It's funny...convention is exactly the reason why I signed up as a demo because I saw all the fun everyone was having!

I'm debating being a demonstrator so would love to know more about convention. What is it? Where is it? How much does it cost? Details please details.

It's in Salt Lake City (they used to have it in different cities, but I guess they determined it was too expensive to send as many staff as they needed from Utah). There are displays, demonstrations, classes, business announcements, fantastic swapping, as well as getting together with the largest group of fun stampers you'll ever have the opportunity to meet! This year it's $280 for the convention, and it runs July 21-24. Airfare and accommodations extra.

From what I have read each participant makes a swap card for each other participant . That looks like a lot of cards to make
Just curious . How many cards did you have to make this year ?

Oh my! There are 2700 people. You make as many swaps as you have the time/energy/supplies for. I have the attention span of a gnat, so I would generally make 50-ish of three or four designs. I would swap them the first day or two and be done. Sometimes people do specialized swaps where there is a required number, but that is over and beyond. Another note: You only swap if you want to. Its not required, but it is fun!

Yikes! I can't imagine making 2700 of anything not even ATC cards.
I am so slow if I made a swap card for everyone I would only be able to go to a convention every 10 years LOL
Does anyone make a card for everyone?
Is that how many people come to the convention or the number of SU demos in the USA ?

As far as swaps go, if you sign up for organized swaps, you make as many as there are participants. I signed up for just two: one for 5 +1, and the other for 10+1. Then the swap group I am in had one for 20 cards, 10 each of 2 designs. Other organized swaps can go up to 100 participants, but I don't like to do that many of one design.

Otherwise, for swaps that you do for floor swapping or general swapping, you make as many as you want to bring home. Some years, I went kind of nuts and made 200 swaps, not all of the same design though. I usually like to make 24-32 of one kind of card, it gets dull making more than that of the same design. This year I made 20 of one design because that was all I could get out of the designer paper I used and I keep one for myself, so I had 19 to swap. The other design I had I made 24. And that was plenty. But I've seen some women with boxes and boxes of the things.

2700 was the number that attended convention. There are something like 30,000 to 40,000 demos just in the US at any given time and that's not counting the number of Canadian demos who also can attend convention in the US. It was a small crowd this year; some years it's been more like 6000 to 7000 at convention.

And swapping is not required. It's just fun! Some demos do not swap at all, either because they don't care to or didn't have the time. The purpose of swapping is usually to get new ideas for your business, but for some it's more like a sport. I usually enjoy looking at my swaps after convention, take them to my upline's meeting to share, then I like to box them up and ship them to my out-of-town downline that did not attend as well as the ones that live closer to me that did not attend either. I only have room for so many cards at my house! I may keep a few that I really like and am inspired by, though.

Very Interesting. Thank you!
I didn't realize there were so many SU demos. I have only been doing this for nearly a year.

I wonder what SU does with all the hand made decorations when convention is over?

They are awesome!
