Good Morning Ladies. We will be heading to Raleigh NC in two weeks for my husbands softball tournament and will be in that area for 3-4 days. Hoping that there is some GOOD shopping in that area. Can you tell me names or locations so I can look them up and map out "my tournament" while he is playing. Thanks for the help!!
I haven't been to any of these, but both my stepsons live down that way now and I hope to explore the next time I'm down there. I'm interested in what others can contribute to this thread.

I live in Raleigh. Your best bet around here is Archiver's. They have it all.
Panopolie has a little (very little!) papercrafting stuff (and is close to Archiver's), but they mostly have beading materials. I didn't see anything there that Archiver's didn't have. The other local scrapbook and stamping stores have all closed. Scrapbook Plaza has not been there for a while, and Carolina Memories (in Durham) closed just after Christmas. Paper Playground (in Apex) also closed a while back, but still do online orders and a kit club.
Of course, we have several Michael's stores and AC Moore. If you don't have a good JoAnn's near you, the one at Cary's Crossroads Plaza is really nice.
Oh, yeah... if you're looking to fill time while your hubby is playing ball, you can just take your stuff to Archiver's and camp out there and work. You can use their work space during the day for free. You can also use their die cut machines and (and other tools) for free if you buy your paper from them. They have great paper! Triangle Towne Center mall (where Archiver's is located) is a great place to hang out for the day ... or 4!
If you want to take a 1.5 hour trip - head towards Winston Salem (lewisville) to The Enchanted Cottage. Better yet, have your DH drop you off there and spend the day!
I second the vote for Archivers. If you haven't been to one it is a great place to visit. You might want to look at their list of classes and see if there are any listed for the dates you will be in town. I've taken some of their classes and they are great! Some of the classes are free and some are a small fee. You do need to sign up ahead of time so call them if you see something you might be interested in.
My only complaint with Archiver's is that they don't have shopping carts, just those little baskets you can carry. I find this cumbersome trying to carry the basket and my purse and look at all of the merchandise. What I do now is take some items to the counter and ask them to hold them for me so I can continue to shop. They have a little sign that they will put with you things that says to hold for customer while shopping. I just keep adding to my pile on the counter. It is especially good for paper so that it doesn't get creased.
Have a great visit in Raleigh. I've lived here for 4 years and love it!
Thanks to all of you for the information. I will be checking Archivers and Artists' Oasis for sure, and want to stop in AC Moore since we don't have them here in Ohio. I was hoping for same LSS but they seem to be dying off everywhere. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some on the way down and home. Always have my eyes open for a shopping experience!!!!
Oh, no! I won't be wearing a SCS shirt! When I'm there, I'm incognito. I'm usually supposed to be doing something else -- cleaning the house, cooking supper, buying groceries. Visiting Archivers is a guilty pleasure. Having people recognize me would be just terrible!
Honestly, I do forget so often that everyone in there is probably just like me!
Amy (wondering when I can sneak away and use my latest Archivers coupons...)
Waldsbe651-if you are driving from Ohio and you are going through Winston-Salem, you MUST make time to stop at Enchanted Cottage! We go to the beach 2x/yr, and that is our "halfway" stop! If you are driving from there on 40 East, you will go through Greensboro-there is a stamping/scrapbook store there that has the complete line of InqueBOutique stamps...and lots of paper, etc. Can't think of the name off the top of my head, but if you do a google search, it will come up-its only a few minutes off the interstate.
Have fun! :-) I love the triangle and the triad! (wonderful Farmer's markets!)
Go Bucks!! Glad to see another buckeye lover. Our daughter (went to school with Chris 'Beanie' Wells) starts there this fall and so excited about it. Thanks so much for the info. We are going that way and I am going to get all my info together and map out our trip. I knew someone would be able to provide me with some good shopping. Thanks so much.
Scrapbook Plaza, Raindrops on Roses, and Carolina Memories are all closed. Artist Oasis is the only one, other than Archiver's, Michaels, and AC Moore, that is left. Never been there but I've heard good things about it.
I wonder how many of us have been in Archivers at the same time? We should all wear SCS teeshirts to spot each other!
I'll be in there tomorrow. And probably on Saturday. And then again on Sunday maybe. And I'll be hittin' up Michael's, ACMoore and Joann.... Hubby's going on a camping trip this weekend, so really, seriously, what's a gal to do other than shop and stamp?

I have times when I can't seem to find anything to buy but that's mostly b/c certain things are just totally over-priced for what they are. Sadly for my wallet, I have more times where I do buy something though verses not buying!
I had a chat with the owner of Artist Oasis. I've never been there but had called looking for something specific. She told me that this Saturday is Christmas in July. There will be a make 'n take every hour along with some great specials.

I guess Artists Oasis has a new owner now and they are cutting back their hours. It isn't looking good. I hope they don't close too!

Thanks, Thanks and Thanks! Getting all my addresses and phone numbers together and planning a map to each place. I do have one question, What is the 'triangle' and 'triad' as the Farmers Markets sound like fun? I'm on a mission to make this a mini vacation for me also - not just sitting on the bleachers for 4 days. ha ha ha
The "triad" consists of Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Highpoint. The "triangle" is Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. There is a great Farmers' Market right off of 40 as you are entering the Greensboro area. Fun garden center store there, along with all the local vendors. The farmers' market in Raleigh is fabulous, too. THere is a wonderful "antique" store on the premises full of great antiques and reproductions for the house and yard. We went to a flea market that was on the state fairgrounds, I think, and it was fun to walk around-lots of different vendors if you like that sort of thing.
Its going to be HOT and HUMID, but so is the weather in OH right now!
Have fun! :-)
