I got an e-mail from my demo today that Stampin Up has announced the retirement list of items from the Holiday Catalog that they are retiring now. I am really disappointed that they are not continuing to sell the Holiday products through the end of the catalog effective dates. There is still 6 weeks to go on the catalog. I realize they announce the retiring list for the annual catalog about 6 weeks before it ends, but the Holiday catalog is for such a short period of time. I don't remember this being done before. Is this a new thing or did I just miss it in the past?
This is the first I remember a retirement list from the mini. Lately I'm so disappointed with SU. Backorders also seem to be the norm now. Luckily what I want yet is not on the retirement list, but if it had been I would have been so disappointed.
Most demo blogs I follow are only linking the PDF list and aren't explaining detail just saying while supply lasts. That's not totally true. Retiring stamps will be available until Dec 28 and then they will become "while supplies last" thru Jan 4. Accessories are while supplies last starting now. SU is going to have retiring lists for all catalogs according to a Q&A they put out. If there is something you really want but can't order now it would give you an idea of what will carry over.
Here's the Q&A SU put out which may help understand what is going on.
Q & A from Stamping Up:
Q: Will you order more retiring products if we run out before the end of the catalog sales period?
A: Our intent is always to have products for the entire sales period, though occasionally products perform better than anticipated. If seasonal products (except stamps) can be ordered and received in time for the holiday for which they were designed, we will order more. Otherwise, items on the retiring list will be sold only while supplies last. In the North American market, stamps are guaranteed to be available until one week before the catalog sales period ends. After that time, they will be available only while supplies last.
Q: Why doesn't Stampin' Up! just order more products when inventory is low?
A: Purchase order lead time (or the time it takes to get products from the point of ordering to the point of delivery) can take 60 days or more. Because of this, we don't always have sufficient time to get products to our warehouse before the catalog sales period ends.
Q: When an item is listed on the Retiring List, does that automatically mean that we have low inventory of that item?
A: No.
Q: Why is the list called "Retiring List" and not "Retired List"?
A: "Retired List" suggests that the products are already retired. "Retiring List" correctly denotes that the products on the list are not yet (but are soon to be) retired and will not carry over to the next catalog.
Q: Why did Stampin' Up! change the retiring product policy for seasonal catalogs?
A: During the past several months, Stampin' Up! has been aligning programs and processes to provide as much consistency in our offerings as possible. As part of this effort, we are now providing a retiring list for all of our catalogs (not just the annual catalog).
I'm 90% Stampin Up! Because I have a demo friend and we gather monthly to play and order. I have tried cheaper card stock but returned to SU because of the quality and the ease in color matching. I hope they can get the backorder thing figured out because I've heard so many complaints, plus they are having to pay shipping when they send items as they come in. In our last order my demo friend had four items and I had one on the backorder list and all five things shipped separately. I'm sure they want to fix that too.
Kathy, You don't pay separate shipping for b/o ordered items. I had one order from the Holiday Mini that had 2 items on b/o. I did not pay any additional shipping and the 2 b/o items where shipped at different times.
I wish that SU had clarified that "until one week before the catalog sales period ends" and then "only while supplies last" before now. I ordered Stippled Blossoms from the last annual catalog and was unable to get it because of this new policy (seriously - I've been buying from SU! since 2003, and NEVER run into this before!). A heads-up would have been nice - I'd have ordered it sooner! Anyway - I hope that those who are really wanting some of these things are able to get them. I got the handful of things from this catalog that I wanted (had to wait for two of them on backorder, of course), so I'm not cryin'...

I think she meant that SU had to pay separate shipping, not the customer, and that they'd be glad to fix the backorder thing so they wouldn't have the extra expense...

No, I didn't mean to imply that. I meant THEY spend the extra to ship it to us. Sorry if I was misleading.

I'd like to get a peek at the new catalog. I saw Lydia posted a project she made with a love bug car. Just wondered if anyone knew where I could see more? ;)
I saw that one! She gets so excited its fun to watch her, but I didn't see anything that floats my boat. This last mini was full of stuff I loved! There's still stuff in the regular catalog I want so maybe that's a good thing. Although many times I've said I didn't care for stuff and then I start seeing it used and change my mind. I'm hoping there's some good stuff in saleabration!

i think what Kathy meant was it was costing the company, SU a great deal of money on shipping. :}
Thanks for the link to the haul video Tami White posted! I must admit that I didn't see anything really stunning. The heart die looks somehow nice and I like the idea of the constellation stamp set, but I don't know whether I have to own those sets.

That's weird, isn't it? This must have something to do with marketing strategies.

That's why they like their demos to use new sets. I also think they enjoy the buzz about links to the new catalogs. It gets everyone hyped to see it!
Yes, I believe that, too! And often, one need to see examples, so that the stamp set is brought to life. Thankfully, this doesn't work with all new stamp sets - although there are enough sets, in which the strategy is working.

I just ordered quite a lot from the holiday catalogue today. I am assuming I will get what I ordered eventually if stuff is back ordered. Otherwise, it would have said out of stock or no longer available when I clicked the add to bag, no?
When a stamp is listed with FR in the name, does that mean only the French version will be discontinued or both English and French? I have forgotten how that works. Been away for a while. TIA!
