Are they only available in clear. I liked a couple, but if I can't get them in wood, I'm not really intersted. I hope they aren't going to discriminate against us old-school type woodies. :(

Single stamps are only available in the clear mount. Sorry. But, you could mount them on a block of wood that you can purchase at the hardware store. I think the reasoning is price.
So, I get the rubber v. photopolymer (ie, rubber v. clear) debate. But the cling mounted stamps from SU are also rubber. So what is the advantage to a wood mount over a cling mount?
Like the OP said price for one but I also think storage is another.
Like the SU unmounted in rubber because the image is nice, clean and crisp. I must use too much 'muscle' when I stamp with polymer because the outline of my stamped image isn't clean.
I'm liking the single stamp offerings by SU because more often than not, I will like some of the stamps in a set. Paying the price for a set to only use 1 or 2 isn't in my budget. Seems like I am not alone and SU listened!
I was wondering why the OP wanted them in woodmount over cling. I understand wanting them in rubber, but they're all rubber.
I'm not the OP (obviously) but a lot of people still love to use wood over cling/unmounted. Anymore I purchase unmounted/cling for storage reasons (and price) but I still absolutely love stamping with wood - just stamp and go. I don't have to worry about finding the right acrylic block to put it on, don't have to worry about rubbing too hard when cleaning, etc. Just wish wood took up less space.
I am a wood mount girl. I don't want the extra steps of finding a block, mounting and unmounting. I have a lot of storage space (I'm lucky there - I know), so that's not an issue for me. I also just plain like the feel of wood in my hand. I just wish they offered the option, like they do with the sets.

Hmmm, I have the Just Thinking in wood mount...so some of them must come that way. Of course, I got it on Ebay so maybe the previous owner mounted it on wood? I am going to go check the catalog and see.
On another note...geogymnast83 mentioned rubbing too hard when cleaning? What's that about? I wonder if I am doing something wrong because I have never thought about cleaning them, I Just scrub and detach from the block. Is that bad?

As an edit to my previous post...it looks like just about all of single stamps are available in wood mount but they are not from the a la carte collection from what I can tell. Some single stamps (Two by Two, Just Thinking, Blissful Bird, Gossamer Lace...) are ONLY available in wood.

Right...these are the "special limited time only" single stamps that are clear mount only. The single stamps in the catalog are wood mount only.

These are all the reasons I love wood mount. I also hate that SU clear mount fall off with the sticker attached.
That said, I buy clear mount to save $$$$$$$$!

Thanks. (And to geogymnast for answering, too.) You both had good and fair reasons that I had not thought of, so I appreciate your explanations.
No wood is also probably a bit better for the environment, less cutting down of trees. But I'm sure making acrylic blocks also has downfalls, chemicals, etc.....but you only need a few of those instead of a wood block for every single stamp.
(sorry, I'm a tree hugger and always feel a little guilty for all the paper/wood I use )

Wouldn't really consider myself a "tree hugger" lol but I do try to recycle when I can! I'm pretty sure SU blocks are reforested or something like that but I agree that it's better with no blocks! I also try to recycle my scraps, have a separate bin. We might move soon and I"m not sure the little township we are going to has recycling. I need to check...that would be awful if they didn't!
