WOW those are gorgeous stamps. I'm not super font of the Kincaid paintings either but those stamps are just to die for! I would have so much fun playing with those. Too bad I can't afford to buy any more stamp goodies for a few months!

I just ordered "it doesn't get much better, vignette",
'Village Christmas Vignette',
'Foxglove Cottage Vignette'
I love the sample of Village Christmas stamped in blue onto white with blue background. I can do that! lol
I am going to try and color the other two and hope for the best but I am not real confident either. But I have to give it a try becuase they are beautiful.

Someone asked if you could get them unmounted- I think that CHF said No- as part of the package is the beautifully colored sticker on the back of the wood block.
As for me, I haven't ordered- but they would be excellent for Christmas cards. They are definetly fairly priced and MAN OH MAN is the design team fabulous. You'd think Thomas Kinkade himself had colored each of those samples. WOW. I'd have to go monochromatic though, as mine would never be like that at all- which is one of the reasons I have held off.

I found on the website that the TK stamps are available only as wood-mounted. I would really like to have the option to purchase unmounted, like other CHF stamps. That is one of the features that drew me to their website in the first place.

I'm with those who don't like Thomas Kinkade stuff at all, but those stamps are incredible. I'm trying to keep away from the website because I don't need to spend any more money!

That would be a nice option! Unfortunately, that is not possible due to the licencing agreement with the Thomas Kinkade Company.

Beautiful Kincade images and beautiful samples. I would not have the patience for coloring them, though. So, I'll pass and just admire everyone esle's work.

I really like the vignettes- but it seems like the main image would be more versatile. Does everyone else think it would be fairly easy to use an oval cutter or coluzzle to cut the vignette out of the main stamp after it is colored? They are just the same thing without the edges, right- or is the sizing different on those?

I would agree with those of you who normally don't enjoy TK paintings. But I do like the stamps. And I was extremely awed by the work in the gallery. I might not be able to color them in like some were, but I think I could do some of the resist work and tone on tone things that they did. Clearly good detail in the stamp......Haven't ordered any, but probably will.

The one thing that I have been "weirded out" about TK is that he is everywhere. My brother bought one of his prints and they told him that in 3 years it would be worth much more than what he paid but by the time he was selling all kinds of things - everywhere! So the uniqueness wasn't there. You could get his stuff from Avon! So that was discouraging and I don't own anything by TK. That being said, I love these stamps! I think they are so beautiful and I am hoping that with practice, recipients of my cards will be thrilled.

Yes! I used the Long Oval template by Coluzzle on this sample and it worked perfectly:
http://forums.cornishheritagefarms.c...+V+SH.jpg.html
If for some reason the above link doesn't work, here it is on my blog:
http://paperfections.typepad.com/pap...-the-big-.html
Just try not to ink the outside rectangle when stamping the image -- some of those lines still showed with my first try at cutting with the Coluzzle.
HTH!

Christy, it looks like the Giga Scalloped Oval would frame them beautifully. I didn't think about the scalloped with I did my Prayer Journal here:
http://forums.cornishheritagefarms.c...+V+SH.jpg.html
or on my blog: http://paperfections.typepad.com/pap...-the-big-.html
I tried the Megal plain oval and it was too small. Hum, maybe I *need* that Gigal oval now, LOL!
But I found the Long Oval template from Coluzzle to fit perfectly (which is what I used on the above sample).
I HTH!

There was a whole lawsuit over this - if I remember, he sold several franchise galleries and people had to sell at a certain price then he liscensed out and basically undercut his own galleries, many couldnt survive and shut down and sued - it is a lot more complicated and detailed I would have to google it lol

I was so thrilled to see the links yesterday morning, My MIL is a HUGE fan and has two of the paintings... so we peeked at work and ended up splurging. ( even if she never stamps hers they are gonna go on the wall as ART for her stamp room ) I ended up ordering both the fishing ones. (cant think of the name off the top of my head) but, i do have one CHF stamp ( the chicken wire background) and it is a high quality stamp, so i don't have any worries on that front.

Hi Kim! I haven't done the Prisma coloring (yet), but I had very good luck with stamping the Foxglove Cottage image on cardstock vellum with Brilliance Graphite Black and then coloring on the back with SU! markers. Here's a closeup of my suncatcher:
http://forums.cornishheritagefarms.c...seup1.jpg.html
I hope that helps to enable you.

As an art historian, I agree with you. It's a bit kitchsy for my taste. And Kincade rarely does the work now--the underpaid apprentices who work under him do the lion's share of it (which is not unlike what was done in the studios of the old masters). Or the work is reproduced onto a canvas, then "touched up" with oil paint to make it look like an original, then sold for more than many better artists' original pieces. If you like original art, visit your local gallery and support a local artist. It's probably cheaper and the artist who is selling it is probably the person who actually made the art.

One of my professors in college called this genre "Toilet Paper Painting" because one of the ways of getting all those tiny leaves on the trees is by stippling with TP.
While I'm not fond of TK in general (the whole look has become a bit hackneyed), as a draftsman, he's very good and that's all I need...I can add my own coloring to the stamps and end up with something beautiful.

An addendum to my earlier post...
I have to add that I don't mean to offend anyone who is buying the stamps--your works of art with the stamped images will probably be more original than his paintings that inspired the stamps (ironic, huh?). And because they're so easily reproduced, they'll probably make great stamp images. So my rant was not at the stamp buyers, but at the artist himself. Hope no one is offended at my dislike of the artist. Or the way he makes (or doesn't make) his art. But I can't wait to see what you guys do with the stamps.

No offense taken! Personally, I prefer Charles Burchfield, but you can find rubber stamps of HIM! Now there's a man who knew how to make light coming out of a house evocative!

You should email CHF- if they hear it enough, they might add this.
(That's why I never buy the house mouse stamps in the stores. Even though I can SEE the rubber- the colored label makes me realize I will NEVER get it to look like that)

I'm afraid, however, that I won't be able to pull off anything near as nice as the design team. I'm not fishing for compliments, I'm being realistic. I don't use colored pencils (tried) and my shading is pretty weak!! So, at the moment I hate to invest in these and then make pale comparisons.
I did see some beautiful monochromatic samples (smart marketing LOL) but I would want to be able to color them.
|
When viewing the on-line samples, I found that the monochromatic samples were my favorites. I mean...who are we fooling? We can't get them to color just like TK would. And the monochromatic ones are so beautiful. That's how I would do them. I still haven't decided if I am going to place an order yet. Probably, but not sure which ones.

So, I don't know if I am the only one, but know I am the first to admit it. I bought the entire series of TK stamps early Friday morning (can't beat a 20% discount)!
I felt scared looking at the gallery and wondering if I could produce such beautiful work. I decided to challenge myself with these stamps - I love coloring and these are the greatest coloring stamps I have seen.
Also, I love TK and his work. I don't care that it's sometimes produced by others. This allows his work to be purchased by more people (because not all of us can spend thousands of dollars on a painted) and enjoyed by more people. I think the message he is portraying in his art is one that everyone can appreciate whether or not you like his work.
