I've seen some great things done with bleach but just had a question or two before i dive in.
Does the bleach affect the stamp at all? I'm wondering if it would make the rubber deteriorate over time. Also, has anyone tried it with clear acrylic stamps - if so, how does it affect these?
I have stamped with bleach and just make sure to clean the stamp right after use. I ran the whole stamp wood and all under warm water and then cleaned it with su cleaner to help condition the stamp. If you do not clean it right away. yes..the rubber will get hard. When Stamping I used a styrofoam plate and paper towel as my pad and used only a small amount of bleach and scratch paper to dab of the access. and lightly stamp the image numerous times. You can get 8 or so good images out of 1 time with the bleach. You have to work fast and be in a well ventilated area or your going to get wosy.. Just practice and don't get discouraged it does take practice.
here is an example from years agao the I did. I also made bleached paper on black so i could use it as a backgound. I used my brayer and made sure to clean it right away. also you can use you heat gun to dry the bleach faster after stampin the image. The longer the bleach sets the more it is going to bleach and sometimes it is to much..
I have stamped with bleach, but I NEVER allow the bleach to remain on the rubber for long. In fact, I clean the stamp immediately after EACH impression because I was always afraid of the bleach harming the rubber.
I've done the same with clear stamps as well and so far have found no problem with damage to stamps.
I 've heard that some people ink their stamp with versamark first, then use the bleach - the thinking was that the versamark will provide a little barrier between the bleach and the stamp. However this is an extra step and you would definately want to clean your stamp to remove the bleach before you press the stamp in versamark again.
I've done bleaching for years and it never ruined any of my stamps. Just clean them just like you would after using ink. They will be fine. Rubber will be here long after all of us are gone. LOL!
Side note: I found a box of rubber stamps in my grandfather stuff that were a million years old. Just to prove to myself that you can't kill rubber, I tried them. They work every bit as well as if they were new and they had never been cleaned! LOL!
