Can anyone tell me how to use these pads?

You can push the colors together and ink a stamp in multiple colors (works great for leaves). You can also pull the colors apart, ink up a brayer and make a beautiful background on glossy white cardstock. This same technique is often used on ghosting AKA versamark resist.

You can also ink up your paper directly with the pad, with the colours pushed together or apart. You'll get little rectangles of colour.
BTW, you want to store your pad with the colours separated.
