Question Sponging - Felt Pad or Sponge

Could someone help me understand the diff between the two and why you would choose one over the other?

I've seen each used many times (use sponges myself), but is there a time/technique that you would lead you to choose one over the other, or is it just a matter of personal preference? Do you get different results with them (something you don't have to be an expert to see)? Why do you personally choose one tool over the other?

Foam is usually used for sponging, and felt is used for applying alcohol ink.

I have never used a felt pad for inking. I get good coverage with sponging and I can control the coverage well, if I want a little or a lot.

I use the felt pads with the bottled alcohol ink not the ink pads. Put a few drops of different colored ink on the pad add some blending solution and add to glossy card stock. Make a beautiful background as long as you cover the c/s but not overdo because it can become muddy.

Use the sponge pads when coloring direct from the ink pad.

Use both the felt and foam pads but for different coloring techniques. These are techniques I learned by watching Tim Holtz tutorials.
