Default Stampers Sampler and Take Ten are ending!

FYI to others who are fans of these wonderful stamping publications - both are ceasing publication! The next issue of Stampers Sampler (Jul-Aug-Sep) will be the last. I am not sure but I don't think there will be another Take Ten, unless maybe just one more.
I always renew my subscription in May and when I could not find the mag. under the subscription options I phoned. The decision was very recent and the lady said "quite a few" magazines are going away.

She said they are still deciding what to do in the future - e.g., offer a digital only version, create a new publication for stamps and cards and whatever...
For me, it is the end of another era...the only stamping magazine left that I really like is Rubber Stamp Madness which has an ENTIRELY different vibe from the Stampington publications.

I used to subscribe to Stampers' Sampler several years ago, but the style just wasn't me. I LOVED their scrapbooking magazine Memories and still look at all my issues. Bella Grace is a beautiful publication of theirs that I enjoy. It has journaling prompts in it that I find useful in scrapbooking. Stampington always has such high quality publications.

Very sad to hear this. My reading rooms (other people call them bathrooms) usually have several issues each. I actually enjoy looking at older magazines because I get something new out of it each time.

I might not be as quick you downsize my mountain of magazines into a hill.

I am a little sad to hear this because I did always like to page through them, but honestly, they were just too expensive for me.

Of course they were quarterly rather than monthly and as well as that I think the cover price was higher because there was very, very little advertising in them. Personally, I liked that and interestingly, many magazines with the other business model (sell lots of advertising space, lower cover price) seem to have ceased publication sooner!

They were also printed on gorgeous, high-quality paper. I loved the thick, smooth feel and that it had a matte finish.

I wish there would be a stamping exchange for magazines and/or catalogs. Like a library of sorts but just read them and then bring them back! I used to find a lot of crafting magazines and even some Stampin Up catalogs at the thrift stores I haunt. What a treasure trove of ideas for a small price. I didn't mind donating a few dollars or even cents to get them.

Unfortunately, it's been quite awhile since I found those treasures, my sources have dried up, it seems.

This makes me sad. I always wanted to have a card in Take Ten, but never submitted anything. While, the cost of them was too much for my limited retirement income, I used to often be able to pick them up very reasonably on e-bay. I will miss both of these.

I love the artsiness of both magazines. I could always pull something from them to use on a card. Just interesting reading.

This is one of those NOOOOOOOOOOO! moments. I will miss these publications so much. Bought them all the time. I love magazines and when I hear another one is shutting down it is like a knife. I heard Brides is shutting down after 70 years. I used that one for crafting all the time too. This is a sucky month for magazine closures. I am sorry to all who worked so hard on Take Ten and Stamper's Sampler. I hope your new journey is beautiful and rewarding. Thank you for all the years you gave us.

Our pool of magazines is getting smaller and smaller. There's just something about holding a magazine and perusing thru the pages. I usually loved/bought a Take Ten but Stamper's Sampler was hit or miss (sometimes too artsy for me.) I loved the quality they put into their magazines.

On a positive note, it seems that there's a lot of magazines coming in from the U.K. and a lot of them come with free gifts (dies, stamps, papers, etc.) I've bought several of them the past couple of years. The downsides are that the measurements are different so I have to adjust, sometimes you don't get the free gift (bag/gift is missing), or sometimes the cards call for something from a previous issue, which you may have missed. Also, a couple of years ago a friend wanted to subscribe to one or two of them and had some issues but I can't recall what they were. I can't remember if it had something to do with the currency exchange or postage or something else.

There is a magazine from Canada called Creative Scrapbooker that seems to be growing. I love it - it is a great mix of artsy and simple with technique articles and photography tips. They do feature cards in their magazine, too. It comes out quarterly and the Summer 2018 issue was just released a few days ago. Barnes and Noble and Joann's has it, plus subscriptions are available.

I subscribed to this one last year at a booth at Scrapbook Expo. I am not renewing because it is very expensive and all the samples look the same to me, mixed media and artsy which is the polar opposite of my cleaner, more graphic style. I recommend buying one issue before signing up.

This is sad news. Take Ten was the last of the magazines I would make a point of getting/looking at....though I must admit that I havenít purchased a single one for at least 2 years.
Take Ten is the only publication I submitted cards to for publication and it was an honor and surprise to have the complimentary issue arrive in the mail. I still remember the over-the-moon rush of excitement I would experience when I would spot the special issue arrive in the mail. I was just looking over my extensive Take Ten collection a couple of days ago, trying to decide if I should part with any of the issue. Nope, not gonna do it!!! They are a wonderful reminder of happy days spent making cards & preparing them for mailing. It got me in the habit of making card recipe notes and I am thankful for that, as well.
Iím certain that the ready availability of card ideas through the internet and Pinterest in Particular has had a growing negative impact on hard copy publications. Having the ability to see an unlimited amount of cards from around the world with a few keystrokes on my iPad has definitely enhanced my voracious appetite for studying card designs.
Farewell, Take Ten and thank you for adding so much joy and excitement to my stamping experience!

This is sad, indeed. It's been years since I read either publication but in my early stamping days, I'd pick them up every time I went to one of the big box craft stores. I'm guessing that many have done the same, thus contributing to their demise.

They were beautiful magazines, but were almost unobtainable in Australia, and expensive to get from the US. I got a few second hand ones at a craft show. I hope their other magazines keep going.
And they messed up their implementation of digital magazines. I would have been happy to buy them as pdfs or through one of the established magazine platforms, but no, they had to use a special format that did not work on tablets for years, and now they have a format that works on tablets, but it still requires installing a special app.

It is the end of an era. I think many of us stopped buying the print magazines -- they were expensive, and you could find so much inspiration online, for free. And targeted to your specific taste, too. Sad to see them go in a way, but I won't really miss them because I haven't bout one for years.

This news saddens me. I work for a magazine publisher (of hobby magazines, not crafting though) and I still love the printed page and have subscriptions to print magazines.

Oh, so sorry to read this. I loved the S.S. Apr/May/June issue. I did not always buy S.S. but generally always bought Take Ten. I always thought it would be fun to get published in it at some point. Now, that is not to be. I loved reading about the featured stamper and their thoughts on this hobby in the issues too.

I am wondering if this has happened to Cardmaker, as I have been looking for it and not seeing it lately.

Shirt, Cardmaker magazine closed last Fall ... or at least I believe that's when it ceased publications.

It is a shame, indeed. But, I have to admit that I don’t buy them anymore. When I started stamping with Stampin Up, I had no ideas of my own. I would stand in the store looking through the magazines. If they had cards that cited Stampin Up, I would buy the issue. I subscribed to Paper Crafts magazine for a few years. But, I recently decided that those piles of magazines were something I could get rid of in my overcrowded house. Wish I had known a Goodwill store might take them. They just went in the recycle bin.

I was never into those. Just didn't care for them and the price.

At one time I had cleaned out old magazines, now I hoard them and have a small bookshelf full. I MUCH prefer paper over electronic.

Occasionally I do a splurge on the pricey UK mags - as long as I like the 'gift' enough. Typically if it's $13 as some are even higher.

They were typically not my favorite publications. Too many vintage birds and babies wearing crowns and other odd assorted images. I used to like the featured stamper, though. Still, sad to see another print magazine go.

My favorite publication was Cards magazine, by Northridge Publishing. Beautiful photography, with most cards in the Clean and Simple category. Back when Archivers was still in business, I used to pick this one up all the time.

I agree...so many great ideas for free on sites and Pinterest. I'm trying to cut out a lot of magazine subscriptions and purchases now. They just clutter up my house.

Hereís an email I got from the editor: Unfortunately, at least for now, Take Ten and The Stampers' Sampler will be on hold. Meaning we will not be producing new issues any time soon, however, it is extremely difficult for us as well as our publisher Kellene to let these cards magazines go seeing as the Stampers' Sampler was our first publication! For now, we will be focusing we will be focusing on some of our other great publications and we will revisit the possibility of restarting the card magazines in the future!
