Default SU New Double Mounted Stamps

Anyone else feel this way?:

I just got Soft Summer from SU and am frustrated and upset. I love working with the wood stamps but I do not want a flower image on both sides with a miniscule picture that I can hardly see pasted on the side.

The sayings labels are printed so small that I need a magnifying glass to read them. I enlarged the labels to their true size on the copy machine and found extra wood blocks and mounted the stamps, each on their own block.

I then had to put the labels on with sealing tape and, to put it mildly, it looks like junk.

Also, when you enlarge such small images to the true size, they are not crisp and clear so you do not see the details of the flowers like it used to be.

I sure hope Stampin' Up listens and goes back to one image - one block.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Yes...Stampin' Up! has listened to its customers and demos! Any NEW sets they put out will not be double-mounted, except for alphabets and special "kit" stamps (like the little note kits in the back of the catalog).

Any sets that are currently double-mounted will remain that way until they are retired.

I agree with you. A lot of people gave that feedback to Stampin' Up, and they are acting on it. I believe with the new catalog, there will be no new stamps that are double mounted, with a few exceptions (I think for some alphabets and some kits.)

This is what I did with big double mounted stamps:

Buy another block that is big enough to hold your image. I ended up buying two bigger acrylic blocks because they are thinner and I could fit them in the clam shell case stacked on top of one another.

Unmount your stamps by putting them in the microwave for 10 or 15 seconds. Careful - the wood will be hot. The glue will be nice and sticky, though.

Remount one or both of your stamps on its own block. Stamp the image with nice dark black ink on either white card stock or acetate (must use stazon). Trim your image and attach it to the back side of your block.

It's a little bit of work, but I did it with Thoughts and Prayers and am SOOOOOO happy that I did!

Good luck!

Oh, I didn't realize Thoughts and Prayers is a double-mount set. I wonder if it will continue to be in the new catty? Or if not, if the price has increased?

No kidding, with the prices I can't believe we would have to deal with double mounting.

unfortunately, one of the hostess sets this upcoming year is also double mounted. if you don't like double mounted, be sure to read the fine print prior to ordering.

In the announcement made to demos a few months ago that double-mounting was being discontinued, Stampin' Up! said that current double-mounted sets would remain that way until they were retired -- Soft Summer was produced before the decision was made, and so there was no time to retool it before the mini began. Also, stamp sets that are part of a kit or bundle will continue to be double-mounted, as well as alphabet sets (presumably due to the large number of images).

Double-mounting was originally conceived as a way to keep costs down. Guess it's true that people are willing to pay a little bit more for the convenience of having each image on its own block!

I am so glad SU listened. I do not mind Alphas and kits dble mnted but regular stamps - and the images are so tiny. Thank you biblesistersmom for your tips. I was so upset, I did not even THINK of stamping the image and cutting the image out - duh!

Default UMOUNT ALL STAMPIN UP

I USED TO HATE THE DOUBLE MOUNTED SETS, BUT NOW I HATE ALL MOUNTED. I HAVE FIGURED OUT THAT I CAN HAVE 10 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF STAMPS IN THE SAME SMALL AREA WHEN I UNMOUNT THEM AND USE ALENE'S TACK IT OVER AND OVER AND CLEAR BLOCKS AND I STORE THEM IN CD CASES. THE CLEAR BLOCK ALSO MAKES IT SO MUCH EASIER TO POSITION YOUR STAMPS. I HAVE EMAILED STAMPIN UP CUSTOMER SERVICE REQUESTING THEY OFFER UNMOUNTED STAMPS FOR SALE AT A REDUCED COST. THIS WOULD SAVE ALOT OF MONEY WITHOUT HAVING THE BLOCKS, CASES AND THE HEAVY SHIPPING.

Emily, I'm sure you didn't mean to but please undo your caps key. All caps is considered "yelling" in the forums. Thanks!

I know a lot of people have unmounted their stamps and love all the flexibility and space it gives them. I was just stamping a few minutes ago using both wood mounted and unmounted and I am one of those people who really really prefer mounted stamps. So far, space isn't a huge issue for me (although who couldn't use more?! - LOL!).

It's cool -- besides being "screaming" in netspeak, it's also kinda hard to read an entire paragraph of all caps even when your vision's good! I actually had to go back over your post a few times to get what it said, because the typeface was hard on the eyes. If folks don't want to deal with using the 'shift' key, I'd much prefer no caps at all! ;)

I just got Thoughts and Prayers and I was sooooo disappointed to see the double mounting. There is just no way this is a functional set up! I wonder if SU would consider giving us the additional blocks to fix the problem? It isn't like the set was cheap.

Hi Kerry - It's Val! (Hope you get your blocks today!)

I wanted to send you some pictures to answer your question, but I couldn't figure out a way to attach pics to a PM. Then it hit me that since this is your thread, you probably wouldn't mind me hijacking the topic to answer your question!

I use EZMount to mount all my stamps. There are a couple of reasons:

1) Storage space is SOOOOO much less than wooden blocks. I like the feel of the blocks, but I only have so much space. If I can choose between sets with blocks or MORE SETS to fill up that space, the choice is easy!
2) The EZMount cling foam keeps my rubber padded (for better images) and keeps the rubber where it belongs (either in the CD case or on the acrylic block)
3) I don't get sticky fingers. There's nothing wrong with Aileen's Tack it Over and Over or double sided tape if you want to go completely unmounted, but I personally totally freak out when my fingers get sticky. Yuck!
4) I can see where I'm stamping. It's not perfect, but I closely trim my rubber before putting it on the EZMount, so I'm pretty close to looking at exactly where my rubber is going instead of looking at an image of the stamp and a piece of wood!

Here's some pics - I'll post the other three in the next post. Any questions, let me know!

Here's the other pics with more detail...

Of course if you're an active demo doing classes, workshops, etc., you'll want to use traditionally mounted SU stamps for that since that's the way that SU sells them. I'm a hobby demo ONLY, so I can unmount all mine. I know that some demos mount their current sets on wood so that they can use them in workshops, etc. and then unmount the sets as they retire (if they're going to keep them for their personal use) as they can't demo those sets any longer anyway. Just some thoughts for you... Hope it helps a little!

Take care,

Val

Snowowl: I just realized that I didn't hijack eslkerry's thread - I hijacked yours! I'm sorry about that - I was thinking that eslkerry had started this thread since I had been in touch with her on this subject.

If you'd like some extra blocks so that you don't have to double mount your Soft Summer set, send me a PM and I'll make it up to you for the hijack!:p

Wow Valeria, NOW I THINK I GET IT!. I kept trying to envision the whole unmounting and then storage and then using the stamps and I just couldn't get the whole process set in my mind.
I think I like the wooden blocks for stamping cuz you can see the image as you put it down, but I'm going to try unmounting with one set to give it a whirl. Thanks for the info (and the blocks).
I keep forgetting it is a holiday too since we had to work (grumble, grumble). I'll be stalkin the box tomorrow!

I don't like double mounted stamps either. I don't feel like I can get as good of an impression when I don't have a solid wood block to press down on. And I'm afraid of mooshing the rubber on the non-stamping side. I'm glad SU listened and will discontinue these.
