Default Something kind of sad on ebay..........

I saw a fake Stampin' Up Wonderland set yesterday.......it had pulled up when I entered Stampin' Up It is an exact copy but done in some kind of clear material.........maybe not even photopolymer but acrylic. They are selling a couple pieces of DSP that are Stampin' Up so that they are qualified to use the name. I looked at their other items for sale and there are several sets done the same way......total rip offs. I checked their feedback and could see where they had sold other Wonderland sets too. It's bad enough when people buy multiple sets to sell at inflated prices but now this......sad, sad, sad.

The one I saw doesn't say it is a SU stamp=-it says unbranded but that you get SU dsp or other brands as a bonus.

Its a case of buyer beware. Many people won't read all the info. They just want the set for a lot less money. Let's face it-some ebay sellers want crazy prices for retired sets and some buyers don't care about copyright infringement because they want the stamp set.

I went and took a look. Found a seller that is selling clear and die sets of Stampin Up designs stating unbranded for $30 plus dollars. And another seller that in their description states US based but if you read the description the wording is off like trying to translate to english language.

Sad.....

But I no longer use ebay. Two months ago I went to log in to do some searching, and possibly buying. I could not log in. Stated email address and password where incorrect. I called ebay and the said they had no record of me. I ask why am I still receiving updated privacy emails and how can the loss my account that was opened since 2001?

They could not give me an answer, just told me to make a new account. I told them if they could loss my account and not reactivate said account I can no longer shop with them.

Seriously!!!

I don't think it's sad... I think it's despicable!

What baffles me on eBay is... the sellers in the USA who have genuine SU products for sale, in their DVD cases with the photopolymer or cling sets BUT ARE ALSO selling the knock offs. I get how it's hard to go after companies that sell knock offs in other countries, but how do people get away with it selling these knock off in the US? And because they have both products, the genuine and the counterfeit, it makes me think they are buyers themselves who maybe don't know better... but wouldn't it still be illegal?

Sure, but it takes someone with time and money to go after violator - like having an attorney write a cease and desist letter, and if necessary take them to court. It’s not as if there are trademark police.

One small craft company has two full-time employees who scan for copies. The owner said that Amazon is good about removing shops that are selling knock-offs, but the companies pop back up under different names. (Most of those are Chinese though.)

And it takes deep pockets to go to court. The ScorPal was copied and changed a bit by a large company. ScorPal took them to court but the large company had deeper pockets and ScorPal couldn’t afford to keep pursuing the suit.

As a bystander it can be interesting. Company A has trademarked items copied by B, and then B has theirs copied by C...

A few months ago I bought dies from China that were a SU knockoff. They worked just fine, so I ordered a set of generic pine branches. Those didn’t cut worth a darn and went in the garbage. I learned my lesson. I will now only buy stamps and dies from reputable ompanies. I will spend more but the items will work, and no guilt on my part.
