Default stamping goals and hang ups

My stamping goal is to creat a card front using each stamp set I own and putting it in a scrapbook so I can just stare and stare at them when ever I want. Recently I gave my friend a card and I was at her house and it was hanging on the fridge and I couldn't stop staring at it. I think she thought I was nuts!

My stamping hang up is wasting card stock! I'm always so careful about how much I use and sometimes I avoid layering so I don't "waste" it! It's silly considering that SU cardstock is cheaper than at our local scapbooking store!

Default s.g. and hang ups

You're not the only one with the hangup of using cardstock. I'm not too free with it unless it's special vs. a thank you. I was reading the thread on hoarding yesterday and think I might be getting close to having to admit my problem. It just took such blood and sweat for me to buy little by little I just don't want it to evaporate on me!

My hangup and goal are wheels. I own several. I own the wheel guide. I have used them at other people's events--but I never pull out my own wheels and use them. I either need to use those toys or send them someplace where they can have fun without me!

I didn't see that hoarding post but I am definitely a hoarder. I'm afraid of running out I guess.

I wonder why you do that? Maybe you're worried about running out of ink in the cartridge?

My hang up is patterned paper. I buy tons of packs of it b/c it is so pretty but then never use it! I keep thinking what if I run out and can't get it again, what if I find a better use for it...its too pretty to use!!!! Sometimes I think the lady that insulted me the other day, because I stamped name tags for my dd's brownie event, by saying that I have too much time on my hands, is right!

Maybe I will make it a point to use some on my Mom's day cards...
C

ps - still figuring out all the new gadgets on this site...I wanted the smiley in the text where it is, but not sure how to get the one by the title out of there!!! oh well!

I don't know why! Maybe I was scared by a steam roller as a child I just don't like to wheel and I have to get over it. OK--right after lunch! You ladies are my witnesses--today I wheel!

On the subject of wheels, do I have to use the ink cartridge? Can they be inked from rolling on a pad? I own about 10 wheels and some jumbo wheels and both handles. I have never used them and I don't own any ink cartridges.

My goal is to spend at least as much time stamping as I do on this website. I too have a hangup about using fancy papers. I spend a fortune buying them and then won't use them because they were expensive!

Default stamping goals and hang ups

I believe the "hoarding" thread was actually called something like "are you like me?" or something to that idea. Quite interesting but in a twisted way made me feel better since I wasn't the only one with the tendency.

and I also can sympathize with not using pretty patterned paper. Me too.

I'm not really sure about this. If it was just a small area that you were rolling I think you could (ie one roll accross a standard sized card). That's just a guess though.

Default Hang ups....

My biggest hang up is cardstock too. I use every little scrap. My sons laugh at me because of my obsession. It is kind of funny.

I love my wheels...and yes, you can roll them in an ink pad (Iusally do it 4-5 times before putting it on the paper). I prefer the cartridges, but if I don't have a cartridge in a certain color, I definately don't let it stop me.

I don't use every little scrap, I keep them! I have scraps so small, but I just can't part with them!

My goals would be to use more of my stamps in my scrapbooking.

and i use cardstock with wild, reckless abandon. apparently, my dad was right, i DO think money grows on trees!

and i use my wheels by wheeling them over the inkpad. only works for smaller areas, but just fine for a card front!

I think my hang up is stamp sets.

I always see cute stuff done with a set and it immediately goes on my want list.

My goal is to get a card published in one of the stamping magazines this year.

My hang up is always trying to create the "PERFECT" card. It has gotten to the point where I now miss birthdays because I'm still working on a design or I make a design and it's just not good enough for my stampin' buddies, so I must perfect and perfect some more. So maybe my goal should be to start being happy with the simpler cards and just make more of them. I don't know. Any other perfectionists out there??

Yep, I'm a perfectionist, too! The only way I've found to get around it is to make cards that I will actually send to people in bulk and keep my 'personal art' cards for myself. A card in a friend's hands is better than the perfect card sitting on my desk. I'm such a nut!

I save all those little paper scraps thinking that I might make my own paper some day and of course it has not happened and probably won't but I have them all just in case. The joke in our stamping circle is our houses are fire hazards that we have so much paper in them that we are afraid to use.
And of course I keep buying more!! I had to buy a new container to hold it all.

Stamper-C ... when I read this my heart broke. We always say children can be so cruel, but children grow up to be adults. I'm sure you know this, but that lady was not right - you are merely a creative, involved parent. It's just the 'creative envy' talking. May we who love to create NEVER allow another to squash what we love. Keep up the great work! Besides, I bet the other mothers all thought the name tags were wonderful!

Linda,

I'm exactly where you are with the wheels. I love them, but never use them. Last night before I fell asleep I promised myself that my first card this morning would be using a wheel. And I will...as soon as I push myself away from the computer! Thanks for giving me a push!

Well put. I am not a perfectionist but I do like to keep my cards to "look" at them.

p.s. I like the card you made. So pretty!!

God this is my major hang up too. My cards are taking so long to make because I have to make them more and more "professional". The trouble is all my friends see each other's birthday cards and so I feel I have to top the last card I made. I seem to be missing the point that they are handmade
I must simplify my cards, I am overanalysing them a little too much. If I spent half as much time stamping as I do agonising I would be able to make a card for every person on this site.
My aim for this month is to simplify my cards without feeling like I have compromised. That is what I love about this site. Often the cards I love the most are the simplest.

Instead of keeping all those cards I started scanning them all in. Four at a time so they take up one full page, and then I can print them all off and save them in a book. It spreads the LOVE by sharing cards with my loved ones. Of course the ones I send to my hubby he saves and I can always look at them whenever I want. He puts some under the glass on his desk at work. Right now he is deployed and I am sending him a card a day for a month. I get to see all those cool cards I made when he gets home next month! YEAH.

My major hang up is I spend all the money I make back into stamping supplies that I really don't need!!! DH told me that he'd be okay with me keeping all my profits from my demoship. So I have and keep buying accessories that I never use! This month I vowed to start putting away $100 a month, but now I start thinking about the new catty coming out soon and just can't do it! I see the money sitting in my account buring a hole. It's crazy!

My hang up is that actually DREAM about my perfect LO for my next scrapbook page! I have 3 different scrapbooks going and LOTS of photos and don't know WHAT TO DO NEXT! Floating in and out of my consciousness all night are the perfect pages; distressed patterned paper, DTP inking, tags, embellishments... My husband probably hears me mumble things like... "please pass the embossing buddy", or "where's my 2-hole punch?" all night long. By morning, I'm exhausted!!

My goal is whenever I make a card, I'll do 1-2 more like it except with slight changes. I keep these extras for future reference or have them on hand for friends or family when I'm in a rush and don't have time to do one from scratch.

LOL!! Why SHOULDN'T we enjoy staring at our cards!? I love to stare at them! I have a 3-ring notebook with photo-page type inserts to store them in & of course I like to get it out & look at them! It's great to be able to browse thru them when I need a card. Sometimes I just can't give them away for a while; others I can give away but have to scan first.

The key to fear or cardstock wasting is...to buy more cardstock! Seriously, when I had only one package of an SU assortment (I think it was SS) I was afraid to experiment. I now have much more CS & realized that I don't need a whole bunch of stamps if I have lots of different CS & embellishments. Of course, I still WANT a bunch of stamps....

Wow, I empathise with so many of you!

Wheels... just can't get on with them. But I haven't really perservered.

Cardstock... have been saving scraps for years and two years ago decided to try to use JUST the scraps. You guessed it - I'm still at it! Still trying to use them up, so perhaps that should be one of my stamping goals!

Background papers... I am soooo hooked on these, especially retro ones. And all I ever do with them is get them out and look at them, and then put them away again! So another goal is to use more of my background papers and, in fact, my NY resolution was to start using more stuff - embellishments etc - and stop saving it "for best".

My other stamping goal is to try try TRY to stamp on my scrapbook pages! I'm stamper first, scrapbooker second, so why do I find this so hard? I can sit there with all my supplies (stamps included) ready, prepared and waiting to use and STILL somehow end up with a stamp-free scrapbook page!

Yet another stamping goal was to make all my birthday cards for the year EARLY! Managed four months' worth in January and then... stopped. I'll be struggling from next week...

My goal is to use the crate of elcheapo paper I bought before I saw the light about how much better SU pepar is. I have been trying to use it for cards to people I know wil likely never buy any SU from me.

My hangup is cleaning my stamps. I almost cringe when I see one lying there dirty during a workshop. I find myself taking longer to do projects because I'm cleaning constantly.
