Default Stampin' Money Savers

OK all you frugal moms! Let's here your best money-savers for stamping supplies.

I'll start --

When I use my stampin' scrub, I switch out using water for mist every few sprays... saves on mist.

Drywall tape instead of Magic Mesh, and I heat emboss it to change the color.

Who else can give us some money-saving ideas?

Use TACs hardware stamps with embossing powder or metallic ink instead of buying hardware

Use Coluzzle to cut the middle out of bottom layers so you can use those scraps later

Use HL watercolor crayons bought with a 40% off instead of SU, even though the color match is a bit off - they only cost $10.

Check the ribbon you buy carefully for the "by foot" price- some ribbons only come with a few feet, others come with lots of yards, and the spools look the same.

Use UM Cornish Heritage Farms backgrounds- the price cannot be beat

The Walmart 30 for $5 washcloths make great stampin' scrubs and can be used over and over.

Be wary of buying single craft store stamps without a coupon- SU and TAC prices are really much better.

Check the per piece price of all cardstock stacks- sometimes more isn't a better deal

for my stampin scrub, I always wet my scrub with water first(wet my hand and rub it on the scrub once or twice) and then spray with Mist 2-3 times. It stays wet for hours!! Be sure not to get your scrub too wet with water, just a light dusting of water.

I remember someone mentioning that they knew how to color their own eyelets and brads by dipping in clear nail polish and then something else...I can't remember now. Darn it! Anyone remember?

Okay, here's a couple...

Sometimes when people give me store bought cards - I recycle them. Some have pretty backgrounds that I can layer with.

Oh, along the same lines, in a stamping magazine (don't remember which one...Stamp It??) they used parts of a tissue box to create cards. The cards turned out great.

Hmmm...that's all I can think of right now. I'll see what else I can come up with once I dust off this 'ole brain of mine....

I have a stampin' scrub but I don't use it, I only use baby wipes and I think it saves money and works better but now that I think about it I'm not really "saving" money cause the stampin' scrub is just sitting there (ebay)! Duh, me!
But that stampin' scrub is just too much trouble.
Anywho, to save $ on stamps me and a couple other stamper friends of mine always stamp our new stamp sets for each other, onto WW or VV or whatever color we want, and trade them so we all don't have to buy the same stamp sets Ok, so now that I think about that, I'm not really "saving" money since I buy too many anyway, oh well. I am not so good at the saving money thing but you all have GREAT ideas!

I also use drywall tape instead of mesh and colour it with markers. I cut a strip and stick it on plastic to colour it, then peel it off and stick it on my card when it's dry.

At home I use the paint pads (not sure of the name but they are the same texture as the scrub) I cut the edges off so they sit flat. They're cheap and washable. I stuck two to the lid of a flat containter and keep my baby wipes in the bottom. This also helps keep the pad moist longer.

For magic mesh, particularly if you want metallic, I spray the drywall tape with the cheap Walmart spray paint. It makes absolutely fabulous gold drywall tape (and silver). For other colors, glossy sprays don't work too well but the matte sprays do. I just unroll a length and lay it on newspapers in the garage and spray away...leave it all overnight to be sure it's really dry, and roll it up into little rolls in a shoebox.

I have heard of people using their rubber scraps to make shadow and background stamps.

My absolutely biggest money-saver is making my own stamp cleaner. Basic H, water, and a little bit of scented oil. Costs pennies and cleans great! Love the idea of metallic spraypaint for the drywall tape, btw!

If you live in the greater Cleveland area, buy your cardstock and envies at Hollo's. Super terrific prices for stocking up!

I save my scraps, to the point of excess... when I cut a shape out using the CM system, I usually trim the piece to a cardfront size/layer size even thought the middle is gone (already mentioned above, I know...)

I wait until I have the layers on to stamp background images that aren't background stamps... can't see inking behind a layer....

Did someone say already they make xmas cards- I use old xmas cards to make tags for presents. Cut them up - add solid background paper to the back (so there's two pieces of paper, one to write on) and then tie w/ribbon.

This means I do not like it when anyone writes directly on the inside of the front cover of cards sent to me.

I will keep that in mind should I ever send a card to ya. Acutally, I tend to make cards and write a note on a Post-It that I stick inside the card, so the recipient can use the card, too.

Sharpie colored markers color brads very well too. I just buy silver ones and do my own thing. I've also squeezed the into craft ink and embossed them.

I have all of my scraps in page protectors by SU color family. One protector per color. I then put them in three-ring binders. I stand the binders up. I can see all of the colors, and they are easy to grab out of the protectors when I need a piece. I use my scraps so much more since I started this. Saving myself LOTS of $$$ on paper!

I use Scotch mounting foam, comes on rolls at any KMart, Walmart, etc either with the tape or in hardware. Comes out to be about 20 times cheaper than pop dots.

I dilute my SU mist cleaner 20% cleaner to 80% water and cannot tell a difference.

Mix your EPs to make new colors, or better yet clear emboss pigment images.

BTW, LOVE the washcloth idea!

I use the tabs off my Diet Coke for ribbon slides.

To color brads, hold onto the brad with tweezers/pliers, heat with gun for 7-8 seconds, and dip directly into your EP. These do occassionally chip, but I do this ALL the time!

I buy cheap envelopes. I spend my $ on stamps, paper and embellishments, who cares about the envys?

I also never order less than $150. This gives me a free set, $15, and my instant income. I also NEVER let any $ that's a dollar or more go to waste if my hostess didn't use it. I buy a reinker or something.

I bought su mist once and did not like it so I use water and old terry cloth towels 8x8 size to clean my stamps and aquapainter. As long as you clean after you stamp the images it works just fine....as for harder to clean stuff I have a toothbrush by the sink that is only for my stamps!

bout all I have at the moment!

For cleaning my stamps I use a mixture of Simple Green and water. I've found it works better than other cleaners I've tried. I did like the SU cleaner but I went through it way to fast.

I always shop the clearance section, you never know what you may find.

I found some ivory brads really cheap a while ago. I get the ivory off them using my Chizel It tool (grinds it off) and then using alcohol inks to color them.

When cutting out stamps I save some of the rubber to make odd shapes or dashes. Sometimes you just need a dash and they don't come in stamp sets.

That's all I can think of right now. Awesome thread.

Default I use!

I use Simple Green and water in a spray bottle 20% simple Green and 80% water.
And I have a old Terry cloth from somewhere that I use as my stamp in scrub.

I too use my Hip hardware stamp set and embossing powder. Then add Brads to finish the look.

I save Gum tin's Coffee Tin'suse for later stamping projects.

Drywall tape from the hardware store.

I get 5 FREE Sheet of Cardstock from Archviers That make at least 10 cards..

I use coupon to purchase other items from there as well.

Save insert from my CD cases to wrap Fiber around or Ribbon.

Save Plastic boxes for storing my marker's and pens in (they lay flat)

I save found objects to use in stamping embellishments. or backgrounds.
