Default Are they going to stop selling these?

Are they going to stop selling Sargent Coloring pencils? I noticed our Walmart clearanced them out, and they are reduced for sale at Hobby Lobby too. Those and Prismacolors are some of my favorite coloring pencils!

I hope not. I know they are beloved.

I am so throwing this thread off. I hope it's ok. My DH bought a big set of Seargent with the double colors. He gave me all the doubles. I played with them the first time just this week. I had soooo much trouble. They would not behave. This is my medium.

I know they are great pencils. Any tips or tricks? It could have been my paper. I was using a Dollar Tree coloring book.

I haven't tried them in a coloring book. I have just colored images on card stock. I like that I can take a coloring stump or tortillion and smooth the color out; smoothing out the lines or streaks. With some of my coloring pencils, I have learned to use a lighter touch. I have one set that by using a lighter touch, I get one color, and when I press harder, it gives me a darker color, so it's like getting two colors in one. When I did color in a coloring book, I liked to also use gel pen over them, and smooth the gel ink over it with my finger; makes it look brighter and prettier.
I have one set that I bought that I am not sure I like. It's an inexpensive Faber Castell set. I'm going to try to work with them one more time, but I didn't care as much for them. It's funny how one person will love one product, and another won't like them at all; just a difference in preference I guess.
I know some people like Crazy-Art pencils; I didn't care as much for them. And it has nothing to do with cost, as I like getting a bargain.
I have noticed that all of my coloring books have different papers; I hope that's all that is causing you the trouble. I have copied some pages onto card stock before, just to make them easier to color.

As for discontinuing? Maybe in the stores that you mentioned. Walmart shows them as an online item, no sign of it going away. Amazon and Dick Blick carry them. Sargent Art is a big company that sells a lot of different art supplies.

Around my area, the teachers put Crayola colored pencils on the school supplies list so maybe that would spur some of the stores taking Sargent off their shelves.

DeeAnn, I might have been having the same problem as you did with the Sargent pencils. I tried the Faber Castell's on images on different paper today, and they worked quite well. So I am happy I can work with them. They seemed to do better on the smoother paper, while some of my other ones like a paper with more tooth.

Thank you hoptownracer1. I really appreciate it. I was wondering if it was paper quality. I know it was a Dollar Tree coloring book. I am going to scan in the pages and try coloring on better paper.

Sargent has always made lovely coloring tools. I knew it had to be paper or user error problem or both. I love the idea of using a tortillion to color with them. I usually do pencil shading or blender pencil. I swear some color pencils work better with one blending tool over another.

I love CraZArt. When I got back into stamping that was my first coloring tool I bought just for stamping. I think I am attached because of sentimentality. I got a big box of the beautiful eraser set tonight. I want to sketch with them.

Maybe they are going to change the packaging, so the stores are trying to sell off what they have in the old packaging.

I have even seen stores marked something as 'discontinued' and then start selling it again later and Nothing has changed so who knows.

It must have a lot to do with paper, as I colored an image with them them the other night, and it turned out terrible, and I've loved them on other projects. Go figure!

It does! I have found that tooth/no tooth thing definitely varies from pencil to pencil.

You think you've forgotten how to color!

Exactly!!! I colored some images with them last night, and they were awesome! That was how I felt the other night though; disgusted, as I thought I at first it was me. Then I remembered.
