Default Is the SU color caddy worth it???

If you own the SU color caddy can you please share your thoughts? I am wondering if it is worth the $$$? I have heard some negative things about it and I want to make a good choice! Espcially when $60 in cardstock and stamps can buy a girl a lot! ;o) Thanks, SCS'ers!

I got mine by default. A customer bought it-HATED it- and took Mary Kay stuff in exchange. After using it for a month-I would have been disappointed if I had spent $60 on it myself. But, since I basically got it for free, it's ok. But ONLY ok. I would rather have had the cardstock.

That is a bummer but worked out well, sorta good for you! Is it that it is flimsy? That is what I have heard. Thanks for the input. = ) I do love cardstock....

I am really enjoying mine and think it was worth the $60. Before this, my ink pads were in one of the plastic drawer things and it was difficult to find the colors, etc. Now it is neat and organized.

I think it is flimsy, yes. I don't think I'll push this product. I won't discourage customers, but I won't rave about it, either. I like that my colors are now organized, but if I could go back in time with my current knowledge, I would not order it. $30 or even $40... maybe. but not $60.

I love mine! It fits great in the limited amount of space I have on my desk and all the pads are quickly accessible when I'm stamping. I also have some friends who come over once a week to stamp with me. We move to my dining room where there is more space to spread out. The Color Caddy is easy to move from one room to the next. We put it in the middle of the table and everyone has access to the pads.

I purchased the Elite caddy (see web address below) and am thrilled with it. Everyone I know who has it loves it. While it is more expensive than the SU caddy, it is worth every penny (or dollar).

Just another viewpoint....

I don't know what people have against the color caddy. I absolutely LOVE it. I don't have one bad thing to say about it. I ordered it the day we could order out of the new catty, so I have been using it for awhile and it is great. It is so much easier to transport the pads instead of carrying around 4 boxes or ink pads that I would have to do. I don't have all the reinkers that go on top so I have some cards up there that make it look pretty.
The price is right too. If you look into something else that is comparable you are going to pay alot more. I have sold one and they love it too. I would definetly encourage people to get it. It is a great way to organize them. I hope this helps!

I love mine too. It is one tool I really wouldn't want to be without. I love having my pads so close to where I work. Before I had to get up every time I needed another color. I'm totally happy with mine.

Default Love it!

Although I have only had it for about a month, I love mine. It is excellent for organizing your stamp pads. I don't have reinkers yet, but I do keep my embossing powders up there, and that makes them easily accessible too! It's great. I do think that $60 is a little much for it, but all in all I really like it. I have mine sitting on top of a plastic 7 drawer organizer on wheels (which I also love-from Sam's Club!! great buy for $20). I have noticed that when I open and close the drawers though, the color caddy seems a little wobbly and sways atop the organizer. Seems a little top heavy or something...maybe they could do some sort of upgrade to it to make it more steady! Just a thought! HTH

I think it's over-priced and not very well made. It doesn't turn easily and is extremely wobbly. Speaking as a customer, I think demonstrators would be very wise not to push this product.
In another thread, a poster who is a demonstrator said that hers was putting too much pressure on the pads on the bottom and was scratching up the covers.
It is nice to have the pads all in one place, but, if I had seen it first, I never would have bought it. I would have opted to spend a bit more and gotten one of the beautiful wooden ones I've seen on this site.

One of the ladies had bought a cassette holder from wal mart and she said it was only about $14. Plus it holds all 48 inks and all 48 craft pads. Here is the link to that thread. She posted a picture. http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...ic.php?t=15326

Have a good day!

Wow! Thanks for all your responses ladies!

I have completely exhausted my search for any cassette holder (believe me, I have been everywhere in SE Michigan!).

I am going to ponder a bit more, but thanks so much for the feedback!

I know about not finding cassette holders in SE Michigan. I have a Port-a-Ink for my stamp pads, bought long before the Color Caddy came out and have to admit I love it. It costs a bit more than the CC, but it is very sturdy and rotates freely.

ANd, for my non-SU ink pads and my SU craft pads, I bought a cassette holder from Kingdom Tapes for around $25. It's plain and made out of wood. The SU! pads will fit when you insert the narrower end into the slot and so will the spectrum pads. They will stick out so if you have it full it might tip forward (mine hasn't, but I don't have all the slots filled), but if you secure it to a wall, it should not be a problem. I can put most of my other pads in sideways.

Default Is the SU color caddy worth it?

I've had mine for a few months and really like the easy access to all my stamp pads. I wouldn't recommend carrying it to workshops but it does fit in tiny spaces without a problem. It is a little bit on the flimsy side, but I think after seeing how expensive others have been selling their nicely made ones the SU caddy is worth it! I hope they offer it with Great Rewards money soon, and that it won't be too much to get it through there, I've sent in an email suggestions for it.

Thanks Jan. I really like the Side by Side style at the first link. And the funny thing is, I have one of those wooden cassette holders but it is too big. It holds 100 and I just don't have the space at my corner area for it when 1/2 of it is empty! Thanks again, I am really going to be thinking of that side by side style! hmmmm.....

I just must comment. I don't have the SU! holder but one that my dad made for me. It's 18X14X3/4 made out of beautiful oak (my favorite wood). I like the fact that it is long and not round. A spinning holder would take up to much room on my stamping table. Just my 2 cents worth!

[quote="dncbanks"]Does anyone know if something like this would hold the ink pads?

It sure looks like it would. It is hard to say without seeing the slot. I say this because I bought a cassette holder exactly like the clear one on that site, hoping it would work. Well, the "shelf" part wasn't long enough to hold the pads in with the color name facing out and the ink pad wouldn't go in the other way because there was a mini-shelf! I know this is clear as chocolate milk. Picture this:

__

So, I hope that helped a little. I do really like the black one on that site. I am a little hesitant to buy without seeing and being able to try it out! I think I am going to keep an ink pad with me at all times... just in case! hee hee

edited because I can't spell sometimes!

I purchased a wooden caddy on e-bay about eight months ago. It's also got dowels for wheels (the regular sized ones) and the wheel handle, and all my reinkers fit perfectly on the top. I think I paid about $40 plus shipping, but I think I got a really good deal. These usually go for a little more.

Default color caddy

I bought it and I do like it. I've never used anything else, so I can't compare. I wouldn't say it is flimsy ... but maybe loose. It turns well, but is designed not to free spin. If I had seen the walmart holder for cds I might have bought it instead just to save money, and buy more stamps!

I use a CD case like the cassette case linked above. It works great and it was free!! We had it! It's a 60 CD Case Logic zip around carrying case.

Maybe I should call Demo Support-my caddy has to be muscled to turn, the first time I tried to transport it, the handle came off and the whole thing spilled apart, but when I tightened the handle, the lids on the bottom 2 pads on each side split. I don't want it to free spin of course, but it could go easier. I'm glad I didn't actually pay for mine, but it's cool that so many of you DO like it.

I have one from cdjdesigns too and I love it! I got the side by side and wall mounted it, I store my lightbox under it on the table so it saves me some space. Its a bit more than SU!, but well worth it. Its very sturdy and has room on the top for reinkers as well. Hope that helps!

Well, for $14.00 I decided to order the cassette spinner thing that Spoiled Stamper and Beate have. (Thanks for the brand name, Beate!)

If you'd like check it out you can go to www.fellowes.com and type: Cassette in the search box.

Thanks again for all you help, advice, links and ideas!! SCS'ers are the bestest ever!
