Default stampin up CRAYONS?

Hi,
I am familiar with watercolor pencils. But how do these crayons work? Are they watercolor, or more acrylic/oil type? If you use them what do you think of these crayons?

Default Paint away

My demo scribbles on a piece of acetate and we just pick it up with an aqua pen. I bought them and pick up the color with the aqua pen directly from the crayons. It gives a beautiful watercolor effect.

I LOVE these. It seems the color is more intense than the WC pencils. I usually take an aqua pen to the crayon, but I've also drawn pictures with them, then painted over with a paintbrush and water. They are proudly displayed on my walls.

These are really great. I have used them now more than my chalks or my pencils. I use an aqua pen and take the color directly from the tips of the crayons. Sometimes I've colored on the stamped image with the crayon and then just blended with the aqua pen. I think I like taking it directly from the crayon a little better though.

I love mine and use them more than my pencils... My poor pencils sit on the shelf now because I reach for the crayon first. I like have more color choices with these. And I love to use the aquapainter with them.

I never liked to watercolor before, but I love the crayons. For solid image stamps, you can color directly onto the stamp, spray lightly with water and then stamp onto watercolor paper. This looks great with Heartfelt Thanks!

Ever since I got my crayons I have been using my aqua painter and dabbing at the crayon, then coloring in my image. But last week I read someone else's post that said they scribbled the crayon on a piece of scrap paper, then picked the color up from that scribbled area with an aqua painter, and then colored their image in. I tried the latter technique (scribbling onto a scratch piece of paper) this weekend -- and I definitely like it better! I think it looks more "water colored" than the way I had been doing it.

I think they are easier to control than the pencils. I don't have the SU one. Mine are the Caran D'Ache Neocolor 2 Aquarelle set of 30 from Switzerland. They are much cheaper and have a full range of colors including browns, black, gray, white, etc. all in one set. They work identically to the SU ones.

The crayon's are GREAT! I find they work so well with the aquapainter. I like my crayon's better than my pencils.

Default can you use crayons with blender pens?

Do you need the aquabrush with the crayons or can you blend with the blender pens?

I just got the crayons myself & am kicking myself that I didn't bring them with me this week on vacation. I only tried them once, for a short bit but my first reaction was "WOW, now I gotta get the rest of the color families!". I used them with the aquapainter & loved them.
I am thinking that the blender pen would work but probably a better result with the aquapainter- don't know since I haven't tried. Maybe someone else will weigh in on that!

Default Love them with Blender Pens!

I actually prefer to use the WWC with blender pens. I like the more intense color I get. It does tend to be more of a "creamy" look over a true watercolor look. You can put the crayon to paper and then use the blender pen or blender pen right to crayon. I prefer the pen to crayon effect myself.

Just play, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. HTH

I just use a regular paint brush. Cheap! Go figure. ;)

If I had one, I'd use an AquaPainter. I didn't have good results when I used a blender pen.

I love, love, love, my WCC! I use them with the aquapainter and blender pens. I have colored on the paper then blended and worked straight off the crayon itself and I love all ways.

I also love the crayon resist - I think that is what its called. Spray water on the stamp, color the stamp-go ahead and mix colors- spray again and stamp. Voila! Awesome, awesome crayons they are.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

That was my one complaint about my crayons - they came with absolutely no ideas, instructions or how to's! Thanks again, just in time for my next big stamping weekend with my sis!

The Caran D'Ache Neocolor 2 Aquarelle on Dick Blick are advertised as 21% or more off list, and the set of 30 there goes for $33.69 (List $45).

The SU! set of 24 goes for $19.95.

So they are not "much cheaper." Now you may have a really cheap source, but you also have demos that will sell to you really cheap, so what's the difference?

As a general note - if you want GOOD QUALITY watercolor pencils, they are not cheap, anywhere, anyhow.

The Caran D'Ache Neocolor 2 Aquarelle Watercolor CRAYONS are the same price - 30 for $33.69. I realize I compared pencils above.

So you'll pay more than a buck a crayon, either there or with SU! SU!'s price was more competitive when they had all 48 in one tin for $60. Dick Blick sell 40 crayons for $48.69, retail $65.

Thanks for this discussion...I bought the SU Watercolor pencils awhile ago, and i was so disappointed how the colors did not match the SU colors. So it is good to hear how great the SU Watercolor Crayons are, because they are in the SU color families. :-) LM

I love the crayons for the way the aquapainter makes it look like watercolor. I never liked the aquapainter until then. I've tried blender pens, too, and it works great!

I agree.....I haven't used my Watercolour pencils since I have gotten my hands on the crayons.....and likely won't use them too much anymore. I had hoped that the colours would have been a little bit closer to the SU! colour families....

Thumbs up Watercolor Crayons

Love um! Just give me an aqua painter, my crayons, a project and I'm good to go. I have ordered the box of Neutrals which should be here any day now! I can't wait to try them out too, since these colors were not in the first go-round.

Claudia, I got my crayons last summer and I love them but they didn't have the neutrals so those are high on my list too. And I really really wish they would do the "in" colors! Good idea.

Default love the crayons!!

I tried the crayons this weekend and loved them. I have the water color pencils, but I like the way the crayons match the paper. I just scribbled on a scrap paper and used the blender pen. It made a really nice water color look.
