SPLITCOAST NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
We *love* that our members share their artwork with each other! Thanks to our members, we have *the* best art-stamping gallery on the web, hands-down!!!
Here's where we need your help:
We have noticed a dramatic increase in gallery uploads that have no details or information about a project, but instead, a directive to viewers to visit a blog in order to obtain that information.
Our galleries are available for use completely free of charge to every member here at the SCS community.
Please, when you upload a project, include basic recipe information for all of our members.
You may accompany that information with a simple, non-promotional link to your blog.
If you'd like to increase exposure to your blog or website, please consider purchasing an ad, as per Daven's homepage discussion:
Quote: Originally Posted by splitcoaststampers . . . Promotional posts

There are lots of people here, and promoting your "thing" to a large audience can look mighty attractive, especially when all it takes is a quick forum posting to generate traffic to your site.
It's a little hard to quantify "promotional postings" in a single, all-encompassing definition, so I won't try. Instead I'd like to encourage you to follow this principle: if exposure for a site benefits you personally and you'd like us to know about it, consider placing an ad instead of posting in the forums. Splitcoast advertising is cheap, gets you far better exposure than a forum post, and leaves no one wondering about your motivations for posting that commercial message . . . |
This doesn't merely apply to the SCS Forums, but the SCS Galleries as well!!!
EDITED: We would greatly appreciate members including basic recipe info, which may be accompanied by a simple link, as opposed to only listing explicit directives that require our members to visit blogs in order to obtain any details about your project.
Thank you for supporting the Splitcoaststampers community!

Well said Julie!!
One question - I *on occasion* include a link to my blog w/ *some* of my gallery uploads (and it's always a link to the specific post where I explain in detail - not just to my blog in general - and mostly when it's a technique heavy card or I did a LOT on it YKWIM??) but I **ALWAYS** fill out all the set/CS/ink etc info so that no one HAS to visit!! Is that OK??

Thank you. I have been frustrated lately about not getting that much needed recipe on cards in the gallery. I'm glad you guys have addressed this issue.

So it's okay to include a link to your blog as long as you are filling out the recipe in your gallery?? That's what I've been doing....

I so appreciate this too. I also have been frustrated seeing so many cute cards in the Gallery with absolutely no recipe information. Thanks Julie! LM

I have noticed posts where a SCS member who has a blog will say, "I just posted a tutorial on ____________, here is a link to my blog if you are interested. I always appreciate those posts, are they allowed?

All we ask is that you supply at least basic recipe information, and that the link to a blog be strictly a link, without any promotional language accompanying it, just as we do forum signature lines.
Any gallery upload that excludes basic recipe information, and, in lieu of that, issues a directive to visit a blog in order to obtain it, can easily be misconstrued as promotional in nature by viewers.

Any gallery upload that excludes basic recipe information, and, in lieu of that, issues a directive to visit a blog in order to obtain it, is considered promotional by the Splitcoast Team, and Moderators. Moderators have been instructed to remove such directives as they come across them in the galleries. |
For clarification, are you just removing the offending language and letting the card upload without any recipe information?
If so, can the uploader edit the information to add the recipe later?

Something to keep in mind - gallery photos are often viewed months or even more than a year after they are initially uploaded. Blog info may or may not still be available at that time.
Julie - thanks so much!!!!

We deal with such postings and determine their promotional nature on a case by case basis, as we come across them here in the forums; please refer to my OP, which pretty much covers the issue of "promotional" postings.
I think a lot of confusion about what is promotional and what is not stems from people not fully understanding what the term "personally benefits" means.
"Personally benefits" is defined by a number of things including:
- Monetary/financial (by products being sold)
- Increased traffic to a site you own
- Increased exposure (if you are an industry professional)
Industry professionals are: Retail store/web store owners, direct sales representatives, designers, manufacturers, etc.
SCS permits two simple links in forum signatures, as per the TOS, see excerpt below:
Quote: Advertising/Solicitation
- You may not advertise your company, product or site in our forums or solicit customers. This includes but is not limited to your own specials, sales, open houses, stamp camps, products you sell on your website, etc.
- Posts that are promotional in nature or contain commercial solicitations may be deleted by one of the administrators or moderators.
- Posts that are informational in nature regarding a company or it's products are permitted.
- Signatures may contain a maximum of 2 links to business or commercial sites as long as no promotional language accompanies the link. Referral links are not allowed.
- Should you wish to advertise on our site, you may contact Daven Nolta at [email protected] for rates and availability.
|
In accordance with the TOS, if you are an industry professional in some capacity, and you'd like to increase traffic/exposure to your blog/website and whatever it may be that you have to offer there, please support SCS by purchasing an ad, rather than using forum postings.

Julie, I want to apologize--didn't mean to offend. I'm just stretched so tightly for time with even keeping up with a blog that I run out of time to put recipes. I was trying to save time by linking to that info that I had already babbled about extensively somewhere else. Just to clarify, I have NO self-promotional agenda going on here since I am paying for my own blog and currently have no ads or tip set up at all. But I promise not to upload any more here unless I have time to fill in the fields. I will delete my posts that link ASAP. I have a house full of company right now.
Again, I apologize!

That's a good point Jami. I've noticed that when doing a search for a particular card. I like seeing the directions and materials used for making the card in the gallery. I also love seeing the blogs, so a link within the directions is a nice thing too!

Oh no! I have some in my faves. Can you edit instead of delete?
How I save time is that I upload to SCS first. Then I copy and paste it to my blog. I don't see why it couldn't be done in reverse, too.

Debbie,
Don't delete your beautiful art! Ughhh! No!!!! Leave it until you have time to go back in and fill the rest in. We know you aren't doing anything wrong.
Good info to know. I think it's so much easier for people who are looking in the gallery to get the recipe right there. I don't upload nearly as much as I should because I don't always have time to do it here and on my blog and I don't want to skimp here.
I would imagine that if you find a card your love, it can be frustrating not to have the info you need right there.
Thanks for this post, Julie. I think the tone of this is friendly and informative, as usual. We all make mistakes. Heaven knows I have be an offender in the past. (Not meaning to be, just not paying close enough attention.) BTW, Julie, can you direct us to where we purchase the advertising. I would like to buy a spot.
Thanks!
Gina K.

We don't want anyone deleting their galleries or photos, and it's not urgent. You enjoy Thanksgiving and get to it whenever is convenient. We won't be deleting anything except for maybe the promotional lingo with a link to a blog. Thanks for your help eveyone!!
