I got really excited when i first saw this, thinking Hey SU is finally putting stuff on sale!!!! Then I read the whole thing and of course there is a catch!!!! U have to spend 30 bucks first!!! Which really equates to 33 bucks plus tax then u add on the sale items and the 10% mark up and more sales tax and what started off being a good deal has just become expensive!!!! Dang and I really wanted a couple of the sets too!!!

Shipping is either $3.95 or 10% whichever is more. Su's shipping charges are actually very reasonable compared to may other companies that I know from.
I do understand your frustration though about having to spend 30$ to get 30% off. I too wish it was just the % off without strings attached. (Like that awesome special they had a few years back when Lovely as a Tree was half price)
Go in with a friend! My Mom and I are in a stamp club together and we have to spend $30 a month anyway, so we'll just combine our order this time. We'll have our minimum with her order of a stamp set in the mini, then we'll be able to purchase the sale sets to round our order up to the $60 we need to spend!
Find a friend and take advantage of this great deal. (I'm not a demo, just a happy customer.)

the S&H charge. Why isn't a flat rate like other companies?
Can you clarify which companies are a flat rate?
TAC is 6.95 minimum, then 10% after $69.50
CTMH I dont know
SU is 3.95 minimum then 10% after 39.50
Taste of home is 10%
Pamp. Chef is ??
Many catalogs I get are variable rates on whatever you purchase amt is.
Papertrey is free after $40-45
ATRS-??
I wish most companies were as inexpensive as SU! shipping!

LOL! Now this is a great way to look at the negative side of something!
You can spend $30 and get ALL of the sets at the discount. If you want TWO of any set, you do have to spend another $30.
I think it's an awesome promotion.
And I don't think it's fair to toss in shipping as part of the cost, in comparing it to a promotion. That's like me throwing in the cost of gas to drive to Michael's to get something on sale!

Here is the shipping for Taste of Home Entertaining. As much as I love their products, the shipping is much higher than SU. They have only been in business for just over a year and have already raised the shipping rates. Their monthly specials are always the same - purchase $29.96 at regular price and you can get the discounted product (usually one item at half price). After all, the goal of a sale is to get you to buy more, not to give away the store
$0 -$24.99 $6.00
$25.00 -$49.99 $7.50
$50.00 -$74.99 $9.00
$75.00 -$99.99 $10.00
$100.00 -$149.99 $15.00
$150.00 -$199.99 $20.00
Over $200.00, add $5.00 for each
additional $50.00
Wow! This is great as my daughter is the hostess for this month's stamp club meeting, so maybe more of these sets may sell. I didn't plan on buying anything from the mini but I will definitely get the Stem Silhouettes now!
I guess it's no different than shopping in a store that has a buy one item at regular price get one time at % off. We shop like this all the time...only problem is that with SU we are all so addicted and want everything that we would prefer no "catches" LOL
In retail stores they have loss leaders all the time. These are items drastically marked down to the point that the store will take a bath on profits, but the point is to get you in the store so you will buy more stuff!
Of course, you can stroll in and out with just the item that's on sale, but few people do this because you always have some other stuff on your shopping list that you need to get at the same time. And then there is the stuff you see that you decide you need to buy while you are there.
Direct sales companies don't use loss leaders without provisos like buying $30 to get the sale because they can't get you in the store to impulse shop.
As far as shipping, "free" shipping on orders over $40 or $50 is also a sales gimmick to get you to buy more. And it works, countless times, as you cruise through those websites looking for one more thing to buy to get your "free" shipping. Only $10 more and I'll get $2 off!!! OOOOHHH! What should I buy?!?!? Frankly, it gets me EVERY TIME. I'm also a sucker for minimum shipping...I better order $40 at a time just to make sure I never pay over 10%. Yep, they see me coming every time.
At least $30 to get 30 percent off is right up front. ;)
Jan, you crack me up! I'm exactly the same way -- there I am, checking the $$ range for the shipping fee, adding stuff to nudge my total up to just *under* the amount that will bump me into the next-higher shipping category. Gotta get my Shipping $$'s worth, yes, indeedy! I believe spending-to-save is required under the Rules of Acquisition, isn't i??

Wow! I'm getting ready to place an order and didn't realize that they were having a promotion! I"m so excited! I love that thouroughly thankful set! Yippee!!

I think Stampin' Up!'s shipping is VERY reasonable! Think of the weight of some of their items!
What's so bad about spending $30? I thought the sale was great!
What I'm doing for my first time customers is putting together a flyer of products to put together the cards shown that equals about $30, and then you can go ahead and purchase your stamp set. All of my SU newbies have loved this!
People seem to be so quick to complain about SU around here.

Oh, my - truer words were never spoken! I do this at Amazon all the time to get their free shipping with orders over $25 - now THAT's a good deal! I also agree with the loss leaders - never do I go into a store to get loss leaders without coming out with other stuff!
I think this promotion is a great deal, even though I probably won't get any of the sets. If I didn't fall in love with them before, I'm not going to get any just because they are 30% off.

One other thing - the one thing that gripes me more than anything is that sales tax is charged on shipping costs! Now THIS to me is totally WRONG!
It gripes me too! Unfortunately, you'll have to speak with your legislature about that. Every state is able to make their own rules about that. My state also makes SU charge tax on shipping. Other states don't. Some states make SU collect tax on free hostess merchandise, others don't.
It's just not something SU has control over...they have to fork over taxes to the states that want 'em. Crummy, huh?
One other thing - the one thing that gripes me more than anything is that sales tax is charged on shipping costs! Now THIS to me is totally WRONG!
No sense in complaining to Stampin' Up! about it, since they have no control over it. Now what you can do is be an active citizen and go to your state and voice your opinion.
Seems to me if you wanted the sets anyway- than it's a good deal. They are still on a discount- and surely there is $30 worth of other things on your wishlist? That's like 1 or 2 stamp sets.
It just seems like a silly thing to complain about. What's next "Stampin Up is giving away free sets, but first I have to spend $50" during SAB?
Stampin' Up has great promotions- and customers can really benefit- but they are all designed to boost sales!
I think it is a fabulous promotion. A lot of companies have free shipping if you buy a certain amount. It is a legitimate mechanism for companies to ensure that you aren't just taking advantage of the sale items, KWIM? And, many folks (not all, for sure) regularly plop down $30 or more in an order. So it is definitely a win for them if they want those stamp sets.

I've noticed that, and have decided that it means that SU! has hit the BIG TIME!
You know how it is, everyone likes to take pot shots at the big guy on the block?
So - it's good news! (Well, at least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)
LOL

You can take that up with your State officials. Whether or not tax is charged on any items depends on the rules of the state in which it is purchased.
Oh, I didn't mean to single out SU on the tax issue at all. I live in Illinois and work in Missouri, and both states do this. I know it's not the companies that do this, but it still gripes me to have to pay tax on shipping on anything.
I think my CM friend just told me their shipping was a $7 minimum, or 10% over $100. I'm thinkin' that makes SU! looks pretty good as Tandra said.
And I am also on the "awesome special" boat.
Actually, most CMCs don't charge a $7 minimum. If you place an order off a CMC's website, then yes, you get charged $7 under $100, but I don't know any CMC's who personally charge that. For me, it's a flat 7%.
I think it's a great deal! 30% off a set is a great markdown.
Plus, I have never spent less than $30 for one order......lol!
but all i want this time is a couple of the stamp sets.... My oldest b-day is Oct 9th, then Christmas is right around the corner. I want to just buy the stamp sets and spend $30 not 60 to a 100 once i add on another 30 bucks worth of stuff.
But good news!!! My Demo said when she places the order she'd make sure every one in our club would qualify for the discount!!!! My Demo is the greatest!!!!! ;)
