Default Spectrum Noir Markers

I am really missing the Blendabilities from Stampin Up. I hate the thought of the investment of the Copics. I heard about the Spectrum Noir Markers, can anyone give me any opinions on these markers? Thanks in advance.

Consumer Crafts has a 3 day sale on them - a 6 pack for $5!!!! This would be a great opportunity to check them out. I have several, and use them with my Copics - I would say that generally the colors are more intense than the Copics. But the sale is a great deal.

Yes, that is the sale I saw! I'm trying not to spend this summer, but I just keep getting tempted!

That price was just too good to pass up. If they aren't for me, I can hand them off and won't feel bad about the money spent. Thanks for enabling me!

If money were no object I would buy copics, but spectrums are a good alternative. I have all the sets that acmoore sells. There prices are $7.88 a set and I don't think you can use a regular coupon on them because that's a special buy price.

Ok, I just took the plunge! They also have a good price on the green mono glue and self sealing bags since I sell some of my cards! No shipping on this order! Okay, now I'm really done buying for the summer!

I just ordered a few sets also. You cannot beat the price!

I got some of the Spectrum Noir markers a few years ago, and I liked them, but they seemed to dry out pretty quickly. The markers I got at Joanns which dried out had a square cap. I did find a tip from Frugal Crafter to refresh the dried out ones using denatured alcohol which I picked up at Walmart.

The newer models have a round cap, and I've had no trouble with them drying out.

I have the old square caps. If you put the caps on well there's usually not a problem. But if they do dry, I have removed the nibs and added alcohol. The round caps are definitely the newer ones and should be good!

Yes, Kathy, I have some of the new round cap markers, and they do seem to work better, and don't dry out like the older ones. I had several of the old square ones that were dry right out of the package. I tossed them before I found you could revitalize them with alcohol.

That's why I'm such a hoarder. I always seem to regret it when I throw something out, lol.

I heard of someone who threw out their wink of Stella brush pen because it didn't work, then they found out you have to take off the black ring!

I just gave away all my first generation Spectrum Noir markers to a friend. I had everybsingle one. Some of them were dry and I didnt want to waste time with them. My friend refreshed them all with denatured alcohol and they are good as new. I just purchased all available sets most for only 5.00 per set at Consumer Crafts. Since they work with Copics I dont feel bad at these prices re purchasing them. I hope they are second generation.

Does anyone know if Spectrum plays well with Tombow?

Tombow is water-based and Spectrum is alcohol-based, so my guess is that they might do certain things together alright, but they are going to behave very differently and you could get some unexpected (weird) results. I probably wouldn't mix them, personally, but it might be worth experimenting...

Oh right! Duh! Thanks Sue. (slapping forehead) I am so simple, I tend to just think "blendable"-in fact that's how my storage box is labeled. I need to change that.

So maybe I DO want to grab some of those markers! hmmm

I can't get a good look blending alcohol and watercolor on the image so I stick to one or the other. But I like having the option of using either. Plus I have a ton of prisma pencils and gamsol. And then I bought some gansai tambi watercolors that are wonderful too (thanks amber)!

I'm pretty sure they are the new model, Amber. They have round caps. I had previously ordered several sets from Consumer Crafts on sale awhile back, and they were the new ones. I just now ordered 5 more sets to fill in colors I didn't have.

Other than the 1st generation markers drying out quickly, they are still good right?? I have all the 6 pack colors. I hope that is the only thing. I really like them and they are so affordable. I have been thinking about getting the other big packs.

Yes, if you havent used them much and they dry out they still have the colored ink inside that can be refreshed by putting some alcohol in them. I use tweezers and pull off the chisel end and drop some alcohol inside them. If you used them a lot and they dry out, you can buy reinkers for them. I have reinkers for the ones I use the most.

I wish the Spectrum Noir markers had more of the lighter shades. They have so many very dark colors and I find I tend use the light ones more. A lot of darker ones are so dark, you cannot see the difference between the colors and they are too dark to blend.

I have this set of 24 colors called "Lights." They are pale colors and I use them a lot with other markers. I have not seen them in the stores, just online.

I, too, bought all of the Spectrum Noir markers...older style with square caps...and had trouble with dried out pens right out of the packaging. I was disappointed with them; thought the colors seemed dark. I do much better with pencils and havn't taken the time needed to perfect my technique.
