Spring Color "forecast"
I've always thought that it was a bit presumptuous of Pantone to "forecast" the "popular colors" for the coming season. In reality, I think they are the ones to SET the "popular colors" by issuing their "forecast" in plenty of time for everyone to fall in line.
Regardless, this is the spring "forecast". It'll be interesting to see what comes out this spring.
Cayenne
Celosia Orange
Freesia
Hemlock
Comfrey
Placid Blue
Dazzling Blue
Violet Tulip
Purple Haze
Radiant Orchid
Magenta Purple
Paloma
Sand
If you kept Marvelous Magenta and Orchid Opulence from years ago, they'll be right in style!

Thanks for posting that chart, Diane.
Interesting to ponder who is doing the "setting." The fashion industry has already been showing their Spring lines for weeks, so I tend to think that Pantone gleans its info from the design community and distills it into a pallet that summarizes what they are seeing.
Here's something on that "Dazzling Blue"
Dazzling Blue | The Pantone Color for Spring 2014 on the Runways
Not a color I'm personally eager to wear. But a nice color for card stock or ink.

That is a gorgeous color! I can wear that color and do love it as well as love it for cardstock and ink. Funny there are few blues I'm attracted to, but that is definitely one of the few!
Now I'm excited for spring
thanks for sharing!

in the 80's we called it royal blue and I had a business suit of this color I believe it had shoulder pads and everything. I went on an interview in it and the interviewer said "oh you wore IBM blue"

I know it as cobalt blue and it looks dreadful on me. You must have lovely coloring, Kathy.
If anyone has seen the movie The Devil Wears Prada, you will remember Meryl Streep's character (which was supposedly based on Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour) giving the Ann Hathaway character a lecture about fashion's "trickle down" effect, and it was that blue she was using as an example.

Marvelous Magenta is my all time favorite color. I still have the marker, ink, and refill. I only have "less than a piece of paper" left! I hope SU brings it back.

I'm happy to see light and middle tones of the same color. Last year it seemed that every thing Pantone said was hot was a middle tone, no lights or darks. I wonder which one or two from that palette will be taking over fashion and home deck and crafting in the next few months.

I decided to check out how the whole thing works with Pantone. Here's some interesting articles:
The Business Of Color: Pantone Sets Fashion Trends : NPR
Pantone color forecasts: Are they accurate?
Meet The Secret Powerbroker Who Decides The colour Of The Year | Business Insider
It seems that they watch the world for trends in one color...that becomes their color of the year, but then their secret committee meets twice a year, works with a previously defined theme and the color of the year and decides on a color scheme that will be "in". They aren't the only company doing this, but they are definitely the major one.
However, even when they "reveal" their process, like they do in these and other articles, they seem to skate around the whole issue a bit!
It's interesting.

Does anyone want to make a stab at what colors might make it into Stampin' Up!'s In Colors for 2014-2015?
I'll make one...
I think we'll see a Dazzling Blue color. We don't have anything like it, and Brilliant Blue has been gone for a while. Dazzling Blue is brighter (less black added to the tint), and would make a great addition.

We were discussing color at one of my demo's workshops this summer and we all agreed that SU needs a rich, jewel tone purple. I have no clue what they'll come up with next year, but I agree that there will probably be a blue of some kind. They had so many blues several years ago and cut way back on them.

Yes, give us a better purple! A jewled one would be lovely.
I miss Lavendar Lace and Lovely Lilac as current colors and will still use them as long as I can with my stash.
A dazzling blue would be good, too.

I still love Marv Magenta, Orchid Opp., Lovely Lilac, and Morning Marigold & Summer sun. Even though I do like the SU new colors, when springs comes around I do miss having clear bright colors.

Love that blue!! In 1962 my mom had a very attractive cocktail dress in that very bright blue!! We loved it...........let's see, I think that is about 51 years. I'm pretty sure it has been back at some time in between, must not have been paying attention!! Would be interesting to know if the cart comes before the horse or vice versa tho. Some of the really grungy colors showing up right now, in house wares, etc., are never going to be MY faves. Floral Stamper

I'll take the plum that Sherwin Williams chose.
The Radiant Orchid is a bit much for me! Maybe as a SLIGHT accent...with lots of other colors/neutrals to tone it down...
I remember that LateBlossom (Susan) REALLY hated Orchid Opulence.

My mom had a dress that color too, around the same time. I LOVED that dress because of the color, and remember standing in her closet just to admire it.
I have always loved color, and I think that's a common trait for "our kind" - paper crafters, artists, etc. I have my cardstocks arranged ROYGBIV, and it gives me a happy just looking at that rainbow.

Back in the mid 80's I had a blouse that color that I wore with winter white pants - felt like a million bucks whenever I wore that outfit. Felt like I was 5'4" (I'm 5 ft!). LOL

Oh well. It's not really a flattering color on me so I probably won't be running out and adding tons of items to my wardrobe. That's probably good, given the amount of Cobalt and Emerald items I've purchased recently.
I do like purples, so I'm hoping this means SU will finally give us another purple.

I love hearing about people's memories associated with color. It's such an emotional, gut-based thing for us artsy types. I just added "middle school art teacher" to my resume this past year and I am SO enjoying fostering that in the kids. They just soak it up. Color is so important.

I love all the 1980's stories. I was an 80's teen. I didn't wear those colors. I wore hot pink and light blue a lot. Sometimes I wore it together, lol.
I think the colors are so pretty this year from Pantone. I am thrilled about Orchid Opulence. I just bought bathroom paint that color a couple of months ago. I am trendy before it started, lol.
I am laughing about the colors too because they are very eighties but the fashion trends this year are probably going to be the nineties. We can all wear Dazzling Blue baby doll dresses and Celosia Orange combat boots. !
Stampin Up in colors I would love a rich jewel purple and red.
