I got the dollar tree dimensionals a little while back because I saw a post here on SCS. They worked great, so I thought. But when I went through some of my cards I made using them, they were falling off. And it hasn't been that long when I made those. maybe 2 to 3 monghs ago.
I will not buy Dollar Tree dimensionals anymore.

Evalou, we do ask for verification and will help as much as possible if anyone gets stuck.
And, Evalou, if I remember correctly, we had to log in on SU and cut & paste the path in the address bar, just so they could see that we actually had access to SU's demo area. It was over a year ago but something like that - not a picture of yourself .

I agree, Jenn... so happy to see Karen back, and Karen, I sure hope you can get back in your groove again. It might make you feel better to go back and see the fun we had last night chatting ~ demos, non-demos and people who disagree having a good ol' time together . Hope you stamp today!! And I've tried others but they did stink ~ and SU dimensionals are the ONE thing I insist I never run out of. Love 'em.

ETA: Oh, AJ, I have been meaning to try Jody's, too.

And ladies from last night ~ glad to see that "you're baaaaaaacccckkk...."

I had a ball!! Dog is sick today and we're looking for a back-up vet - holiday weekend of course... so I may not be around much. Didn't want you to think I got skeered off or anything .

Thanks again - it was a blast. And I didn't dream about margaritas because I was up most the night with my sweet pup.

I'm going to get me some of those smilies -- AJ and JulieHRR, you are an influence, I tell ya!!

Thanks, this must have changed since I signed on for the demo forum. I am glad to know that because I had a demo ask me not long ago how to sign up for it and I told her we only need out demo ID. Thanks for letting me know.

I would never have thought to question whether you would help or not, I "KNOW" that you do.

Plus, I had a heck of a time peeling the backings off...I only used them because I forgot my dimensionals and my hostess handed those to me instead. Horrible...just horrible...

Karen, sorry to hear you missed your challenge this week but glad you are sounding more upbeat -- and that you found last night's chatting because it really cheered everyone up.

And flyfishing is going to be my next hobby ~ did it once years ago and I loved it, so I'd like to take it up for real. I hope you enjoy it

OMG. I think SU is running scared...they see and hear about their loyal customers/demos liking other products and vocalizing it...and now we see what happens.

I am sooooo glad I'm a former demo. My sincere best wishes and good luck to those of you who are current demos....I'm so sorry that SU did this to you.

It is getting easier every day to track online activity - software makes this easy. One could set up a "spider" to track just about anyone or anything. Using specific criteria or search terms.

p.s. I work in an IT dept.

Soooo... if Target doesn't have something on their website, you think they should link to it? Or Jo-Ann's?

We don't expect this of regular retail websites, but it seems we have come to expect and even rely on this of "small-time" craft sites (i.e. consultant's blogs).

I've looked at several member companies' blog sites, and I still haven't found a side-bar link to a competitive retail site. And while they may mention other companies' products (SU is not prohibiting "incidental and occasional" mention, e.g. in supply lists or answering questions), they sure don't lead you by the hand to those companies' stores. But SU (and TAC and CTMH) demos *should* do this? I'm scratching my head here.

Since the new IDA aligns with my existing business plan, I'm not affected at all. I do feel for those whose decision is not so easy.

Nancy, talk to Mona Lisa! She loves to fish!

I don't know if she ties her own flies, tho. I tried when I was a kid (my dad's an avid angler, and has had his flies on display in angling museums, etc.) but I'm too clumsy. It's beautiful art form, tho! I just content myself to admire my dad's work. And, enjoy steelhead dinners at his house!

Actually, If you check Kim from My Favorite Things, she links all of us.

And I have links to Emily from Stamping Bella, Kim from MFT, Tim Holtz, Ali Edwards, Anna Wight from Whipper Snapper, Heidi Swapp, Cambria Turnbow from Our Craft Lounge, Marianne Walker from Copic and Our Craft Lounge, Julie Ebersole from Amuse and about a zillion other designers who all design for other companies, most who have promotional posts up right now to other company's products.

I also have links to 7 other forum type places that directly compete with StampTV.

I am not threatened by any of these wonderful companies, websites or designers. My stamps and card stocks are unique, our customer service is # 1on the list of priorities, our shipping rates are fair and I feel confident in what we provide to our customers as far as education, pricing, fun and friendship. So, why wouldn't I link my peers. You're going to find them anyway, why not use me as a source for the best in the business.

I have tutorials on my side bar that link to Stanpin' Up directly and I mention Stampin' Up quite often in my card recipes or when I am talking about tools.

When you link to another owner of a company or lead designer/illustrator- it is a link to another company. They are promoting what they sell with links all over the place.

I have even designed cards for new released for Kim from MFT, I have promoted Angela from Unity in my online magazine and more.

My only point to this post is that many and actually most of us do link to people we respect in the industry, regardless of whether or not they are our competition. It doesn't change the fact that my customers will still buy Gina K. Designs products if they like them. Just like my customers will still buy SU. That doesn't bother me in the least. There is plenty of room in everyone's stamp collection for variety.

SU customers need to be treated with respect and not with the assumption/attitude they are sheep.
I think the current SU interpretation is less harsh than the actual wording of their IDA contractual agreement. I personally would be concerned that the actual letter of the contract would be enforceable at their choosing.

I also think they have misjudged their market and how many people like to see things from a variety of sources.

I have found when I view a gallery that is company limited that after a while it all looks the same - there are the few that are incredible but in general galleries that don't allow competitors product start to look samey - for example I submitted work to the Inkadinkado Inkafriends Gallery. I made certain to only use basic products from competitors (paper/cardstock they don't do) However, I used my basic plain cardstock and cuts (no diecutting that isn't what they do either). I was happy with the outcome but can truthfully say that out of the three cards I submitted only one was truly unique looking.

IMHO Variety is the spice of life and I think it may have served SU better businesswise to think outside of the box and embrace the "mixed media" atmosphere that is currently in crafting. And even to the point of having 3 types of demos - Business Demos, Hobby Demos, and Mixed Media Demos. I think they have cut themselves off from a lot of talented stampers who were bringing them business through their creative use of all the products they used.

BTW you may be asking why a separate Mixed Media demos. IMHO SU could do their terms differently and their compensation differently in return. They could also still remain part of the SU world but be up for "Mixed Media" prizes rather than SU only prizes. And I really don't disagree that SU top prizes should go to people that are 100% promoting SU.

Instead, SU have chosen to alienate many creative stampers whom they could have tied into electronic promotions terms of using 50% of SU product on all their projects over a certain time, or something similar.

I hate to even say this but we had neighbors (thank goodness they are gone & the kids all made it to adulthood) that would do just that. The youngest was about 7 at the time.

That's why we love you Gina.

You've answered the question I've been afraid to ask.

So it really is OK to upload cards not using strictly GKD stamps?

Off topic... thank you for the challenge prize. Your shipping was so quick. I've already made 2 cards with Autumn Beauty. I'm looking forward to see what's coming for Christmas.

Jen
CAS. Embellished.
It's all good.
Happy stamping!!!

I loved your whole post, and especially the part I highlighted. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as a business owner.

Gina K - You rock. I so wish SU had your philosophy.

I really haven't read much of this thread, so if this has already been brought up, my apologies. As a SU demonstrator, I've already written demonstrator support. If you're not a SU demonstrator and would like to send your opinion to Stampin' Up! about these changes, here's the address. [email protected]

Gina, I looked and couldn't find the SU link anywhere over there. And I don't think she links to anyone on her main site page, just on her blog page. She may link to some SU demos, I didn't check out her blog roll.

I think the distinction here, is that some want to make SU a big old ogre for practicing what is pretty much an industry standard for most retail and direct sales companies. Things are different here in the companies that have blown up through SCS and the internet. All of these blog traditions have helped you and helped you grow your companies. Good for you if that is how you want to run your business, SU wants to go a different way because they are a different business model. That ought to be OK too, in my way of thinking.

Belinda
