Smile Teaching/Hosting A Class

Hello!
I'm hoping that this post will give me a lot of helpful tips. This year, I'm more determined than ever to pursue my new found passion of paper crafting. A lot of my friends have said that I should host a Crop or teach a class. Does anyone have any tips out there that I can use in this new endeavor?

I've only been paper crafting for about a year now and haven't accumulated a whole lot of supplies and tools. I do have a cricut and cuttlebug machine. A bunch of scissors and a couple of paper trimmers.

What should I require an individual to bring to a crop?

Eventually, I'd like to teach a class on making some favors and other goodies. What should I charge for a class? Or should I even charge a fee?

Any helpful information anyone can offer up would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you!

For a crop, if you are letting them use your cricut or other tools I would charge them a fee. That way if a mat or blade needs to be replaced you are covered.

At my work we do a crop and every brings a dish to share and we share tools. We bring our own things to work on.

For a class I would come up with some projects and provide everything except adhesive. Depending on the cost of materials and what your goal moneywise I price my class accordingly.

I instruct stamping classes so some of this may not be applicable, but the basic tool kit that I request includes the following:

Scissors
ruler
small paper trimmer (I know an instructor that had 6 trimmers "walk away"
pencil, eraser
bone folder
double stick tape or similar product
x-acto knife & small cutting mat,
hole punch
permanent black ink pad

If there are any special products/tools that are required I also include a project list.

At the LSS they give you a project list of things to buy at the store. If the project has a lot of work, they also give you a homework assignment of things to do before you come. I've started doing this as it helps to make sure they finish in the alloted time.

Also, at the the scrapbook store if you want to use thier Expression, you have to buy a new mat as part of the room rental fee.

Good Luck, teaching is so much fun.

I have hosted a weekly scrapbooking/crop group for the past couple of years at an RV park. According to park rules, we are allowed to charge for supplies but not for our time, so at my crops it's "bring your own ~ no charge/ use mine ~$5 per 2 hours". Most people bring their own paper/scissors/adhesive and use my tools, including Cricut and Cuttlebug. Whatever $ I take in is spent the same week buying supplies (mats, blades, folders, etc) and I come out even.
