stamps. They are beautiful, but I do good to use my Prismacolors once in a while. I just love the mono look with the TK stamps.

Hi I'm gonna chime in here. I tried to color a Kinkade for the very first time today with my copics. It actually turned out well. Just let the stamp be your guide for you lights and darks. Where there are extra lines is where there should be deeper colors.

Here is the one I did:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...ge=2#poststart

I was really happy for a first try! But the awesome stamps need to take most of the credit!

Yes, try them in single, solid colors without any coloring after you've stamped the image! They're amazing stamped this way!! Add a dab of glitter for sparkle, and WOW... SOOOO fun!

this is how i did mine----

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...&ppuser=126455

glossy paper and stazon is what i used

here's another one i used cracked glass tech for this one.

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...&ppuser=126455

i found that there really wasn't much to color, most of the shading was done for u.

BTW, I haven't given up on coloring these images. I've made two attempts. The first was a disaster because I stamped the image on the smooth side of textured paper and attempted to color it in with pencils. A major duh moment when the texture transferred to the image itself -- and not in a nice way!

The second attempt I also used prismacolor pencils and it came out ok. Not wonderful, but decent enough that I am going to cover it with vellum (!), stamp Merry Christmas on the vellum and be good to go. Vellum can cure many ills!

I just need to find that version. It's somewhere. Buried!

I used prisma colored pencils on mine and they looked like a three year old had colored them. I will have to try the mono look too and see if I can like them better. I REALLY wanted them to look like Thom had colored them himself!

Thumbs up

Asela Hopkins, who is a MASTER of colored pencils, did a wonderful tutorial on her blog featuring a Kinkade image. It's broken down into very clear steps and I have heard that many girls have been successful following her teaching!
