Default SU July Stamp set promotion

Love the new set "Reason to Smile" that will be available for purchase in July (only $5.00 with a $50 SU merchandise order!)

Hope to see more monthly deals like this in the future! Does anyone know if this is a new trend for SU?

These numbers were available on Mary Fish's website:

Reason to Smile - Wood Mount Item #131274 - $5.00
Reason to Smile - Clear Mount Item #131275 - $5.00

Has to be entered after you've reached the $50 product total. Hope that helps!

Stampin' Up! hasn't said if there will be any more specials like this, but agree it's a great special and I hope to see more as well.

I tried to place my online order and everything was going fine. Did give me the promo offer when I hit $50. Clicked to continue checkout and got the SU website is experiencing problems try again later message.....aaaarrrrggghhh Now will have to start all over! I hate that.

They don't really tell us about specials ahead of time. We did know about this one in June so that we could pre-order to have samples ready but most of the time they just kind of announce the promo when it's time for it.

For this one, I was thinking of ordering in wood as opposed to clear. Just curious what others are planning on ordering- clear or wood?

I was always a wood gal and then I started using the clear sets and I like them, but I did order this set in wood. I figured for the same price I might as well get the wood mount.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am a wood mount gal, but have lots of the clear as well. I just learned a new tip using my stamp-a-ma-jig (using vellum cardstock in squares of 2 and 3/4". Just stamp on them and keep the pieces in the stamp set, so you don't have to keep using your stamp a ma jig. But only works for wood not the clear.

I would recommend wood mount for this stamp set. If you at all care about alignment with 2 step stamping sets, you will want to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig with this one since all the little petals (and thus the outline of the image) are different. I also was concerned that the skinny part of the flower stem would be a bit wiggly on a clear block. So, even though I'm normally a clear-mount girl and am content with eyeballing my alignment with stamps, I'm glad I got wood this time.

I TOTALLY agree! I got the cling mount (and while I love the images in this set) I do see NOW that the wood mounted would have been easier to work with, especially given the 2 step process.

Will this stamp be around after July for purchase at the regular price? I want to promote this to my customers, but I am worried about displaying a "retired" stamp project beyond July. Any thoughts on this?

GREAT question and one that I, as a new demo, have NO idea as to the answer! Hopefully, someone will respond that knows. I do LOVE this set, but wish I'd have gotten it in wood.

I seriously doubt it since it's just a special promotion.

I don't think it's going to be available afterwards either since the promotion is from now until July 31st. I just wanted to say that this stamp set makes great one sheet wonder cards! I was making some last night and I posted two of them on my blog.

I like the stamp set. But I wished they had named it something else. Cause there is a older stamp set called Reason to smile. And I still have it in my collection of stamps
I'll be getting it in Clear Mount. As this is what I use all the time.

We had this stamp set available to us in JUNE here in Australia (I know, we actually got something first )

It is NOT available for sale this month, and I know that I am still waiting on mine as it is on backorder and has been for a couple of weeks! I doubt very much that we will see it for sale again here for this very reason.

That said, we didn't need to pay for ours, it was a freebie, but we had to purchase at least $125 worth of product to qualify. Or purchase it at full price (just checked my demo's newsletter!)

According to the promotion information on SU's demo website "The Reason to Smile set is exclusive to this promotion and will not be available after July 31, 2012." I'm sensing a trend here with promotional products that have a very short sales period. The Summer Smooches fabric brads were offered for sale only during the month of April as I recall.

I always think two-step is easier in clear mount because it's easier to see the placement. I'm I missing something here?

A Stamp-a-ma-jig perhaps?

It's a stamp positioner which allows for accurate placement in two-step stamping.

I agree that normally it is easier to just use clear but this stamp set has lots of tiny petals that are not at all the same sizes, so it is really hard to get them to line up without the Stamp-a-ma-jig. If you don't care about it being off, then you are fine. I just think the folks who want their backgrounds within the lines of the outline are going to have a hard time without the stamp-a-ma-jig and it is easier to use the stamp-a-ma-jig if you have wood since you don't have to start over if your stamp rubber pops off or slides by accident.

I prefer clear over wood for the price and the storage, but fortunately, I read about the difficulty in aligning the stamps without a positioner, just in time to place my order. Sadly, it's on backorder. I was happy that the clear and wood were both available here in Australia for free!! Looking forward to getting them as I've seen many lovely cards done using this set.

ETA: my point was that I ordered the wood!

I think this suggestion might have been made earlier in this thread, but it bears repeating. If I'm going to use 2-step stamping, I want the wood set AND I make permanent inserts for the Stamp-a-ma-Jig by stamping the images on squares of vellum cardstock with StazOn ink. Now you have a permanent imaging sheet that you can keep in the box with the stamp set. Having done this, I'm much more likely to use the samj and get a perfectly aligned image.

That said, I've seen many samples for 2-step sets where the artist doesn't bother with the background stamp at all. She just stamps the main line image and then colors the image in with various coloring mediums.

Sounds like SU is taking a page from CTMH. They have had great monthly $5.00 promos lately. I took advantage of the Reason to Smile but here in Canada we had to spend $60.00. Oh well....

I have the set in CM and haven't had any problems with alignment with or without using a SAMJ since it's the block that is pushed against the SAMJ and not the stamp. For me, withwer way gives me the same alignment capabilities. The nice thing about CM is that you don't have to use the SAMJ unless you want an exact match, which I rarely do with 2-step stamps. I like the look of being slightly off.

Also, I cut the stem off of the flowers because I don't always want the stem to curve in the same direction and with a CM stamp I can align the stem without the SAMJ.

One thing to note about this set is that it's supposed to look distressed. You will have spots, dots, and areas that stamp heavier/darker than others. The stamps are not flawed , just a very cool new look.

A few samples:
